  • Because of the changes of a variety of aspects of disease theory alternative to standard medicine, demand for traditional medicine has increased. This study was undertaken to grasp and compare traditional-medicine administrative structure, functions and role between Korea and China. According to our research, both nations promote policy related to traditional-medicine, yet there are various differences because of each nation's scale, political structure, medical system, etc. Especially, compare to the Korean government, the Chinese government not only has paid more attention to traditional medicine but also established and promoted a synthesis development strategy for a long time. Additionally, there is weakness in Korea's traditional medicine policy compared to the Chinese's Synthetic development-strategy, which is the Oriental-policy Department and Korea Food&Drug administration. Therefore, to make up for the weakness, they will have to organize their role better and make a long-term development-strategy plan for traditional medicine.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to review the research trends in the periodic therapy of dysmenorrhea in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Methods: We searched articles in Chinese Academic journal (CAJ). Search key words were 'dysmenorrhea' and 'periodic therapy or cyclic treatment'. Results: We selected 6 studies except unrelated studies. According to study design, study was classified into 1 single group before after study and 5 randomized controlled trials. According to dysmenorrheal type, study was classified into 4 studies on primary dysmenorrhea and 2 studies on secondary dysmenorrhea. In the selected studies, there were four studies in which the menstrual cycle was divided into 2 periods, one study divided into 3 periods, and one study divided into 4 periods. The most used herb was "Angelicae Gigantis Radix", "Cinnamomi Cortex Spissus". All studies showed effective results on dysmenorrhea. Conclusions: In TCM, Research on periodic therapy of dysmenorrhea was being conducted more actively than Korean medicine. The periodic therapy seems to be effective on dysmenorrhea from this research. It would be necessary to fulfill further clinical study with periodic therapy on dysmenorrhea in Korean medicine to establish standard evidence of them.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to review the research trends in the treatment of eating disorder in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Methods: The CNKI database (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) was searched under the key words ‘Eating Disorder’, ‘Anorexia Nervosa’, and ‘Bulimia Nervosa’. Results: Thirteen articles were selected. These included 2 studies on bulimia nervosa, and 11 studies on anorexia nervosa. According to study design, studies were classified into 1 randomized controlled trial, 2 single group before-and-after studies, and 8 case reports. According to therapy method, they included 11 herbal medicine studies, and 2 complex treatment studies. The most common pattern identification was ‘liver qi depression’ (肝氣鬱結), and the most used herb was ‘Root of Bupleurum falcatum’ (柴胡). Most of the studies showed effective results. Conclusions: The results of our study indicated that TCM clinical studies on eating disorder were being conducted more actively than in Korean medicine. Korean medical treatment might be effective to relieve eating disorder symptoms. In the future, more scientifically designed clinical studies should be performed to prove the effectiveness of traditional Korean medicine treatment on eating disorder.

Methods We investigated clinical studies using traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of MTSS through China National Knowledge Infrastructure search. Fourteen studies published from 2000 to 2022 were adopted and analyzed. We examined authors, type of study design, publishied year, intervention, treatment effectiveness. Results Among 14 studies, 8 were case reports and 6 were randomized controlled trials. Four interventions were used in 14 studies. Acupuncture and physical therapy were most frequently used interventions, each used in 12 studies. For evaluation of treatment effectness, 7 outcome measurements were used, effective rate was the most commonly used measurement. All of 14 studies showed good treatment results. Conclusions Through this study, we were able to identify current trends of Chinese medicine treatment for MTSS. Based on this, more study should be conducted to accumulate evidence for Korean medicine treatment of MTSS.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to review the research trends in the treatment of panic disorder in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Methods: We searched articles in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2004 to 2014. Search key words were '惊恐' and 'panic disorder', and we selected eight studies except for non-clinical, unrelated studies, tests on animals. Results: We finally selected eight articles, and the results were as follows. CCMD-3 was most frequently used as a diagnostic criterion and HAMA was mostly used for outcome measurement. In TCM there are various ways, such as herbal medicine, acupuncture and psychotherapy, to treat panic disorder. Most of the studies showed effective results. Most of the treatment group reported that they had less side effects than the control group. However, the quality of these clinical studies was low. Conclusions: In TCM, research on panic disorder was being conducted more actively than in Korean medicine. According to this study, it seems that in TCM, the treatment of panic disorder might be more effective and have some advantages. Therefore, with this study, we hope to activate more clinical research on the treatment of panic disorder in Korean medicine.

  • Objective This study analyzed randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on pediatric asthma using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to determine its efficacy and safety. Methods We searched electronic databases in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean and evaluated 35 articles published up to December 28, 2022. Based on data from the literature, we analyzed treatments, results, composition of herbal medicine, frequency of medicinal herbs, and decoction. Results TCM for pediatric asthma was compared to supportive therapy, inhaled corticosteroids, and standardized treatments. Of the 35 studies, 32 showed that TCM treatments were effective in alleviating asthma symptoms. Furthermore, TCM treatment was considered safe compared to common asthma treatments. Among the TCM treatments for pediatric asthma, the most frequent decoctions were Gamisaganmahwangtang (加味射干麻黃湯) and Saganmahwangtang (射干麻黃湯). Ephedra Herba (麻黄), Armeniacae Semen (杏仁), Asiasari Radix et Rhizoma (細辛), Belamcandae Rhizoma (射干) were herbs that were frequently used for asthma in TCM decoctions. Conclusion This review showed that TCM is effective in treating pediatric asthma. More clinical RCTs are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of TCM treatment.

Conclusions : 78% of all forecast subjects were accomplished or partially accomplished. According to 'accomplishment percentage by field', while those in the medical information, literature, history field were most realized of all, those in the clinical research field were least realized.
