  • The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between a simple method for measuring lipid peroxidation by using a chemiluminescence analyzer and traditional methods, such as 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances or peroxide value of solid food samples. Freeze-dried egg yolk powder was kept on $25^{\circ}C$, under dark condition. The peroxidation value was measured during certain storage period by using 3 methods, and the chemiluminescence value was compared with 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances or peroxide value. For comparison, 3 kinds of freeze-dried egg yolk were prepared from whole eggs purchased from a local market. The chemiluminescence value was significantly correlated with both the peroxide value and the 2-thiobarbituric acid related substances during storage, and showed a high correlation to the real sample test. It showed a little higher correlation with peroxide value. These results suggest that using a chemiluminescence analyzer may provide the ability to measure the lipid peroxidation of high lipid content solid-food samples, instead performing both the 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances test and measuring the peroxide value.

  • In this paper, the study of effects of flow variables on flame structure and NOx emission concentration was performed in co-axial laminar partially premixed methane/air flames. the objectives are to reveal its effect as parameters were varied and to understand the correlation between flame structure and NOx emission characteristics in the reaction zone. equivalence ratio(${\Phi}$), fuel split degree(${\sigma}$), and mixing distance(x/D) were defined as a premixing degree and varied within $1.36{\sim}3.17$(equivalence ratio), $50{\sim}100$(fuel split degree), and $5{\sim}20$(mixing distance). the image of $OH{\ast}$ and $CH{\ast}$, and NOx concentration were obtained with an ICCD camera and a NOx analyzer. additionally the maximum intensity location of $OH{\ast}$ chemiluminescence and $CH{\ast}$ chemiluminescence were measured to compare each flame structures. In conclusion flame structure and NOx emission characteristics were changed from diffused to premixed flame when mixing degree was on the increase. the main effect on flame structure and NOx production was at first equivalence ratio(${\Phi}$), and next fuel split degree(${\sigma}$), and finally mixing distance(x/D).

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the real flame shape and characteristic of annular combustor. To identify the effects of combustor length ratio and equivalence ratio on the flame shape in annular combustion configuration, the employed parameters are combustor length ratio 0.6-1.0, equivalence ratio 0.7-1.1. The flame shape is visualized using DSLR camera and precision optic mirror. The flame intensity is analyzed by $OH^{*}$ chemiluminescence images with ICCD camera. CO and NOx emission performance is also examined using an exhaust gas analyzer. From the visualized images, it is confirmed that the different tendency appeared in combustor length ratio 0.6-0.7 and 0.8-1.0. The results of $OH^{*}$ chemiluminescence show that the flame intensity is the most uniform for equivalence ratio 0.9. The smaller equivalence ratio is, the less emission of CO and NOx will be in this investigation range.

  • We developed an in-situ analyzer to understand the HONO levels in indoor environments. The in-situ measurement system utilizes a diffusion scrubber and luminol chemiluminescence to measure the HONO concentration with time resolution of 4-minute. Concentrations of NO, $NO_{2}$, and HONO were determined at an indoor air of an apartment for 9 days using the developed in-situ analyzer. Indoor HONO concentrations were highly elevated when a gas range was operated. Enhancements of the indoor NO, $NO_{2}$, and HONO concentrations during combustion indicate that the observed indoor HONO was formed by direct emission. In addition to the direct emission, the indoor HONO was partially generated from heterogeneous reactions of $NO_{2}$ on indoor surfaces, which was supported by strong relationships between peak NO, $NO_{2}$, and HONO concentrations, high HONO/$NO_{2}$ ratio and a weak correlation between NO and HONO concentrations. Additionally, three combustion experiments during the whole measurement period were performed to investigate the effects of unvented and vented gas burning on the HONO, NO, and $NO_{2}$ concentrations and their decay. The decay rate of the HONO concentration was significantly less than the NO and $NO_{2}$ decay rates for all the experiments, indicating that the lifetimes of trace nitrogen species in indoor environment varied in the order approximately HONO>$NO_{2}$>NO.

  • The characteristics of combustion and flow for a lean premixed flame in lab-scale gas turbine combustor was studied through experiment and numerical analysis. From the experiment, flame structure and heat release rate were obtained from OH emission spectroscopy. Qualitative comparisons were made line-integrated OH chemiluminescence image and abel-transformed one. NOx analyzer was implemented to get the characteristic of NOx exhaust from the combustor. From the numerical analysis, the thermal distribution and characteristic of recirculation zone with the change of fuel-air mixing degree, the characteristic of methane distribution with equivalence ratio in the combustor respectively. Total heat release rate is increased with increasing equivalence ratio. Thermal Nox is reduced with increasing fuel-air mixing degree. Increasing equivalence ratio results in the decrease of the size of reaction zone and alteration of the position of the reaction zone into the entrance of the combustor.

  • Nitric oxide of gas phase in cigarette smoke was conveniently determined by Chemiluminescence NO analyzer with 20 ports rotary type smoking machine Data are presented to support this observation. On the basis of this method the amount of NO in the smoke from nonblended and commercial cigarettes were estimated. Gas phase NO concentration in main stream smoke was correlated well with the nitrate levels in tobacco leaves, but there was no correlation with the tar yields. In consequence, it would be considered that the methodology in this study provided simple and rapid quantification for NO in cigarette smoke.

  • An experimental study of a dual swirl burner was conducted to analyze NOx emission in the lean conditions. The dual swirl burner is composed of a combination of swirling jet premixed(main section) and diffusion flames(pilot section). It was operated with a co-swirling configuration and overall equivalence ratios between 0.6 and 0.8. The purpose of this study is to analyze experimentally the characterization of flame temperature and NOx concentration in reacting zone and to supply the useful experimental data for numerical simulations. The measurements of temperature and NOx concentration were captured using a thin digitally-compensated thermocouple and a sampling quartz probe with quenching effect of sudden expansion, and were measured by the NOx analyzer of chemiluminescence method. We could analyse the NOx emission characteristics comparing the temperature distributions in the lean equivalence ratios.

  • This is to investigate the methodology for the simultaneous determination of Wk, mk and TSNA using gas chromatography(GC) in combination with chemiluminescence detector, thermal energy analyzer(TEA) . The simultaneous analysis has been estimated by evaluating tobacco. The TEA was linked to GC equipped with non -polar SPB -5 fused silica capillary column which was introduced into the ceramic pyrolysis tube by the point of 16cm from the end of TEA. Quantification was carried out by internal standardization with WDPA after calibration of retention times and response factors with authentic nitrosoamines. It was demonstrated that WDPA was most preferable as internal standard for the simultaneous analysis. The recoveries of the internal standard were in the range of 83∼96% . Nitrosoamines in this method were detected with determination limit of 0.1ng and was made by a straight line in calibration curve by TEA response. The suitability of nitrosoamines extraction in tobacco leaf was investigated. It was most suitable to extract nitrosoamines from tobacco leaves with 0.01 M NaOH within a period of 8 hours. Thimerosal as an antibacterial agent was added to NaOH solution to prevent artifactual formation. The fractionation and the purification of nitrosoamines form alkaline extracts were conveniently performed using Extrelut multilayer column and dichloromethane. Reproducible and reliable results were obtained for the determination of nitrosamines in a relatively short time compared to previous known method. TSNA contents in burley were about 4 times higher as those in the fluecured tobacco.

  • The quantification of ammonia concentrations has received a lot of scientific attention. Numerous devices for the quantification of $NH_3$ in the ambient air have been developed to provide more technical possibilities for research in abating $NH_3$ emission from various source processes. For the proper quantification of $NH_3$, a number of sampling methods have been discussed by grouping them into different categories based on the principle of functioning. In general, active samplers employ pumps to draw air in, while passive samplers are exposed to air over a certain period of time to obtain integrated signature of $NH_3$. In case of the former, impingers and absorption flasks can be employed simultaneously with suitable absorbents to capture $NH_3$ passing through them. The methods of analysis include both in-situ and laboratory determination. In the laboratory, colorimetric or ion chromatographic methods are generally used for its quantification. In the field, a number of real time analyzers have been proven to be useful. These real time analyzers can be grouped according to their principle of operation. These analyzers may use the principle of spectroscopy (e.g. DOAS), photoacousticics (e.g. photoacoustic monitor) or Chemiluminescence ($NO_x$ analyzer). The automated annular denuder sampling system with on-line analyzer is also suitable for continuous monitoring of ammonia in air.
