  • $H_2SO_4$ and citric acid had higher extraction efficiency of $^{137}Cs$ from soil than the other chemicals. Thus, $H_2SO_4$and citric acid were used as additives on remediation experiment by electrokinetic method to increase removal efficiency of $^{137}Cs$ from the radioactive soil being stored during a long time. An average velocity of effluent discharged from experimental column $2.0{\times}10^{-2}$/cm/min and a volume of the discharged soil wastewater for 10 days is 3.6 Pore Volume. The 54% of a total of $^{137}Cs$ in the column was decontaminated for 10 days. Furthermore, the predicted values of residual concentration by the developed model were quite similar to those obtained from experiments.

  • An essential fact in the regeneration of new periodontal tissue after periodontal therapy is the reattachment of collagen fibers to the tooth. Two phenomena play a fundamental role in preventing new connective tissue attachment to the exposed root surface ; 1) The apical migration of the junctional epithelium 2) The contamination of cementum by toxic substances, especially endotoxins. Authors have used rat submucosal implantation of root sections to study the connective tissue healing to periodontally diseaed root, previously planed and demineralized with citric acid and tetracycline- HCl. The results were obtained as follows. 1. The connective tissue attachment was increased in tetracycline, citric acid, non disease, scaling and root planing order and inflammatory reaction was seen in the rat teeth, no treatment group. 2. Collagen fiber attachment at the dentin surface was more increased than cementum surface 3. In 2 week of citric acid and tetracycline-HCl specimens, osteoid was seen near the fibrotic band. 4. In the MT view, collagen fiber formation was increased with time and the numerous collagen fiber and connective tissue was more densly attached to the tooth surfaces in the tetracycline-HCl group than the citric acid group.

  • Stable slurries of YSZ in aqueous suspension with added polymer dispersants, namely, poly-methacrylic acid ammonium salt (PMMA), poly-acrylic acid (PAA) and poly-acrylic-co-maleic acid (PAMA), were mixed with the monomolecular dispersants citric acid and oxalic acid. The dispersion properties of the suspension were investigated using PSA, viscosity, sedimentation, and FT-IR. The polymer dispersants and monomolecular dispersants were attached to the YSZ surface by the carboxylic group, as shown by the FTIR results. A stabilized aqueous suspension was obtained when the polymer dispersant and citric acid were mixed and compared to the use of citric acid alone as a dispersant agent. When the polymer dispersant and citric acid were mixed and milled through attrition milling, there was a smaller particle size compared to when the polymer dispersant alone was used as a dispersant agent. This study determined that the particle size of the mixed dispersant was affected by the properties of the monomolecular dispersant and that the stability of the suspension was affected by the polymer dispersant. However, when slurries of YSZ were mixed with oxalic acid, the particle bridging behavior was the result of the high degree of viscosity and the small sedimentation height.

  • The effects of post-CMP cleaning on the chemical and galvanic corrosion of copper (Cu) and titanium (Ti) were studied in patterned silicon (Si) wafers. First, variation of the corrosion rate was investigated as a function of the concentration of citric acid that was included in both the CMP slurry and the post-CMP solution. The open circuit potential (OCP) of Cu decreased as the citric acid concentration increased. In contrast with Cu, the OCP of titanium (Ti) increased as this concentration increased. The gap in the OCP between Cu and Ti increased as citric acid concentration increased, which increased the galvanic corrosion rate between Cu and Ti. The corrosion rates of Cu showed a linear relationship with the concentrations of citric acid. Second, the effect of Triton X-$100^{(R)}$, a nonionic surfactant, in a post-CMP solution on the electrochemical characteristics of the specimens was also investigated. The OCP of Cu decreased as the surfactant concentration increased. In contrast with Cu, the OCP of Ti increased greatly as this concentration increased. Given that Triton X-$100^{(R)}$ changes its micelle structure according to its concentration in the solution, the corrosion rate of each concentration was tested.

  • Salted Chinese cabbage was washed in 1,000 ppm solutions of grapefruit seed extract(GFSE) or citric acid, and used to make kimchi for the retentio of quality characteristics during fermentation at $10^{\circ}C$. Kimchi treated with GFSE or citric acid showed a retarded increase in titratable acidity and decrease in pH and reducing sugar content. Total microbial count and lactic acid bacteria of GFSE treated kimchi were about 1.1 log(CFU/g) lower than those of control and citric acid treated kimchi after making, but the difference was gradually reduced during fermentation.

  • This study was done to investigate the quality characteristics of salmon frame with citric acid pretreatment. Sliced salmon frame samples were cured in soy sauce, sugar, pepper, and sodium nitrate for 12 h and then dried at 3 h and then dried at $60^{\circ}C$ for 3 h. As the autoclaving at $130^{\circ}C$ for 15 min, the pH, moisture content, crude ash, crude fat, crude protein, acid value (AV), peroxide value (POV), volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), trimethylamine (TMA), total plate count and E. coli were measured at $4^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$ of storage days. The AV, POV, VBN, TMA and total plate count for all samples significantly increased as during storage days (p<0.05). All samples of storage, for autoclaving on salmon frame, there were no growth on E.coli. In the making of autoclaving on salmon frame, technologies for more safety from microbial growth should accompany pretreatment with citric acid.

  • In this study, we investigated a calcium phosphate-calcium sulfate injectable bone substitute (IBS) with organic reinforcement of chitosan, citric acid and hydroxypropyl-methyl-cellulose (HPMC). The powder component of IBS consisted of tetra calcium phosphate (TTCP), dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) and calcium sulfate dihydrate (CSD). The liquid component was a solution of citric acid and chitosan. The effect of HPMC in terms of setting time, compressive strength and apatite forming ability on this IBS was investigated. The mass content of HPMC in liquid phase was varied in array of 0%, 2%, 3% and 4%. The setting times obtained between 20 and 45 minutes. Compressive strength was achieved over 20 MPa after incubation at 370C and in 100% humidity for 28 days. Porosities were evaluated in relation with compressive strength. Elastic moduli of the 28 days after-incubation IBS were obtained around 4GPa

  • Effects of ascorbic acid and citric acid on pungency and color stabilities in the Horseradish powder during 16 weeks storage were investigated. When the ascorbic arid added 0.1 wt.%, the effect of allyl isothiocynate stability was very significant after 16 weeks storage at 37$^{\circ}C$. However, the effect of citric acid on the allyl isothiocyanate stability was not observed. The results also showed that ascorbic acid and citric arid did not affect the color stability of the Horseradish powder significantly. When the Horseradish powder was tempered with water, the effect of ascorbic acid on stability of allyl isothiocynate and color value was shown.

  • An extractive fermentation process was developed to produce citric acid from g1ucose. Citric acid is a strong inhibitor to this fermentation. A mixture of tertiary amine and oleyl alcohol was used to selectively extract citric acid from the fermentation broth, hence enhancing the productivity by over 200%. Although the toxicity of the solvent was significant in the range of higher than 30% of amine, immobilization in polyurethane foam was useful to protect the cells from the toxicity of the solvent.
