  • The stress induced leakage currents of thin silicon oxides is investigated in the VLSI implementation of a self learning neural network integrated circuits using a linearity synapse transistor. The channel current for the thickness dependence of stress current, transient current, and stress induced leakage currents has been measured in oxides with thicknesses between 41 ${\AA}$, 86${\AA}$, which have the channel width ${\times}$ length 10 ${\times}$1${\mu}$m, 10 ${\times}$0.3${\mu}$m respectively. The stress induced leakage currents will affect data retention in synapse transistors and the stress current, transient current is used to estimate to fundamental limitations on oxide thicknesses. The synapse transistor made by thin silicon oxides has represented the neural states and the manipulation which gaves unipolar weights. The weight value of synapse transistor was caused by the bias conditions. Excitatory state and inhitory state according to weighted values affected the channel current. The stress induced leakage currents affected excitatory state and inhitory state.

Fault Current Characteristics of a Bi-2223 Tape (Bi-2223테이프의 사고전류 특성)

  • Temperature and resistance of a Bi-2223 tape for fault currents up to 10 $I_{c}$ were measured in two types of samples taking into account real applications. The results indicate that the Bi-2223 tape is safe from burn-out for fault currents with a few cycles up to 10 I$_{c}$. For fault currents of over an order of magnitude higher than the nominal current, the temperature of the Bi-2223 tape depends strongly on fault durations.s.

  • A characteristic mode analysis of parallel-plate waveguide with finite number of slot as a leaky wav eantenna structure is considered for calculating the characteristics currents, the characteristic patterns, radiatin patterns, and the complex propagation constants. For the cases of 1, 11 and 29 slots, numericl resutls for the equivalent magnetic currents, the radiatin patterns, and thecomplex propagation constants are computed and compared with those obtained by use of the conventional method of moments. Good correspondence between them is observed.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive reclosing scheme which is based on the classification of fault patterns. In case that the first reclosing is unsuccessful in distribution system employing with two-shot reclosing scheme, the proposed method can determine whether the second reclosing will be attempted of not. If the first reclosing is unsuccessful two fault currents can be measured before the second reclosing is attempted, where these two fault currents are utilized for an adaptive reclosing scheme. Total harmonic distortion and RMS are used for extracting the characteristics of two fault currents. And the pattern of two fault currents is respectively classified using a mountain clustering method a minimum-distance classifier. Mountain clustering method searches the cluster centers using the acquired past data. And minimum-distance classifier is used for classifying the measured two currents into one of the searched centers respectively. If two currents have the different pattern it is interpreted as temporary fault. But in case of the same pattern, the occurred fault is interpreted as permanent. The proposed method was tested for the fault data which had been measured in KEPCO's distribution system, and the test results can demonstrate the effectiveness of the adaptive reclosing scheme.

  • Malfunction and nuisance tripping of molded case circuit breaker(MCCB) caused by harmonic currents have been reported. But no data is available on the behavior of MCCB under harmonic currents. This paper tested the effects of harmonic currents on four common types of MCCB(thermal, thermal magnetic, magnetic and electronic types). Results of experiment detected no nuisance tripping with any of the breakers tested under test currents, included harmonic current, below rated currents. Additionally it was found that varying harmonic loading conditions did not affect manufacturer specified trip times for thermal only and thermal magnetic circuit breakers. However, under overloaded conditions, trip times of the magnetic only circuit breakers were gradually slowed according to increasing of harmonic currents, and it could cause hazardous overheating of cables. So, the use of magnetic only circuit breakers in the place harmonic currents we serious must be avoided.

  • Fault currents characteristics contain decaying DC offset. First cycle peak value of fault currents is higher than steady-state fault current value. These characteristics can affect the operation of protective device. To reduce the asymmetric fault current, the method using a series connection of two hybrid-type Superconducting Fault Current Limiter(SFCL) components, an auxiliary SFCL and a main SFCL, has been proposed. The auxiliary SFCL limits the first half cycle fault current, while main SFCL limits the steady state fault currents. This paper proposed a decision method of the optimal insertion resistance of auxiliary and main SFCL components. To verify the effectiveness of proposed scheme, the various simulations are performed by using Electromagnetic Transient Program(EMTP).

Theory and Experiment for Electromagnetic Shaft Current in Rotating Machinery

  • Electrical damages to critical parts in rotating machinery have caused many machinery failures and hours of costly downtime. The problem of shaft currents generated in non-electrical machines has puzzled both users and manufacturers of these machines. The main solution for preventing electromagnetic type damage is to demagnetize all of the machinery parts, however this is costly and time consuming. Therefore a thorough investigation into the causes and physical characteristics of electromagnetic shaft currents is needed. In this paper, the self excitation theory was developed far a simple model, an axial flux Faraday disk machine surrounded by a long solenoid. Experimental tests were conducted to investigate the physical characteristics on an electromagnetic self excitation rig. The theory showed that the directions of both the shaft rotation and the coil turns should be identical if self excitation is to occur. From the tests, the electromagnetic type shaft current had both AC and DC components occurred at all vibration frequencies. This could point to a way to detect small instabilities or natural frequency locations by monitoring shaft currents.

  • The I-V characteristics of the n-channel offset gated poly-Si TETs have been systematically investigated in order to analyse the effects of offset region. The on currents are reduced due to the series resistance by the offset length and there is no kink phenomenon in offset devices. The off currents of the offset gated TFTs are remarkably reduced to 10$^{-12}$ A independent of gate and drain voltage because the electric field is weakened by the increase of the depletion region width near the drain region. It is shown that the offset regions behave as a series resistance and reduce lateral and vertical electric field.

  • AC loss is an important issue in the design of high-$T_c$ superconducting power cables which consist of a number of Bi-2223 tapes wound on a former. In the cables, the tapes have different critical currents intrinsically. And they are electrically connected to each other and current leads. In this work we have prepared a conductor composed of three Bi-2223 tapes with different critical currents. The critical current characteristics in the conductor have experimentally investigated. The results show that for uniform current distributions the conductor's critical current is proportional to the critical current of the Bi-2223 tape to which a voltage lead is attached. However it depends on the current non-uniformity parameter in the conductor rather than the tape's critical currents for nonuniform current distributions.
