  • Nowadays, one of the serious problems in KEPCO system is the larger fault current than the SCC(Short Circuit Capacity) of circuit breaker. There are many alternatives to reduce the increased fault current such as isolations of bus ties, enhancement of SCC of circuit breaker, applications of HVDC-BTB(Back to Back) and FCL(fault current limiter). However, these alternatives have some drawbacks in viewpoints of system stability and cost. As the superconductivity technology has been developed, the HTS-FCL(High Temperature Superconductor-Fault Current Limiter) can be one of the attractive alternatives to solve the fault current problem. Under this background, this paper presents the EMTDC model for resistive type HTS-FCL considering the nonlinear characteristic of final resistance value when quenching Phenomena occur.

  • On-line monitoring system is important for high voltage vacuum circuit breakers (HVCBs) in operation condition assessment and fault diagnosis. A distributed multilayer system with client/server architecture is developed on rated voltage 10kV HVCB with spring operating mechanism. It can collect data when HVCB switches, calculate the necessary parameters, show the operation conditions and provide abundant information for fault diagnosis. Ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) is used to detect the singular point which is regarded as the contact moment. This method has been applied to on-line monitoring system successfully and its satisfactory effect has been proved through experiments. SVM and FCM are both effective methods for fault diagnosis. A combinative algorithm is designed to judge the faults of HVCB's operating mechanism. The system's precision and stability are confirmed by field tests.

  • We proposed the new pixel compensation circuit with high aperture ratio and the driving method for the large-area, low-power AMOLED applications in this study. We designed with the low-temperature poly-silicon(LTPS) thin film transistors(TFTs) that has poor uniformity but good mobility and stability. To lower the error rate of the pixel circuit and to improve the aperture ratio for bottom emission method, we simplified the pixel compensation circuit. Because the proposed pixel compensation circuit with high aperture ratio has very low contrast ratio for conventional driving methods, we proposed the new driving method and circuit for high contrast ratio. Black data insertion was introduced to improve the characteristics for moving images. The pixel circuit was designed for 19.6" WXGA bottom-emission AMOLED panel, and the average aperture ratio of the pixel circuit is improved from 33.0% to 41.9%. For the TFT's $V_{TH}$ variation of ${\pm}0.2\;V$, the non-uniformity and contrast ratio of the designed panel was estimated under 6% and over 100000:1 respectively.

  • This paper presents a metric that can guide to optimal circuit models for interconnects among various models, given interconnect parameters and operating environment. To get this goal, we categorize interconnects into RC~c1ass and RLC-c1ass model domains based on the quantitative modeling error analysis using total resistance, inductance and capacitance of interconnects as well as operating frequency. RC~c1ass circuit models, which include most on~chip interconnects, can be efficiently analyzed by using the model~order reduction techniques. RLC-c1ass circuit models are constructed using one of three candidates, ILC(Iterative Ladder Circuit) macromodels, MC(Method of Characteristics) macromodels, and state-based convolution method, the selection process of which is based upon the allowable modeling error and electrical parameters of interconnects. We propose the model domain diagram leading to optimal circuit models and the division of model domains has been achieved considering the simulation cost of macromodels under the environmental assumption of the general purpose circuit simulator such as SPICE. The macromodeling method presented in this paper keeps the passivity of the original interconnects and accordingly guarantees the unconditional stability of circuit models.

  • The margin of transient stability of a weak grid system is very low because of the small short-circuit ratio and large impedance. If the fault of the weak grid is cleared by the protection system, one of the major lines is disconnected after the fault is cleared. This further reduces the system strength. Therefore, it is necessary that a new generation system be added to the weak grid to enhance the transient stability margin. A conventional synchronous generator and wind turbine generator were added to a base grid system. The results of transient stability analysis with additional generators using PSSE were compared. The simulations showed that wind turbine generators provide good damping performance and enhance the transient stability margin based on CCT up to 5 times.

  • Solid-state fault current limiters (SSFCL) in power systems are alternative devices to limit prospective short circuit currents from reaching lower levels. Fault current limiters (FCL) can be classified into two categories: R-type (resistive) FCLs and L-type (inductive) FCLs. L-type FCL uses an inductor to limit fault level and is more efficient in suppressing voltage drop during a fault. In contrast, R-type FCL is constructed with a resistance and is more effective in consuming the acceleration energy of generators during a fault. Both functions enhance the transient stability of the power system. In the present paper, a novel SSFCL is proposed to enhance power system transient stability and power quality. The proposed SSFCL uses both functions of an L-type and R-type FCL. SSFCL consists of four diodes, one self-turn-off IGCT, a current-limiting by-pass inductor (L), and a variable resistance parallel with an inductor for improvement of power system stability and prevention of over-voltage across SSFCL. The main advantages of the proposed SSFCL are the simplicity of its structure and control, low steady-state impedance, fast response, and the existence of R-type and Ltype impedances during the fault, all of which improve power system stability and power quality. Simulations are accomplished in PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • Recently, scaling down of ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration) circuit of CMOS (Complementary Meta Oxide Semiconductor) based electronic devices, the electronic devices, become much faster and smaller size that are promising property of semiconductor market. However, very narrow interconnect line width has some disadvantages. Deposition of conformal and thin barrier is not easy. And metallization process needs deposition of diffusion barrier and glue layer for EP/ELP deposition. Thus, there is not enough space for copper filling process. In order to get over these negative effects, simple process of copper metallization is important. In this study, Cu-V alloy layer was deposited using of DC/RF magnetron sputter deposition system. Cu-V alloy film was deposited on the plane SiO2/Si bi-layer substrate with smooth surface. Cu-V film's thickness was about 50 nm. Cu-V alloy film deposited at $150^{\circ}C$. XRD, AFM, Hall measurement system, and AES were used to analyze this work. For the barrier formation, annealing temperature was 300, 400, $500^{\circ}C$ (1 hour). Barrier thermal stability was tested by I-V(leakage current) and XRD analysis after 300, 500, $700^{\circ}C$ (12 hour) annealing. With this research, over $500^{\circ}C$ annealed barrier has large leakage current. However vanadium-based diffusion barrier annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ has good thermal stability. Therefore thermal stability of vanadium-based diffusion barrier is desirable for copper interconnection.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of task-oriented circuit training using unstable support surface on balance, gait ability, and balance confidence in subacute stroke patients. Methods : Forty-five patients with subacute stroke were randomly divided into the three following groups of 15: 1) TOCT-US group; task-oriented circuit training using unstable surface (experimental group 1), 2) TOCT-SS group; task-oriented circuit training using stable surface (experimental group 2), and 3) CON group; conventional physical therapy (control group). All patients participated in one of the three training programs for 6 weeks, 30 minutes per session, 3 times per week. Patients' balance ability was assessed using the BT-4, BBS (berg balance scale), TUG (time up and go test), and LOS (limit of stability). Gait speed was measured to examine gait ability. K-ABC (activities-specific balance confidence scale) was also used to assess the level of patients' confidence in daily activities. Results : After the intervention, the sway area in experimental groups 1 and 2 decreased, but that in the control group increased. Experimental group 1 showed significant improvement compared with experimental group 2 and the control group. BBS, TUG, and LOS scores of experimental group 1 were significantly improved compared with those of experimental group 2 and the control group. Also, gait speed significantly improved in experimental group 1 compared with experimental group 2 and the control group. Experimental groups 1 and 2 showed significant improvement in K-ABC scores after training. Conclusion : Patients with subacute stroke had significantly improved balance, gait, and level of confidence in performing activities of daily living following task-oriented circuit training using the unstable surface. This indicates that task-oriented circuit training using unstable surfaces can be an effective treatment method for the recovery of balance and gait in subacute stroke patients.
