The Properties of Aluminium Alloy Powder for Aluminothermy Process with $Mn_3O_4$ Waste Dust ($Mn_3O_4$ 분진의 Al 테르밋 반응용 Al 합금분말의 특성)

  • Aluminium powder as reductant in aluminothermy process needs a fine particle size under 200 mesh, but it is not easy economically to make that because of its high ductility and powder production cost. In order to reduce the production cost of fine aluminum powder as reductant of $Mn_3O_4$ waste dust, therefore, the properties of aluminium alloy powder were investigated. Aluminium alloy ingot containing large amount of manganese can be crushed easily because of its intermetallic compounds having brittle properties. The manganese is also main element in ferro-manganese. We can obtain economically Al-15%Mn alloy powder by mechanical comminution process. And the result of thermite reaction using Al-15% Mn alloy powder instead of pure Al powder showed the fact that can be obtained the ferro-manganese which have a high purity in case of using pure aluminium powder as reductant. The recovery of manganese from $Mn_3O_4$ waste dust with Al-15%Mn alloy powder was higher level of about 70% than about 65% in case of using aluminium powder, that is due to lower spatter loss.

Rheological Properties of Agar Solution from Cheju Seaweed, Gellidium amansii (제주산 우뭇가사리로 부터 추출한 한천용액의 유동특성)

  • To bring out the functional properties of Agar-agar extracted with 0.01N $H_2SO_4$ from Cellidium amansii produced in Che-ju Udo and its rheological properties were investigated. The flow behavior indexes in the range of $0.5\~5\%$ agar-agar solution were $0.62\~0.69\;at\;80^{\circ}C,\;0.46\~0.67\;at\;60^{\circ}C\;and\;0.34\~0.64\;at\;50^{\circ}C$. The consistency indexes were $0.12\~1.26\;Pa{\cdot}s^n\;at\;80^{\circ}C,\;0.12\~7.28\;Pa{\cdot}s^n\;at\;60^{\circ}C\;and\;3.9\~19952.6\;Pa{\cdot}s^n\;at\;50^{\circ}C$. Consistenry index's existence nature to concentration is two straight line relation which have different slopes on the border of $2\%$ concentration of agar-agar solution and existence nature of temperature followed Arrhenius equation. And the activation energy, in the range of $0.5\%\~5\%$ agar-agar solution, were $0.09\~13.51\;kcal/g{\cdot}mol$.

  • To bring out the functional properties of Agar-agar extracted with 0.01N $H_2SO_4$ from Gellidium amansii produced in Che-ju Udo and its fluid properties were investigated. The yield of agar from Gellidium amansii produced was $32.7\%$, the content ratio of agarose and agaropectin was 79 to 21, gelation ability was $0.19\%$ and jelly strength was $413.8\;dyne/cm^2$. Agar-agar solution showed the movement of non-Newtonian fluid and pseudoplastic property was emerged as its concentration go higher. The yield stresses in the range of $0.5\~5\%$ agar-agar solution were $0.09\~1.21\;dyne/cm^2\;at\;80^{\circ}C,\;0.12\~5.29\;dyne/cm^2\;at\;60^{\circ}C\;and\;4.84\~58.37\;dyne/cm^2\;at\;50^{\circ}C$.

Effects of Aspergillus oryzae Inclusion on Corn Silage Fermentation

  • This study is aimed at evaluating the effect of Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract (AFE) on corn silage fermentation characteristics. Trial included two groups of treatments, with or without AFE inclusion in corn ensilage. Sixty corn silage containers, including two treatments with thirty replicates each, were processed in a laboratory scale mini-silo of 21 cm radius by 45 cm height. Three replicate containers were opened and sampled for analysis at 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 18 and 34 days after being ensiled. One silage container from each treatment was installed with a remote controlled electronic thermometer to record the temperature changes. Analysis included silage temperature, pH, fermentation acids, the water-soluble carbohydrates and chemical compositions and the silage protein fractions. Results showed that on the first day, the temperature of the ensiled corn was slightly higher than room temperature, but returned to room temperature on the second day. The pH and concentrations of WSC, ADF, lignin and acetic acid in the AFE treated silage were significantly lower than the control groups (p<0.05). The lactic acid and crude protein on the other hand were significantly higher in the AFE treated silage as compared to the control (p<0.05) at the end of the ensilage period. The DM content was significantly higher (p<0.05) whereas the butyric acid content of the AFE treated silage was significantly lower (p<0.05) than the control at the end of the 34 day ensilage period. Titratable acid and buffering capacity in the corn silage were not significantly different between treatment groups (p>0.05). Ammonia N concentration in the AFE treated silage showed a trend of decrease (p>0.05). NPN and the protein fraction A in both groups increased during the conservation period, but fraction A in the AFE treated corn silage was significantly higher than the control silage (p<0.05). During the conservation period, the AFE treated corn silage showed a trend toward a decrease in fractions $B_1$, $B_3$ and C (p<0.05). The protein fraction B2 showed a trend toward increase in the control group and an inconsistent trend in the AFE treated silage during the ensiling period. The AFE treated silage showed a better Flieg score over the control silage (97 vs. 75) as calculated from the concentrations of lactic acid, acetic acid and butyric acid.

  • The aim of this study is to produce cokes which can be used for the production of ferroalloy, for this purpose, domestic anthracite mixed with plastic was sintered at various condition. The combustion and physical properties of anthracite and plastic, coal separation, and the influence of factors on the strength of coke were investigated. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The three kinds of anthracite from the Samcheok region contained 25 to 30% ash of $100{\mu}m$ over size, and have the caloric value of 5,205 cal/g(TaeAn), 4,893 cal/g(JangSung), 4,873cal/g(KyongDong). 2. The recommendable conditions for heavy-fluid separation of the Samcheok coal are to set the specific gravity of heavy fluid to 2.4 and control the size of coal to $35{\sim}140mesh$. 3. It is concluded that phenolic resin powder, liquefied phenolic resin, SAN, and melamine resin can be used as a binder for the anthracite cokes, from the thermal analysis of various plastics. Especially, the liquefied phenolic resin was considered as the most suitable binder as it would simplify the process.

A Study for Prevalence of Pain and Bony Changes of the Elbow in Baseball Players (야구 선수 주관절의 통증과 골 변화에 대한 유병률 조사)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the aspect of occurrence and transition of the elbow injuries in baseball players from childhood to adult. Materials and Methods: We had a survey and took the simple X-ray from the anteroposterior view and the lateral view of both elbows for subjects of total 320 baseball players. - each of 80 players in elementary school, middle school, high school, and professional baseball players between January and December in 2004. Results: The region of pain and the bony changes in elbow were the most frequent in medial side from all the groups of players. Especially, hypertrophy of medial epicondyle were the most numerous. As baseball players got older, the radiological changes of elbow were increased. The bony changes were found out 52 cases (65%) of the elementary school players, 66 cases (82%) of the middle school players, 68 cases (85%) of the high school players and 70 cases (88%) of the professional players out of the total 320 baseball players. Conclusion: The bony changes of the elbow in baseball players got frequent as they were getting older and increased in comparison with past.

  • This study monitored Daecheong 1-bo, Daecheong-stream, which carried out the project in 2014, from 2015 to 2016. The technology applied to the stream was evaluated using Periphytic Algae to check contamination indicators and ecological health of the area with an integral river-bed protection using non-toxic materials. The water quality of the monitoring section was confirmed to be above the river environment standard (II), and it was confirmed that the Saproxenic taxa of the river bed protection were higher than the upper and downstream sections. The TDI, which is an index of attachment algae, was shown in the average 51.03 and 52.15 for the pilot project sections in 2015 and 2016, confirming that the index is of the "normal" grade. This is the other sections in the upstream and downstream sections showed higher than "bad", which is thought to have a positive effect on the habitat of the river ecosystem components, especially the microbial population in river bed protection.

  • Annual reproductive cycle of small yellow croaker, Larimichthys polyactis were histologically investigated based on samples captured nearby the coast around Chujado, Youngkwang and Kanghwa, South Korea from February $2004{\sim}February$,2005. By histological survey, the annual reproductive cycle was classified into the following successive stages: The primary growth stage from September to October, the second growth stage from October to December, the mature stage from January to April, the final mature, ovulation and spawning stage from May to June, the degeneration stage from June to July and the rest stage from August to September. Throughout anatomical observation of the ovary, it is found that the small yellow croaker, L. polyactis belongs to an asynchronous and multiple spawner from late spring to early summer.

Extraction Yields of Hizikia fusiforme by Solvents and Their Antimicrobial Effects (추출 용매에 따른 톳 추출물의 수율 및 항균성 검정)

  • Extraction yields of Hizikia fusiforme with four kinds of solvents and $0{\sim}90\%$ ethanol solutions, and antimicrobial activities of the extracts against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Alternaria sp. were investigated. Determination of extraction yield with several solvents showed the highest value, $33\%$ (wt/wt), when distilled water was used. However, the extraction yields by hexane, ethyl ether and ethanol were less than $1\%$ (wt/wt). When dried Hizikia fusiforme was extracted at various concentrations of ethanol, 0 to $50\%$ solution gave similar yields and the extraction yields decreased rapidly as the ethanol concentrations increased above $70\%$, Ethanol-extract demonstrated antimicrobial activities against E. coli and B. subtilis, and ethyl ether- and hexane-extracts against E. coli. 70 and $90\%$ ethanol-extracts had potent antimicrobial activities against E. coli, and B. subtilis.

  • Objectives : The Purpose of this study is to report in patient with common peroneal nerve palsy, who improved by oriental medical treatament. Methods : We Checked the temperature of a leg by Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(DITI) at intervals of 10 days, angle of active dorsiflexion and range of active motion for estimating the improvement of symptoms. We used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) for estimating the degree of pain, too. Results : After 4 weeks treatment, the movement and power of ankle joint improved to nearly normal range. The degree of active dorsiflexion of the ankle increased from $-40^{\circ}\;to\;15^{\circ}$ and range of active motion increased from Gr III to Gr I. The difference of temperature between the both legs decreased remarkably. Conclusion : In this case we experienced improvement of symptoms by conservative oriental medical therapy, e.g acupuncture stimulation, herbal medication, physical therapy. It should be needed further investigation on common peroneal nerve palsy and its symptoms in order to set up a reasonable standard about a surgical operation.
