The purpose of this study was to improve the understanding of essential experiences of children of Alcoholism and explore their adjustment process from the children's perspectives. The specific research questions explored in this study were: 1. What was the central phenomenon that children of Alcoholism have experienced? 2. What was the adjustment process of the children of Alcoholism. The grounded theory was adopted in this study to address the research questions. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with eight young adult aged from 18-30 years olds who experienced their parent's Alcoholism. Grounded theory based data analyses resulted in 85 concepts, 30 sub-categories, and 16 categories. The 'causal conditions' influencing the central phenomenon was 'self denial' and 'being suppressed' is the central phenomenon for the children of Alcoholism. The core issue in the process of an adjustment of children from a Alcoholism family was 'accepting the parental Alcoholic problem and re-defining the self', The results of this study suggest that counseling interventions are suggested to improve children's well-being and facilitate their adjustment. Therefore this study has implication on building theory of intervention on the offsprings who have parents of Alcoholism.
This study examined the relationship between parent-child relationship experiences in childhood and adulthood, and individual development and psychological well-being in mid to later life using structural equation modeling with data from 1,882 parents who have at least one child over 18 years old. Findings indicated that receiving more affectionate parenting in childhood was associated with greater generativity development, more positive parental experiences with one's own children, and better psychological well-being in mid to later adulthood. In addition, the effects of received parenting in childhood on psychological well-being after midlife were partially mediated by parental experiences with adult children and generativity development. These findings suggest that early experiences with parents in childhood continuously influence psychological well-being in adulthood through their impact on concurrent family experiences. However, early influences can be redirected through adult experiences too. These findings have implications for the development of intervention programs aimed at promoting volunteer work for older adults, as well as for practitioners who work with families and individuals who are having problems.
This study was conducted to provide basic data for prioritization of family support services by examining the importance and performance of family support for parents of children with special education. To achieve the purpose of the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted with 220 parents of children from special education nationwide. As a result of the study, the importance of all 29 family support service items was rated high, but the performance level was low, and statistically significant differences were found. In addition, as a result of analysis of importance and performance, family support services related to physical and physical well-being and disability-related support were evaluated as high-priority, low-practice services, and it was a task that should be presented as a priority in family support services. On the other hand, it was found that family support services in the areas of family interaction support or emotional well-being were considered to be services that should be avoided due to their low importance but high performance. Based on the results of these studies, the direction for the operation of family support services for children with special education needs to be suggested in the future.

This study examined the satisfaction of the married women from aged 20s through 50s with well-being oriented foods, considering the importance of each subordinate field and verifying the differences between the groups according to socio-demographic factors, purchase behavior factors, and well-being oriented dietary life factors, followed by an analysis of the relative influence of those relevant factors. A preliminary survey was conducted from January 4th-11th, 2009 to check if there were any problems or misunderstood parts before the main survey. After the preliminary study was conducted, certain problems were adjusted and supplemented, and then the main survey was conducted for twenty-three days, from January 4th to February 5th, 2009. The summaries of this study are as follows: First, in the view of the purchase behavior, the mainly purchased well-being oriented foods were farm products, and the leading purpose of the purchase was for the parents and the children. It was shown that 30% or more of the information sources on well-being oriented foods were families, relatives and neighbors. More than 66% of the purchasing was done at wholesale marts and the topped purchasing frequency was from 5 to 6 per month. More than 71% of payments for well-being oriented foods were \50,000~100,000 per month. More than 51% of the respondents answered that the proper price of well-being oriented foods was 1.2 times to 1.5 times of that of other foods. Second, the satisfaction of the well-being oriented foods was ranked as 3.21 to 3.28 out of 5, and varied with the usages and the methods of weights. Investigating the satisfaction with each subordinate field, the satisfaction with price was shown to be low. The satisfaction with the assortments of foods and the satisfaction with the therapeutic degree by thorough investigation and management of foods were also relatively low. Third, well-being oriented dietary behavior was shown to be characterized by two factors, through factor analysis in this study. One was an eco-friendly oriented behavioral factor and the other was a health oriented selective factor. Fourth, the stepwise multiple regression analysis results investigating the relative influence of the factors effecting satisfaction with well-being oriented foods showed that the top ranked factor affecting total satisfaction was eco-friendly oriented behavioral factor, followed by education level and purchasing sites, especially of consumer groups.
This study aimed to verify the positive effects of forest activities for children from economically underprivileged households in local children's centers and the effect of such activities on the protective factors of their development. One hundred and eighty five children participated in the Forest Activities Program, which conducted over a total 8 sessions. Pre-post tests of the subjective well-being scale, DAS, multiple life satisfaction scale, ego-resilience scale were conducted and the children then made picture stories during the program itself. The results of the analysis of differences between pre-post tests were as follows: first, the negative emotions of participating children decreased significantly. Second, the school-satisfaction and self-satisfaction levels of the participating children increased. Third the participating children's positive perceptions of self and interpersonal relationships also increased through the forest activities. Finally, there were differences of the change types of picture stories that children created while they were participating in the program; and these divergences were related to the effectiveness of the program. These forest activities had positive effects upon the economically disadvantaged children who participated in this study. However, in order to increase the effects of such forest activities qualitatively, greater support for the active involvement of children is required.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an after-school cooking program on the eating habits and sociality of children. Thirty five children from the 3rd to the 6th grade of G Elementary School participated in this program comprising 12 periods of cooking activities, from May to August 2013. The content of the after-school cooking program included japchae, topokki, jajangmyeon, oi sobagi, cake, snack wrap, vegetable fried rice, sticky noodle, sushi, pizza, rice muffin, and sandwiches. Before and after learning, the participants' eating habits and sociality were investigated. The study analyzed the mean, standard deviation, and Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Ranks Test results for a comparison between the pre- and post-test results. On the basis of the research findings and discussions, the study reached the following conclusions. First, the after-school cooking program was analyzed as being helpful and useful in categorizing the eating habits of children as sanitary dietary life, well-mannered dietary life, and healthy dietary life. Further, more girls than boys fostered effective eating habits. Second, the after-school cooking program was analyzed as being helpful and useful in determining sociality and more girls than boys fostered effective sociality. Third, cooking is an appropriate topic for the after-school program of Korean elementary schools, and the cooking program has expanded in G Elementary School after the abovementioned experiment.
Teaching swimming to the disability children's has been an accepted adjunct to other therapeutic and rehabilitative modalities for several decades. Much has been written on this subject during ths past 30 years both in the United States and in England. The purpose of this article is First, to describe the basic on swimming program equipment and principles of treatment. Second, an swimming program designied specially for use with disability children's. The foregoing designied swimming program as a recreational and therapeutic activity has tremendous potential for maintaining or improving the psychological and physical well being of the disability children's. A swimming or pool therapy program which is under the supervision of a therapist with a keen understanding of the nature and complexity of disability children's.
Purpose: The study investigated the relationships between key variables, including the level of parenting knowledge, acculturative stress, depression, and the strengths and difficulties associated with their children's emotions and behavior, among North Korean refugee mothers who faced the challenging task of adapting to Korean society while raising their children. Methods: A descriptive study design was used. Data were collected from 130 North Korean refugee mothers between September and November 2023. Results: The participants had very limited parenting knowledge, and 82.3% of them scored 21 or higher on the depression scale used in community epidemiological studies. Higher levels of parenting knowledge and lower levels of depression were associated with lower levels of acculturative stress. Moreover, higher levels of depression were associated with more emotional and behavioral difficulties in children. Maternal depression, age, and employment status were identified as factors that influenced emotional and behavioral problems in preschool-aged children. Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of providing parent education and mental health support programs for North Korean refugee families in order to improve parents' parenting skills and emotional well-being.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the socioeconomic inequality in malnutrition in under-5 children in Iran in order to help policymakers reduce such inequality. Methods: Data on 8443 under-5 children were extracted from the Iran Multiple Indicator Demographic and Health Survey. The wealth index was used as proxy for socioeconomic status. Socioeconomic inequality in stunting, underweight, and wasting was calculated using the concentration index. The concentration index was calculated for the whole sample, as well as for subcategories defined in terms of categories such as area of residence (urban and rural) and the sex of children. Results: Stunting was observed to be more prevalent than underweight or wasting. The results of the concentration index at the national level, as well as in rural and urban areas and in terms of children's sex, showed that inequality in stunting and underweight was statistically significant and that children in the lower quintiles were more malnourished. The wasting index was not sensitive to socioeconomic status, and its concentration index value was not statistically significant. Conclusions: This study showed that it can be misleading to assess the mean levels of malnutrition at the national level without knowledge of the distribution of malnutrition among socioeconomic groups. Significant socioeconomic inequalities in stunting and underweight were observed at the national level and in both urban and rural areas. Regarding the influence of nutrition on the health and economic well-being of preschool-aged children, it is necessary for the government to focus on taking targeted measures to reduce malnutrition and to focus on poorer groups within society who bear a greater burden of malnutrition.
This research investigated the influence of subjective well-being on attitude towards minority group members. In a cross-sectional data, the higher subjective well-being predicted more positive cognitive beliefs, affective feelings, and behavioral intentions towards foreign laborers and children of international couples. The causal link from subjective well-being to greater tolerance for cultural diversity was found again in a large longitudinal sample. The rate of life satisfaction increase from Time 1 to Time 2 significantly predicted multicultural receptiveness at Time 2. Overall, the findings suggest that subjective well-being may contribute to the formation of favorable attitude towards minority group members.
