  • [ $M/Fe_2O_3$ ] (M=Rh, Ce and Zr) mixed oxides were prepared using urea method to develop a medium for chemical hydrogen storage by their redox cycles. And their redox behaviors by repeated cycles were studied using temperature programmed reaction(TPR) technique. Additives such as Rh, Ce and Zr were added to iron oxides in order to lower the reaction temperature for reduction by hydrogen and re-oxidation by water-splitting. From the results, concentration of urea used as a precipitant had little effect on particle size and reduction property of iron oxide. TPR patterns of iron oxide consisted of two reduction peaks due to the course of $Fe_2O_3\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe_3O_4\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe$. The results of repeated redox tests showed that Rh added to iron oxide have an effect on lowering the re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting. Meanwhile, Ce and Zr additives played an important role in prevention of deactivation by repeated cycles. Finally, Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample added with Rh, Ce and Zr showed the lowest re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting and maintained high $H_2$ recovery in spite of the repeated redox cycles. Consequently, it is expected that Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample can be a feasible medium for chemical hydrogen storage using redox cycle of iron oxide.

  • Solid polymer electrolytes were prepared by UV irradiation of the blends consisting of poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO), epoxy diacrylate(EDA) and LiClO_4$. Conductivities of the electrolyte films were measured as a function or blend composition, salt concentration and temperature. The electrolyte having the composition of poly(ethylene oxide) (70% by weight)/epoxy diacrylate (30% by weight) with mole ratio of 10 of ethylene $oxide/Li^+$ exhibited a high ionic conductivity of $1.2{\times}10^{-5} S/cm$ at $25^{\circ}C$. This blend is transparent and shows elastomeric properties. Morphological studies by means of differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction and polarized optical microscopy indicated that the cured epoxy chains in the blends inhibit the crystallization of poly (ethylene oxide) and thereby induce the blend systems to be completely amorphous in certain compositions.

  • In order to find out the radioprotective effect of algin-oligosaccharide, this study, with a mouse of which whole body irradiated by 3 Gy radiation once, measured nitric oxide. In nitric oxide test for observing the reaction of cell inflammation, nitric oxide showed decreased in the irradiation control group, while 3 day's treatment group with algin-oligosaccharide before or after irradiation indicated higher than the irradiation control group, especially showed big difference in 3 day's treatment group before irradiation (P<0.001). Consequently, this study inquired into the fact that algin-oligosaccharide with superior antioxidant activity performed radiation protection by increasing promotion of nitric oxide generation and confirmed that natural product with less chemical toxicity was able to be applied as radioprotector.

  • We have analyzed the double insulating layer consisting of anodic oxide and ZnS through TEM experiments. The use of double insulating layer for HgCdTe surface passivation is one of the promising passivation method which has been recently studied deeply and the double insulating layer is formed by the evaporation of ZnS on the top of anodic oxide layer grown in H$_{2}$O$_{2}$ electrolyte. The structure of anodic oxide layer on HgCdTe is amorphous but the structure of oxide layer after the evaporation of ZnS has been changed to micro-crystalline. The interface layer of 150.angs. thickness has been found between ZnS and anodic oxide layer and is estimated to be ZnO layer. The results of analysis on the chemical components of ZnS, the interface layer and anodic oxide layer have showed that Zn has diffused into the anodic oxide layer deeply while Hg has been significantly decreased from HgCdTe bulk to the top of oxide layer. The formation of ZnO interface layer and the change of structure of anodic oxide layer after the evaporation of ZnS are estimated to be defects or to induce the defects which might possibly affect the increase of the positive fixed charges shown in C-V measurements of HgCdTe MIS.

  • We study and analyze here a novel and simple approach to produce copper oxide nanowires in a methanol as an alternative to chemical synthesis routs and VLS-growth method. First, copper oxide nanowires are grown from copper nanoparticles in methanol at $60^{\circ}C$. Nanoparticles are synthesized via inert gas condensation, one of the dry processes. Synthesized nanowires were confirmed via XRD, FESEM and TEM. As a result, all particles have grown to Cu2O nanowires (20~30 nm in diameter, 5~10 um in length; aspect ratio >160~500). Next, these synthesized oxide nanowires are reduced copper nanowires in the furnace under hydrogen flow at $200{\sim}450^{\circ}C$. The evolution of oxide nanowires and their transformation to copper nanowires is studied as a function of time.

  • Zinc oxide (ZnO) bottom-contact thin-film transistors (TFTs) were prepared by the use of injector type atomic layer deposition. Two hybrid gate oxide systems of different polarity polymers with silicon oxide were examined with the aim of improving the properties of the transistors. The mobility and threshold voltage of a ZnO TFT with a poly(4-dimethylsilyl styrene) (Si-PS)/silicon oxide hybrid gate dielectric had values of 0.41 $cm^2/Vs$ and 24.4 V, and for polyimide/silicon oxide these values were 0.41 $cm^2/Vs$ and 24.4 V, respectively. The good hysteresis property was obtained with the dielectric of hydrophobicity. The solid output saturation behavior of ZnO TFTs was demonstrated with a $10^6$ on-off ratio.

  • A new and useful poly(ethylene oxide)-based pH-sensitive block copolymer is introduced. Poly(ethylene oxide-b-N-phenylmaleimide) was first synthesized by anionic polymerization of N-phenylmaleimide (N-PMI) using mixed alkali metal polymeric alkoxide by sequential monomer addition method in the mixture of benzene/THF/DMSO (10/5/3, v/v/v) at room temperature. Reductive deimidation of the resulting block copolymer was performed using hydrazine monohydrate leading to the formation of the corresponding pH-sensitive poly(ethylene oxide-b-maleic acid).

  • This review summarizes the recent progress in iron-oxide-based heat generators. Cancer treatment using magnetic nanoparticles as a heat generator, termed magnetic fluid hyperthermia, is a promising noninvasive approach that has gained significant interest. Most previous studies on improving the hyperthermia effect have focused on the construction of dopant-containing iron oxides. However, their applications in a clinical application can be limited due to extra dopants, and pure iron oxide is the only inorganic material approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Several factors that influence the heat generation capability of iron-oxide-based nanoparticles are summarized by reviewing recent studies on hyperthermia agents. Thus, our paper will provide the guideline for developing pure iron oxide-based heat generators with high heat dissipation capabilities.
