The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on the balance between work and family were income, age of first child, time spent on housework and childcare on weekdays, time spent on housework on weekends, family-friendly service in the workplace and flexibility of work schedule. 2) The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on happiness were age, income, time spent on housework on weekends, satisfaction with spouse's participation in housework and childcare, average working time, family-fiendly service in the workplace, flexibility of work schedule, and balance between work and family. The majority of the variables that influence balance between work and family, and happiness related to aspects of work, such as family-fiendly service, flexibility of work schedules, and average working time. • The purpose of current study was to investigate if there is a difference in perception of professionalism depending on MBTI personality types of infant childcare teachers. The subjects of present study were 350 infant childcare teachers. The results for each research question were as follows: First, when the relationship between MBTI personality types and perception of professionalism of infant childcare teachers was investigated, it was found that higher professionalism was evident when preference for judging(J) type of infant childcare teachers among MBTI personality types was stronger, and lower professionalism was evident if preference for perceiving (P) type was stronger. Second, the result of examining differences in perception of professionalism according to MBTI personality types of infant childcare teachers was that extrovert teachers had higher perception of professional knowledge and skills than introvert teachers and there was no difference in perception of professionalism between sensing and intuition types. Teachers of thinking type had higher perception about fairness and professional organizations than those of emotional type, and teachers of judging had higher perception about socio-economic status, community service, and professional knowledge and skills than those of perception. Based on this study result, discussion was made on the fact that provision of more proper role among child and infant classes may result in efficiency and emotional and professional support is necessary so that professionalism of infant childcare teachers may be heightened.

  • This paper aims to examine the effects of increase in childcare subsidy on time allocation of women, particularly low- and moderate-income women with pre-school children. For the purpose, the study adopts seemingly unrelated tobit and analyses data from the 2004 and 2009 Time Use Survey Data of the National Statistical Office. First of all, the results reveal that the policy changes in childcare subsidy affect time allocation of low- and moderate-income women with pre-school children, which increases paid-work whereas decreases caregiving and housework in a daily life. The results show that the changes take place in accordance with the goals of childcare subsidy promoting women's employment and reducing women's burden of caregiving. Yet the study has a couple of limitations- the only marginally significant impact in several variables, little effect on time allocation of all women- for the generalization of the findings. Nevertheless, the results indicate that employment policies for women, particularly for mothers, and the provision of childcare services should be improved to maximize the positive effects of increase in childcare subsidy.

  • The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has conducted the Dietary Education Projects at Childcare Centers since 2015. This study provides preliminary data for early childhood dietary education programs, by evaluating the outcomes of the projects. This survey enrolled 212 participants whose children had participated in the projects, and 142 non-participants. Comparing the perception of importance towards each educational program of the projects, dietary education program gained significantly higher importance than other subjects included, and was significantly higher in the participants than in non-participants. In the preference for food group survey for children, vegetable and seaweed preferences were higher among participants than non-participants, indicating that participation in the dietary education projects contribute towards increase in preferences for vegetables and seaweed, which children generally dislike. No significant differences were observed in children's dietary habits between participant and non-participant groups, thereby suggesting that the education projects were insufficient for inducing dietary habit changes. In order to accomplish effective improvement of dietary habits, the education projects need further improvements to achieve systematic and long-term plans.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the amount of sugar from the afternoon snack menu of childcare facilities in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The amount of sugar was analyzed for afternoon snacks provided by childcare facilities between March and April 2016. The snacks provided were the same for processed and non-processed foods at 50.0% respectively. White milk accounted for the largest portion with 26.4%, followed by fruits with 19.9% and grains (sweet potatoes, rice cakes, etc.). It has been confirmed that the larger the facility, the lower the frequency of provision of non-processed foods, and the higher the provision of processed foods (p<0.05). Snacks served as non-processed foods showed the highest frequency of fruits and sweet potatoes. On the other hand, processed foods provided many sugar-rich products, such as liquid yogurt, hot cakes, and cereal, excluding white milk. The average sugar content was highest in processed milk products (13.9 g), followed by white milk (8.6 g), bread and snacks (8.0 g), other (4.6 g), and mixed grains (1.6 g). Of the total 216 snacks, banana flavored milk had the highest sugar content of 27.0 g, followed by strawberry milk (15.0 g) and castella (21.6 g). The findings are expected to be used as basic data for choosing the right snacks provided by childcare facilities and practicing reducing sugar intake.

  • The virus isolated from patients with severe pneumonia of unknown etiology in Wuhan City, Hubei province in China was termed SARS-CoV-2 and the World Health Organization (WHO) named the disease caused by this virus as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The COVID-19 infection has spread rapidly and become a pandemic. In July 2020, there were 13.25 million infected patients and over 570,000 deaths worldwide, and 13,711 infected patients and 294 deaths were reported in South Korea. Since the primary mode of transmission of COVID-19 is through respiratory droplets, the importance of preventive measures, including social distancing, has become important in daily life. In response to the continuous spread of COVID-19, this study developed three guidelines for preventing COVID-19 for the food service industry including childcare centers, institutional foodservices and restaurants by the integration of the manual of controlling foodborne illness. These are included the COVID-19 prevention action methods for food deliverers, for food service administrator, for foodservice works and for customers. All guidelines were designed for easy understanding using illustrations and have been systematically explained subject wise. Thus, these COVID-19 prevention guidelines can be appropriately applied depending on the specific situation and workplace. In addition, they are worthy as educational materials that contribute to the food safety.
