  • The comparison of the flow characteristics between circular and swirl jets which were controlled by the spinner attachment inside the airtube were conducted in this study. Swirl jet means a flow in whirls by mixing the flow of axial and tangential direction. Swirl flow has been used for the improvement of the combustion efficiency in the combustor. This flow is controlled by the spinner which has several vanes inclined by certain angles to the axial direction. In this study, angle of vane $30^{\circ}$ and diameter ratio of outlet to inlet of the airtube 0.73 were made. These spec. should find on the general gun type burner built in the domestic small size boiler. As the flow characteristics, axial and tangential velocities were measured by using the 2-D hot-wire velocimeter system and analyzed statistically. And also this research conducted a practical experiment considering to the attached belongings likes as ignitor, nozzle etc. on the airtube of the gun type burner. As a result, swirl occurred at the occasion of beingness and flow region extended considerably toward the radial direction. But effect of swirl did not transmit to the downstream. And the complicated flow was appeared regardless of the existence of spinner because of the effect of belongings.

  • Fully Reynolds Stress model is applied to predict recirculation pattern, velocity and Reynolds shear stress distributions in a circular jet coaxially confined in a round pipe. It is found that the generation of velocity region depends on Curtet number(Ct). It is also found that the Reynolds shear stress and velocity distributions in the inital jet region depend strongly on the Curtet number up to about X/D = 2.0 but they are almost independent of the Curtet number further downstream.

  • The characteristics of the unstable impinging circular jet were investigated based on the frequency characteristics and the sound field of the impinging-tones. Two symmetric modes Si and S2, associated with low frequency and high frequency respectively, and one helical mode H have been observed by measuring frequency and phase-distribution around the jet. Radiation characteristics of impinging-tone were studied by measuring axial directivity. It was founded that the radiation patterns of symmetric and helical mode are different and it is toward the plate as the impinging distance increased. By estimating the convection velocity of the unstable jet, it was founded that the convection speed decreases with the frequency and its decreasing pattern varies with unstable modes S1, S2 and H, respectively.

  • Automatic trajectory re-planning is an integral part of unmanned aerial vehicle mission planning. In order to be able to perform this task, it is necessary to dispose of formulas or tables to assess the flyability of various typical flight segments. Notwithstanding their importance, there exist such data only for some particularly simple segments such as rectilinear and circular sub-trajectories. This article presents an analysis of a new, very efficient, way for an airplane to fly on an inclined circular trajectory. When it flies this way, the only thrust required is that which cancels the drag. It is shown that, then, much more inclined trajectories are possible than when they fly at constant speed. The corresponding equations of motion are solved exactly for the position, the speed, the load factor, the bank angle, the lift coefficient and the thrust and power required for the motion. The results obtained apply to both types of airplanes: those with internal combustion engines and propellers, and those with jet engines. Conditions on the trajectory parameters are derived, which guarantee its flyability according to the dynamical properties of a given airplane. An analytical procedure is described that ensures that all these conditions are satisfied, and which can serve for producing tables from which the trajectory flyability can be read. Sample calculations are shown for the Cessna 182, a Silver Fox like unmanned aerial vehicle, and an F-16 jet airplane.

  • In this study, breakwater model which has several outlet pipes to discharge water is settled in the experimental open channel and mean velocity distributions of multi wall jet are measured. The length of zone of flow establishment of wall jet is shorter than that of free jet and decay rate of jet centerline longitudinal velocity along x is linear in $0.3{leq}x/I_p{leq}17$. The rate of vertical width and lateral width spreading of multi wall jet is respectively 0.0753, 0.157.

  • The objective of this study is to find experimentally the characteristics of the noise generated by the impinging jet on the normal plate, and also to compare the noise characteristics of the impinging jet with those of the free jet. The experiment is performed for the measurement of the noise specturm, the noise power, and the directivity for the free and impinging jets. From the experiment. it is found that the power of noises generated by the free jet as well as the impinging jet is proportional to the eighth power of the jet velocity through the circular converging nozzle, and that the noise power of the impinging jet is 15dB as high as one of the free jet when the plate distance is about within one to three times the nozzle diameter at the pressure ratio 1.39. The sound pressure level of the impinging jet depends upon the jet pressure and the plate distance. The plate distance with the maximum overall sound pressure level is increased with the jet pressure. The directivities with 1/3 octave band frequency for both the free jet and the impinging jet are greatly influenced by the convection effect.

  • The present experiment is conducted to investigate heat transfer characteristics on the impinging surface with secondary flows around circular nozzle jets. The changed vortex pattern around jet affects significantly the flow characteristics and heat transfer coefficients on the impinging surface. The effects of the jet vortex control are also considered with jet nozzle-to-plate distances and main jet velocities. The vortex pattern around a jet is changed from a convective instability to an absolute instability with a velocity suction ratio of the main jet and the secondary counterflow. With the absolute instability condition, the jet potential core length increases and the heat transfer on the impinging surface is increased by small scale eddies. The region of high heat transfer coefficients is enlarged with the high Reynolds number due to increasing secondary peak values. The effect of suction flows is influenced largely with collars attached the exit of the jet nozzle because the attached collar guides well the counterflow around the main jet.

  • Oil-film surface flow visualizations and three-dimensional flow measurements using a straight five-hole probe have been conducted for a circular impinging jet which is normally oriented to the crossflow in a channel. Throughout the experiments, the ratio of channel height to injection hole diameter, H/D, is fixed to be 1.0, and blowing ratio is varied to be 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0. From the surface flow visualizations for both top wall(target plate) and bottom wall, impinging jet region on the target plate can be clearly identified, and for the small value of H/D = 1.0, presence of the bottom wall changes the near-hole flow structure, significantly. The three-dimensional flow measurements show that in the dawnstream region of the injection hole, there exist a pair of counter-rotating vortices, called "scarf vortices", and the strength of the vortices strongly depends on the blowing ratio. In addition, a new flow model in the flow symmetry plane has been proposed for H/D = 1.0.

  • The HANARO, a multi-purpose research reactor of 30 MWth, open-tank-in-pool type, has been under normal operation since its initial criticality in February, 1995. The HANARO is composed af inlet plenum, grid plate, core channel with flow tubes and chimney. The reactor core channel is located at about twelve meters (12 m) depth of the reactor pool and cooled by the upward flow that the coolant enters the lower inlet of the plenum, rises up through the grid plate and the core channel and comes out from the outlet of chimney. A fission moly guide tube is extended from the reactor core to the top of the reactor chimney for easily loading a fission moly target under the reactor normal operation. But active coolant through the core can be quickly raised up to the top of the chimney through the guide tube by jet flow. This paper describes an analytical analysis that is the study of the flow behavior through the guide tube under reactor normal operation and unloading the target. As results, it was conformed through the analysis results that the flow rate, reduced to about fourteen kilogram per second (14 kg/s) from the original flow rate of sixteen point three kilogram per second (16.3 kg/s) did not show the guide tube jet.
