It is needless to say that America's indiscriminate artillery and chemical attacks have worsened the conditions of Vietnam's tropical rain forests, causing war-torn combat troops and civilians to suffer more from the participation and aftermath of the Vietnam war. Around two decades after the Vietnam War, American and Vietnamese writers dealing with the destruction of the human and nature of the Vietnam War and the following traumatic experience commonly report the horrors of inhumane warfare, but some differences among them appear in the reception of the ecocide consciousness. For American writers who had been involuntarily involved or who had stayed in the back area as interpreters and counter-intelligence force, the Vietnam War was often a kind of exotic "addicted adventure" which their American hometown could not provide. But apart from overcoming postwar post-traumatic stress by writing of healing which was shared with American war writers, Vietnamese writers have been able to overcome the scars of war as the communal memorial, which Jonathan Shay emphasized as the necessary comforting ritual by community members showing the sign of honor and care. On the other hand, American war writers were on the side of "separate peace," as Jeong stressed, and the Vietnam War to them was more racist like the case of "body count." Nevertheless, it is fortunate that the hideous experience of war could turn them all into the creativity pool, just as the 5,000 square mile of bomb creators have been used as the postwar fish ponds.
Subterranean termite attacks on cajuput (Melaleuca cajuputi) seedling roots were widespread in several of Java's Perum Perhutani Forest Management Units. This attack was suspected to be related to the chemical components of the cajunput seedling roots. This study was conducted to determine the bioactivity of cajuput seedling root extract as an attractant for the subterranean termite Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae). The extraction process was performed according to ASTM D1108-96, and the extract was characterized using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Bioactivity testing of the extracts was carried out using attractiveness and no-choice feeding bioassays. The results showed that the average root extraction yield from cajunput seedlings was 4.94%. The attractiveness of the extract solutions at concentrations of 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1.00% were 45.33%, 62.00%, and 74.67%, respectively. The mortality rate of C. curvignathus termites ranged from 9.63% to 24.44%. Cajuput seedling root extract's lethal concentration 50 was 2.45% (non-toxic). GC-MS analysis showed that the extract contained linoleic acid, which has the potential to attract insects.

This paper presents an invetigation into the cause of deterioration of wet surrounding RC structures subjected to checmical attacks such as sewage. The antibacterial-reforming agent is developed after determining the permeability of the RC structure. After application of the anitbacterial-reforming agent through SEM, the permeability, compressive strength properties and the micro-structure of the concrete were evaluated for durability. In addition, the antibacterial-reforming agent was combined with a protective coating for the wet surrounding RC structure and evaluated for durability. The combined effect of the antibacterial-reforming agent and the protective coating were evaluated in field tests in both sewer system and tunnel sites.

In spite of high resistant to corrosion and its strength, over the last two decades, concerns still remain about the durability of FRP materials under severe environmental and thermal exposures. In this paper, authors experimentally examine the combined degradation by thermal and chemical attacks in heterogeneous FRP rebar be made up with various fibers and resins. Five types of Carbon, Glass and Hybrid FRP rebars had manufactured by different process and surface patterns are adopted for the experiments such as weight change, interlaminar shear strength, SEM and FT-IR analysis. FRP specimens were immersed in alkaline or distilled solution up to 150 days and then thermal exposed on 60, 100, 150 and $300^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. From the test results, the degradation of FRP bars are influnced by the resin type and manufacturing process as well as the fiber, and ILSS of exposed FRP bar in solutions is slightly increased in initial stage and then decresed with the passing of immersed time. But, in this test, it is observed that the discrepancy of ILSS between degraded by alkaline solution and distilled water is negligible value.
Kinetic studies of the reactions of N-methyl-Y-${\alpha}$-bromoacetanilides with substituted X-benzylamines have been carried out in dimethyl sulfoxide at $25.0^{\circ}C$. The Hammett plots for substituent X variations in the nucleophiles (log $k_N$ vs ${\sigma}_X$) are slightly biphasic concave upwards/downwards, while the Bronsted plots (log $k_N$ vs $pK_a$) are biphasic concave downwards with breakpoints at X = H. The Hammett plots for substituent Y variations in the substrates (log $k_N$ vs ${\sigma}_Y$) are biphasic concave upwards/downwards with breakpoints at Y = H. The cross-interaction constant $\rho_{XY}$ values are all negative: $\rho_{XY}$ = -0.32 for X = Y = electron-donating; -0.22 for X = electron-withdrawing and Y = electron-donating; -1.80 for X = electron-donating and Y = electronwithdrawing; -1.43 for X = Y = electron-withdrawing substituents. Deuterated kinetic isotope effects are primary normal ($k_H/k_D$ > 1) for Y = electron-donating, while secondary inverse ($k_H/k_D$ < 1) for Y = electronwithdrawing substituent. The proposed mechanisms of the benzylaminolyses of N-methyl-Y-${\alpha}$-bromoacetanilides are a concerted mechanism with a five membered ring TS involving hydrogen bonding between hydrogen (deuterium) atom in N-H(D) and oxygen atom in C = O for Y = electron-donating, while a concerted mechanism with an enolate-like TS in which the nucleophile attacks the ${\alpha}$-carbon for Y = electronwithdrawing substituents.

Spiders detect even tiny vibrations through their vibrational sensory organs. Leveraging their exceptional vibration sensing abilities, they can detect vibrations caused by prey or predators to plan attacks or perceive threats, utilizing them for survival. This paper introduces a nanoscale crack-based sensor mimicking the spider's sensory organ. Inspired by the slit sensory organ used by spiders to detect vibrations, the sensor with the cracks detects vibrations and pressure with high sensitivity. By controlling the depth of these cracks, they developed a sensor capable of detecting external mechanical signals with remarkable sensitivity. This sensor achieves a gauge factor of 16,000 at 2% strain with an applied tensile stress of 10 N. With high signal-to-noise ratio, it accurately recognizes desired vibrations, as confirmed through various evaluations of external force and biological signals (speech pattern, heart rate, etc.). This underscores the potential of utilizing biomimetic technology for the development of new sensors and their application across diverse industrial fields.
Purpose: There have been terrorist attacks all over the world, causing massive damage. In Korea, there are few cases of terrorist damage, but the lack of the on-site response experience lead to constraints on the opportunity to verify capabilities against terrorism. Therefore, in this study, the chemical terrorism on-site countermeasures is considered as a concept of service, it was possible to draw up improvement alternatives for each element by reviewing at once the interactions between the concerned organizations and citizens in the field and the utilization of the equipment and facilities in the invisible area. Results: It had been evaluated the service process of the counterpart manager from the viewpoint of the victim citizen, who is the beneficiary of the final security service. It has found out the waiting point(W.P) between the victim's civilian incident management, and the element of failure(F.P). Conclusion: In this way, comparing chemical terror incident response manuals belonged to each related organization by fusion of service design approach and scenario technique, It is expected that it will be able to find out more specific problems and to find improvement alternatives.

An ICS(industrial control system) is a complex system that safely and efficiently monitors and controls industrial processes such as electric power, water treatment, transportation, automation plants and chemical plants. Because successful cyber attacks targeting ICS can lead to casualties or serious economic losses, it becomes a prime target of hacker groups sponsored by national state. Cyber campaigns such as Stuxnet, Industroyer and TRITON are real examples of successful ICS attacks, and were developed based on the deep knowledge of the target ICS. Therefore, for incident investigation of ICSs, inspectors also need knowledge of control processes and accident investigation techniques specialized for ICSs. Because there is no applicable technology, it is especially necessary to develop techniques and tools for embedded controllers located at cyber and physical boundaries. As the first step in this research, we reviewed logging capability of 4 PLC(Programmable Logic Controller)s widely used in an ICS area, and checked whether selected PLCs generate logs that can be used for digital investigation in the proposed cyber attack scenario.
In recent years, there is growing concern about the potential use of biological agents in war or acts of terrorism accompanied an increased realization that rapid preparedness and response are needed to prevent or treat the human damage that can be caused by these agents. The threat is indeed serious, and the potential for devastating numbers of casualties is high. The use of agents as weapons, even on a small scale, has the potential for huge social and economic disruption and massive diversion of regional and national resources to combat the threat, to treat primary disease, and to clean up environmental contamination. Biological weapons are one of weapons of mass destruction (or mass casualty weapons, to be precise. since they do not damage non-living entities) that are based on bacteria, viruses, rickettsia, fungi or toxins produced by these organisms. Biological weapons are known to be easy and cheap to produce and can be used to selectively target humans, animals, or plants. Theses agents can cause large numbers of casualties with minimal logistical requirements (in wide area). The spread of disease cannot be controlled until there is awareness of the signs of infection followed by identification of agents; and if the organism is easily spread from person to person, as in the case of smallpox, the number of casualties could run into the tens of thousands. Biological weapons could be used covertly, there can be a lot of different deployment scenarios. A lot of different agents could be used in biological weapons. And, there are a lot of different techniques to manufacture biological weapons. Terrorist acts that make use of Biological Agents differ in a number of ways from those involving chemicals. The distinction between terrorist and military use of Biological Weapon is increasingly problematic. The stealthy qualities of biological weapons further complicate the distinction between terrorism and war. In reality, all biological attacks are likely to require an integrated response involving both military and civilian communities. The basic considerations when public health agencies establish national defence plan against bioterrorism must be 1) arraying various laws and regulations to meet the realistic needs, 2)education for public health personnels and support of concerned academic society, 3)information collection and cooperative project with other countries, 4)Detection and surveillance(Early detection is essential for ensuring a prompt response to biological or chemical attack, including the provision of prophylactic medicines, chemical antidotes, or vaccines) and 5) Response(A comprehensive public health response to a biological or chemical terrorist event involves epidemiologic investigation, medical treatment and prophylaxis for affacted persons, and the initiation of disease prevention or environmental decontamination measures). The purpose of this paper is providing basic material of preparedness and response for biological terrorism in modern society.

The present study examined the effect of the silica-based accelerating agents on the setting time and compressive strength gain of biomimetic glycocalix coating materials that has been developed for protecting the substrate of concrete exposed to chemical and microbiological attacks. The accelerating agent contents varied from 10mL/L to 40mL/L in the mixtures of glycocalix coating materials determined for shotcrete and lining techniques. Test results showed that the setting time of coating materials containing accelerating agents was affected by the contents of the bacteria carrier. When the accelerating agent content was 40mL/L, the final setting time was 80 minutes for shotcrete mixtures and 318 minutes for lining mixtures. Meanwhile, the compressive strength gain of coating materials with accelerating agents tended to be lower than that of counterpart materials without accelerating agents.
