  • The study examined that parents and teachers were aware of what extents behavioral characteristics were related to the children's voice problems. The voice samples of 89 children in the ages of 3 to 5 were collected and their voice quality were graded by G scale of GRBAS. The parents and teachers of the children were asked to complete the questionnaire composed of the pediatric Voice Handicap Index (pVHI) and the psycho- and voice behavioral characteristics of their children. The results are as follows. First, there were no significant differences in both pVHI and behavioral characteristics of their children by G scale. However, significant differences were shown in the behavioral characteristics between parents and teachers, but no difference in pVHI between them. In addition, there was a significant correlation between the psycho-behavioral characteristics and the voice behavioral characteristics in both parents and teachers. These results represent that parents and teachers are not aware of the presence of their children's voice problems and such voice problems are affected by behavioral characteristics associated with the use of voice.

  • Objectives: This study is to examine that drinking problems among university students were accounted for not only by student's individual characteristics but alcohol policy and environmental characteristics of the university in which students were enrolled. Method: Secondary data analysis was employed in which variables under study were derived from a raw data of a nationwide representative sample in 2009. Raw data under analysis included 3,665 students from 63 universities across Korea. Organizational and environmental characteristics of the university were collected from university administrators while individual characteristics and drinking behavior from the students in using self-administrated questionnaire. Multilevel regression analyses were employed to describe alcohol policy effects on students's drinking problems measured by AUDIT by using HLM7.0. Results: ICCs indicate that variation in drinking problem depends on alcohol policy of university. Multilevel regression models identified statistically significant factors in explaining variance of drinking problems. Group means on drinking problem are affected by indicators representing alcohol policy with level of drinking problem of student being decreased in accordance to level of availability of alcohol on campus. Conclusions: It is concluded that drinking problems among university students were associated with both individual characteristics and alcohol policy of the university they enrolled. This study supports policy belief that interventions at environmental as well as individual level are required to prevent drinking problem among university students.

Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted in order to determine the extent to which characteristics of ACOA affected on psychosocial problems. As a results, psychological characteristics of ACOA were significantly associated with them after controlling for the correlates of family structure, level of family functioning, and parental alcoholism. In addition, two group of ACOA were created on the basis of scores of ACAST. • The purpose of this study was to investigate vocal hygiene habits and Korean Voice-Related Quality of Life (K-VRQOL) among classical singers. A total of 128 classical singers filled an online voice and K-VRQOL questionnaire, and the results were analyzed. In order to investigate the characteristics of K-VRQOL according to age groups, and the presence or absence of a history of voice problems, we conducted a two-way ANOVA. The results are as follows. Of the 128 classical singers, 28 (21.9%) with a history of voice problems said that excessive conversation, singing practice, and yelling were the causes of their voice problems. The symptoms of voice problems were fatigue, loss of range, hoarseness, and breathiness. In addition, classical singers were less likely to smoke, or to drink alcohol or caffeine. The K-VRQOL was highly correlated with all sub-domains. There was a statistically significant difference according to age groups (p<.05) and history of voice problems (p<.01). There was no correlation between age groups and history of voice problems. Voice management is important because classical singers can ruin their voice by speaking, and the risk of voice disorder is high. Voice problems affect quality of life. In future studies, it is necessary to obtain information on the subjective voice characteristics of classical singers by examining the relationship between their voice hygiene habits and VHI, SVHI, and K-VRQOL.
