  • Development education started in some of developed countries of Europe since 1960s. Japan was interested in the development education with realizing the impotance of quality of life in the late of 1970s after high economical growth in 1960s. Just like Eroupe, development education in Japan was done to citizen by development NGOs. But under close cooperation with JICA and MOE, development education was gradually absorbed in formal education. Development education in Japan is done through interdisciplinary studies and the subjects. Geography national curriculum and textbooks in Japan show that the subject aimed to nurture Japanese in the world in the period from the late of 1960s to the late of 1970s. Thus the period can be named the sprouting time of education of development. But with entering the late of 1980s, geography national curriculum started to focus on fostering global citizenship to students. The turn in the educational aims can be counted as practical start of education of development. And education of development through geography was extended the most in the late of 1990s. But in the recent revised geography national curriculum, emphasis on education of development is reduced a little. It can be told that education of development in Japan arrives at the level of the full growth.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between masticatory ability, oral health-related quality of life, and cognitive function in an elderly population using structural equation modeling. Methods: A total of 308 subjects, aged 65 years and over, were recruited from the senior citizen center in Daegu, South Korea and provided consent for inclusion in the study. The Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE) was used to assess the level of cognitive function. Masticatory ability was evaluated through chewing tests, patient-perceived masticatory function and, measurement of relative occlusal forces on molar teeth using the T-Scan $III^{(R)}$ system. All data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$ tests, t-tests, and one-way ANOVA in SPSS version 23.0 for windows. Structural equation modeling was performed using SPSS AMOS version 22.0. Results: There was a significant association between cognitive function and molar teeth occlusal force. Ability of food chewing score and patient-perceived masticatory function could affect oral health-related quality of life (P>0.05). Higher occlusal forces on molar teeth, compared to anterior teeth, positively correlated with higher cognitive function. Conclusions: These results suggest that an individual's oral health condition could affect molar teeth occlusal forces and may be related to a risk of developing dementia. Therefore, there is a need for implementing nation-wide policies to improve oral health, such as masticatory function, in the elderly population.

  • This study shows that the Argovian Cantonal School in Aarau, Switzerland, which Albert Einstein attended from 1895 to 1896, had been closely related to the ideological education controversy in German Gymnasium throughout the 19th century. Due to this controversy, Einstein hardly received a formal science education in Bavaria. Despite the lack of formal education in Germany, he had a habit of self-studying from an early age and continued with this practice all through his life. He had a hard time at the authoritarian school in Munich, but at the democratic school in Aarau, where freedom and autonomy were secured, he was able to achieve emotional stability. For a long time, the city Aarau prevailed as a location of tolerance and multi-culturalism, without religious, regional, and national discrimination. This was possible due to the influence of external and unrestricted social mobility, as well as the Enlightenment from France. As a result, this small public school was able to acquire a mass of qualified human resources from outside of Switzerland. As a consequence of the controversy regarding the educational ideology, the Cantonal School adopted practical thoughts and the Enlightenment that fit the spirit of the times. The school consisted of two independent educational organizations: the Gymnasium, where the 'neuhumanistsch' education for the elite training was conducted, and the 'Gewerbeschule', where a more realistic education system was set up to suit the citizen life. In particular, after 1835, the Gymnasium changed gradually from the pure humanistic education to the 'utraquistisch' ways by introducing practical subjects such as natural history. Thereafter, the Cantonal School became an institution that was able to achieve a genuine humanity, academic, and civic life education. Einstein, who attended the 'technische Abteilung' of the 'Gewerbeschule,' considered this school as a role model of an institution that realized true democracy, and that left an unforgettable impression on him.

Second, the planning characteristic of urban regeneration case which was driven from Camden district, the center of King's Cross Central, which is located in between the two stations, St. Pancreas and King's Cross. Third, based on the the two stations and urban regeneration, this study attempts to investigate the direction of urban regenerating plan and its detailed strategy. As a result, King's Cross Station, St. Pancreas Station and the King's Cross Central area, which is an adjacent area from the two stations, were a slum for a long time. However, the two close stations played a role as the United Kindom and London's railroad network by sharing the common denominator of having the international high-speed railway among the Europe continent and being the connection of National railroads within London. Eventually, based on such potential of railroad traffic, King's Cross Central area was newly regenerated. The consequence of this study has shown that not only the physical modernization of buildings, implementation of compact railroad network supporting both ground and underground of each area or traffic connection was organized in London, but also secured the pedestrian way for easier transfer and planned and allocated facilities by considering citizen's publicness and multilateral use.
