The Study on Sasangin's Characteristics of Elementary School Students (초등학생을 대상으로 한 사상인 성격의 설문분석)

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics about the Sasang constitution of elementary school students based on the questions that have significant differences. 2. Methods 146 children who have visited Kang-Nam Kyung-Hee Oriental Hospital Sasang constitution center from Mar. 2003 to May. 2005, were investigated through the questionnaires. These have the categories of personality and emotional characteristics, personal relationship, playing and the way to handle things such as jobs or missions, behavioral characteristics, and etc., were analyzed statistically. 3. Results and Conclusions (1) In the category of the 'Personality and Emotional characteristics', significantly more Soeumin showed positive answers to the question, 'being easily nervous and get irritated' than the other groups, and significantly more Taeumin to the question, 'considerate and thoughtful' than Soyangin. (2) In the category of the 'Personal relationship', there were significantly more Soyangin who showed positive answer to the question 'making a friend easily' than the other groups. (3) In the category of the 'playing and the way to handle things', significantly more Soeumin showed positive answer to the question, 'love to do the exercise' than Soyangin, and significantly more Soeumin showed positive answer to the question, 'not careful and meticulous' than Soyangin, and significantly more Soeumin showed positive answer to the question, 'like to read books' than Taeumin. (4) In the category of the 'Behavioral characteristics', significantly more Soyangin showed positive answer to the question, 'unable to concentrate just one thing even for just a minute and keep on moving.' than the other groups, and significantly more Soyangin showed positive answer to the question, 'act or response quick.' than Taeumin, and significantly more Soyangin showed positive answer to the question, 'behave and go around restlessly and flighty' than Soeumin, and significantly more Taeumin showed the positive answer to the question, 'hate to move by oneself' than Soyangin.

Experimental Analysis of Correct Answer Characteristics in Question Answering Systems (질의응답시스템에서 정답 특징에 관한 실험적 분석)

  • One of the factors that have the greatest influence on the error of the question answering system that finds and provides answers to natural language questions is the step of searching for documents or passages that contain correct answers. In order to improve the retrieval performance, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of documents and passages containing correct answers. This paper experimentally analyzes how many question words appear in the correct answer documents, how the location of the question word is distributed, and how the topic of the question and the correct answer document are similar using the corpus composed of the question, the documents with correct answer, and the documents without correct answer. This study explains the causes of previous search research results for question answer system and discusses the necessary elements of effective search step.

Analysis of Questions in the 'Matter' Units of Elementary Science Textbooks under the 7th Curriculum (제7차 초등학교 과학 교과서 물질 영역에 제시된 발문 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the questions in the 'Matter' units of elementary science textbooks under the 7th curriculum. For the analysis, a total of 338 questions were extracted from 15 units. Six criteria (recalling, recognizing, predictive, applied, divergent, and evaluative question) were reconstructed for textbook question analysis based on Blosser(1973)'s question category system for science. The results were as follows. First, there were more closed (recalling, recognizing, predictive, or applied) questions (72.2%) than open (divergent or evaluative) questions (27.8%) in elementary science textbooks. Second, cognitive-memory (recalling or recognizing) question type was the most frequently asked in all grade levels. Open (divergent or evaluative) questions increased according to grade level whereas convergent (predictive or applied) questions decreased. Third, question types were applied based on the characteristics of each unit rather than on children's developmental characteristics. Educational implications were discussed based on the results.

Analysis of Characteristics of Question Generated in Learning Science by Presenting Method of Question Phenomena (의문 상황 제시 방법에 따라 과학 학습에서 생성된 의문의 특성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the proper methods of presenting question materials for generate of various question by comparing type, level, objectivity, manipulation of question in the presenting methods of question phenomena. I selected and showed actual objects, movies, and photographs as ways of presenting question materials, to each of which three question tasks were assigned. The generated questions by students were compared. The results showed that the question of conjectural, predictive, methodological, exploratory, verificational, qualitative, quantitative, simple-manipulative, pre-manipulative questions turned out to have significantly higher average frequencies in the cases of the presentation of photographs and movies than in the cases of the presentation of actual objects. However, the question of post-manipulative questions turned out to have significantly higher average frequencies in the cases of the presentation of actual objects than in the cases of the presentation of photographs and movies. and There were no significant differences between individual methods of question task presentation in average frequencies with respect to causal and methodological, subjective questions. Thus, we have learned from this that methods of presenting question phenomena had influence on the students' question. This suggests that we should consider forms of presentation of question materials in planning the teaching-learning of question.

A Statstical Analysis of the Question Categories concerning 'Sasang Constitutional Characteristics of Mind' (성격 특성에 관한 체질판별 문진항목의 통계적 분석)

  • Objectives : To evaluate the properness and effectiveness of the question categories concerning 'sasang constitutional characteristics of mind', used in Iksan Wonkwang Oriental Medicine. Methods : We statistically analyzed data from those 1335 patients focussing on 'relative discrimination ability' to sasang constructions and 'response ratio'. Patients included in this research are only those who had been well treated in Iksan Wonkwang Oriental Medicine during the Period of three years from 2000 to 2002. The data are obtained through the electronic chart developed by Kim Jong-Yeal, and analyzed using the statistical Package SPSS. Results: In total characteristics of mind, the question category of 'timid' has high discriminating power and effectiveness to Soeum type, more in women than men, and especially with an age of 21 or more; The category of 'hasty-tempered' to Soyang type in women with all ages and men with ages 21-40; The category of 'broad-minded' to Taeum type with ages 41 or more; The category of 'timid and broad-minded' to Soyang type, and especially high to women with ages 41 or more. Question categories concerning response type in anger were estimated to have different response patterns to sasang constructions only for ages 21 or more by $X^2$2 test. The question category of 'bear and last long' has high discriminating power and effectiveness to Soeum type, more in men than women, and increasingly to ages; The category of 'impatient and disarmed quickly' to Soyang type in both women and men, especially with ages 21 or more; The category of 'impatient' to Soyang type women or with ages 21 or more. Other categories have low discriminating power or low effectiveness. Concernig expression type of one's thought, the question category of 'straightly' has high discriminating power and effectiveness to Soyang type, more in wemen than men, and especially to ages 21 or more; The category of 'tender' to Soeum type, in women or with ages 40 or less; The category of 'indirectly' to Taeum type in men or with ages 41 or more; The category of 'straightly and stuborn' to Soyang type with ages 41 or more; The category of 'indirectly and tender' to Soeum with with ages 20 or less; The category of 'not express and tender' to Soeum type with ages 41 or more; Conclusions : Question categories concerning total characteristics of mind, response type in anger and expression type of one's thought, are partially discriminating and effective to specific constitution according to sex and ages, and some categories are more discriminating and effective when they are composited. But generally, the discriminating power of Taeum constitution group and group with ages 20 or less was too low, so it is necessary to develope question categories for those groups.

  • Question taxonomy is one of main approaches to understand the questioner's information need so that we can assign relevant answerers to the question submitted by the user. The goal of this study is to investigate question taxonomy of question and answering services, which are available online and in libraries and understand the characteristics of question answering services by type. In order to achieve the goal, this study examines the types of questions appeared in literature, specifically focusing on social reference, question answering systems, and reference services, and then provides a summary of question taxonomy found in question answering services.

  • In this paper, we describe a deep analysis of question for question answering system. It is difficult to offer the correct answer because general question answering systems do not analyze the semantic of user's natural language question. We analyze user's question semantically and extract semantic features using the semantic feature extraction grammar and characteristics of natural language question. They are represented as semantic features and grammatical morphemes that consider semantic and syntactic structure of user's questions. We evaluated our approach using 100 questions whose answer type is a person in the web. We showed that a deep analysis of questions which are comparatively short but enough to mean can analysis the user's intention and extract semantic features.

Affection-enhanced Personalized Question Recommendation in Online Learning

  • With the popularity of online learning, intelligent tutoring systems are starting to become mainstream for assisting online question practice. Surrounded by abundant learning resources, some students struggle to select the proper questions. Personalized question recommendation is crucial for supporting students in choosing the proper questions to improve their learning performance. However, traditional question recommendation methods (i.e., collaborative filtering (CF) and cognitive diagnosis model (CDM)) cannot meet students' needs well. The CDM-based question recommendation ignores students' requirements and similarities, resulting in inaccuracies in the recommendation. Even CF examines student similarities, it disregards their knowledge proficiency and struggles when generating questions of appropriate difficulty. To solve these issues, we first design an enhanced cognitive diagnosis process that integrates students' affection into traditional CDM by employing the non-compensatory bidimensional item response model (NCB-IRM) to enhance the representation of individual personality. Subsequently, we propose an affection-enhanced personalized question recommendation (AE-PQR) method for online learning. It introduces NCB-IRM to CF, considering both individual and common characteristics of students' responses to maintain rationality and accuracy for personalized question recommendation. Experimental results show that our proposed method improves the accuracy of diagnosed student cognition and the appropriateness of recommended questions.

(2) In the category of the 'Physical Characteristics', significantly more Soeumin and Soyangin showed positive answer to the question, 'Thin in some degree' than Taeumin, and significantly more Taeumin showed positive answer to the question, 'Fat in some degree' than the other groups, and significantly more Taeumin showed positive answer to the question, 'Bulging belly' than the Soeumin. (3) In the category of 'Eating Habit', significantly more Soeumin, Soyangin answered positively to 'eating little food(light eating)' than Taeumin, and more Taeumin showed positive answer to 'a lot of food uptake' than the other groups, and significantly more Soeumin to 'eating slowly' than Taeumin, in contrast, significantly more Taeumin showed positive answer to 'eating food in haste and hurry' than the Soeumin, and significantly more Soeumin showed positive answer to the question, 'unwillingness to eat vegetable' than Soyangin, and significantly more Soeumin showed that to the question, 'unbalanced diet' than the other groups, significantly more Taeumin showed positive answer to 'preference for fatty food' than the other groups.

The Analysis of Students' Pre-inquire related to Elementary Science Curriculum Contents (초등과학 학습내용과 관련된 학생의 사전질문 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to collect and analyze the student's pre-inquire and to obtain information on how to use the teaching-learning process. The specific research problem is to confirm the level of the student's pre-inquire, to identify the characteristics of each type, and to check what pre-inquire can be used in the teaching-learning process. The research was conducted on 149 children in the $3^{rd}$ and $4^{th}$ grade of elementary school, and collected a total of 2,034 inquires. As a result of analyzing three times, the students' pre-inquires accounted for 90% of Level 2 and Level 3, which are the inquires that give meaningful answers in the teaching-learning process. These results show that the pre-inquires presented before the students take up the new lesson are not low-level inquires and they can present meaningful inquires that can be used for teaching-learning. Next, as a result of analyzing the student's inquire by type, the factual question was the largest with 50%, followed by comprehension question, procedural question, application question, and prediction question. The factual and procedural questions showed that they could be used as learning activities during the teaching-learning process. Comprehension questions included in the wonderment question can be used as a learning question. And the application question is a question that can be applied to deepening activities, and the prediction question can be used in the inquiry and experiment process of learning activities.
