In this study, the seismic details of a concrete-encased, U-shaped steel beam-to-RC column connection were developed. Three specimens of the beam-to-column connection were tested under cyclic loading to evaluate the seismic performance of the connection. The test parameters were the beam depth and the column section shape. The depths of the composite beams were 610 and 710 mm, including the slab depth. For the RC columns, a square section and a circular section were used. Special details using diagonal re-bars and exterior diaphragm plates were used to strengthen the connections with the rectangular and circular columns, respectively. The test results showed that the specimens exhibited good strength, deformation, and energy dissipation capacities. The deformation capacity exceeded 4% interstory drift angle, which is the requirement for the Special Moment Frame.

In this paper, general methods for enhancing the transmission efficiency through the small subwavelength aperture in an infinite conducting plane are considered first by use of the transmission-resonant aperture like the ridged circular aperture structure, second by employing the transmission-resonant cavity structure. In particular, the maximum transmission cross section is found to be $\frac{2G{\lambda}^2}{4{\pi}}[m^2]$ for the two structures, where G is the gain of the aperture in the output half space. As experimental works, the impedance matching characteristics are investigated for the cases that above two structures are incorporated as a potential near field microscopic probe in the waveguide end. As a complementary problem to the above transmission-resonant aperture problem, some discussions are also given on the scattering resonance by the scattering object much smaller than the wavelength. This discussion may provide a good understanding of the physics for the phenomena that the maximum scattering cross section is much larger than the physical size of the atom in atomic physics area.

In order to design and analyze the performance of an axial-flow pump it is necessary to know the flow deviation, deflection angle and pressure loss coefficient as a function of the angle of incidence for the hydrofoil section in use. Because such functions are unique to the particular section, however, general correlation formulae are not available for the multitude of hydrofoil profiles, and such functions must be generated by either experiment or numerical simulation for the given or selected hydrofoil section. The purpose of present study is to generate design correlations for hydrofoils with double circular arc (DCA) camber by numerical analysis using a commercial code, FLUENT. The cascade configuration is determined by a combination of the inlet blade angle, blade thickness, camber angle, and cascade solidity, and a total of 90 cascade configurations are analyzed in this study. The inlet Reynolds number based on the chord and the inlet absolute velocity is fixed at 5${\times}$10$\^$5/. Design correlations are formulated, based on the data at the incidence angle of minimum total pressure loss. The correlations obtained in this way show good agreement with the experiment data collected at NASA with DCA hydrofoils.
Average and local convective heat transfer coefficients of nitrogen are measured experimentally in an electrically heated circular tube for a range of Reynolds number from 1.08 × 104 to 3.60 × 104, and wall-to-bulk temperature ratio from 1.01 to 1.77. The exit Mach number is up to 0.17, and the heat flux is up to 46 kW·m-2. The molybdenum test section has a 62 diameters heated section with an inside diameter of 5 mm and a 30 diameters entrance section to ensure the fully-developed flow. Uncertainty of Nusselt number is less than 1.6 % in this study. The results indicate that the average heat transfer correlations evaluated by both the bulk and the modified film Reynolds numbers agree well with the experimental data. The local heat transfer results based on bulk properties are compared with previous empirical correlations. New prediction correlations are recommended which are significantly affected by the property variation and heated length. The comparison between the proposed correlations and experimental points shows that 88 % of experimental data fall into an error of 10 %, and almost all data are within an error of 20 %.

Surface area of the steel member exposed to fire differs according to type and size of the section and the kind of the member, which shows a big difference in the temperature rise of the steel by fire. The section factor ($H_p$/A) is determined by factors such as type, size, and member of the steel and type of the fire protection material, and it is the criteria in determining thickness of the fire protection material. This study showed that the size of the steel increase regardless of the steel type, the section factor decrease. In the results on fire protection thickness of the steel according to the section factor, the efficiency of 1 hour fire protection was lower from 30 to 50% than the criteria. And there is the member, which have the thickness lower the minimum 27% in 2 hour fire protection, but it generally approached in the criteria. In case of H-shape steel, the efficiency of 3 hour fire protection was suitable for the criteria, but rectangular hollow steel section and circular hollow steel section were higher (5.0-17.5%) than the criteria.
This paper discribes the practical application of stability analysis on the revetment structures, and four different sections of revetment structures are considered in this study. As a result of stability analysis, the the section of inclined revetment with T.T.P. block shows the highest safety factor against to the sliding failure of cap concrete block, while the section of inclined revetment with rubble stone shows the highest safety factor against to the straight and circular sliding failure. And the safety factors are increased by increasing of the rigidity of covered materials and by decreasing of the slope angle. For the safety factor of overturnning and bearing capacity, the section of inclined revetment structures shows higher safety factors than the section of vertical structures, and the safety factors are increased by decreasing of the slope angle and by increasing of the bottom width of the structures.
The conventional non-dig underground structure building method which made an appearance to reduce the social and environmental costs and maximize the efficiency of the social overhead capital facilities could not help being uneconomical because of many problems such as unnecessary excessive excavation, water leakage, obstacle interference, difficulty of curvilinear application and connection complexity between propelled and injected bodies due to indiscriminate application of small and large circular steel pipes without consideration of the site conditions. The T.S.T.M, in which a protruded square tube is applied as a propulsion and injection body in a design that considered site conditions such as ground condition, depth of soil and live load, was able to be economical as it solved the problems of water resistance, minimization of obstacle interference and curvilinearity, and we can see that it can be applied to all grounds by utilizing or complementing the target ground in terms of engineering. Also in configuring the transverse section, it is possible to not only secure excellent structural safety but also implement all of the above engineering characteristics not only in the square cross section but also in the arch cross section, so it was possible to build structures on any section or ground, and we could confirm the LCC reduction effect and the VE effect.

This paper deals with the free vibrations of circular strip foundations which have uniform solid rectangular cross-section. The ground which supports circular strips was modeled as the two parameter elastic foundation. Differential equations governing the flexural-torsional free vibrations of circular strips supported by such foundation were derived, and solved numerically for obtaining the natural frequencies and mode shapes. Boundary condition of free-free ends was considered for numerical examples. Four lowest natural frequencies according to the variations of five system parameters i.e. subtended angle, depth ratio, contact ratio, elasticity ratio and soil parameter are reported in the non-dimensional forms. Also, typical mode shapes of both deformations and stress resultants are presented in the figures. Experiment was conducted for validating the theory developed in this study.

This paper was studied to understand the characteristics of heat transfer coefficients and surface temperature distributions around a circular combustion chamber within the heat-intercept duct of kerosene fan heater. The experiment was carried out in the heat-intercept duct of kerosene fan heater attached to the blow-down-type subsonic wind tunnel with a test section of 240 mm * 240 mm * 1200 mm. The purpose of this paper was to obtain the basic data related with normal combustion for new design from conventional kerosene fan heater, and to investigate the effect of surface temperature, local and mean heat transfer coefficients versus flow-rate of convection axial fan according to the variations of heat release conditions from kerosene fan heater during normal combustion. Consequently it was found that (i) the revolution of convection axial fan during combustion had a smaller value than that of non-combustion because of the thermal resistance due to the high temperature in the heat-intercept duct, (ii) the pressure ratio P$_{2}$/P$_{1}$ had a comparatively constant value of 0.844 according to the revolution increase of turbo fan and the heating performance of kerosene fan heater had a range of 1,494 ~ 3,852 kcal/hr, (iii) the local heat transfer coefficient around a circular combustion chamber had a comparatively larger scale in the range of 315 deg. < .theta. < 45 deg. than that in the range of 90 deg. < .theta. < 270 deg. as a result of heat transfer difference between front and back of a circular combustion chamber, and (iv) the mean heat transfer coefficient around a circular combustion chamber increased linearly like a H$_{m}$=95.196Q+104.019 in condition of high heat release according to the increase of flow-rate of axial fan.n.

This investigation is the result of the structural analysis by finite element method and test for considering stress distribution and stress concentration to be generated according to the change of attached shape and method of the bracket to pipe in welding structure. Generally, members that consist structures are subjected to various forces and are jointed each other with a number of bracket. In this case, circular pipe was adapted in order to weld these members easily and to study the optimal design which is used a beam with shape section as main components of the structure, According to attached shape and method, distributed stress on circular pipe is appeared so differently. This may result deeply effects with respect to thickness, material properties. So a study on attaching shape and method of bracket to circular pipe is needed. In this paper, to obtain the maximum equivalent stress or stress concentration was used experimental and F.E.M. analysis. First five parameter was defined with respect to attached a shape and method to circular pipe i.e. the variation of the attached area, the variation of the attached shape, the variation of the attached length, the variation of both directin angles, the variation of the upper angle. Afterward the experimental analysis was practiced as the variation of the both direction angel and the finite element analysis was practiced as each parameters. We can discover stress distribution and stress concentration according to the change of form of bracket. And the result can be referenced for a design of similar structure.
