  • In this paper, a minimum Euclidian distance criterion between error PDF and Dirac delta function is introduced and a constant modulus type blind equalizer algorithm based on the criterion is proposed. The proposed algorithm using constant modulus error in place of actual error term of the criterion has superior convergence and steady state MSE performance, and the error signal of the proposed algorithm exhibits more concentrated density function in blind equalization environments. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method can be a reliable candidate for blind equalizer algorithms for multipoint communications.

  • This paper proposes dual symbol superposition block carrier transmission with frequency domain equalization (DSS-FDE) system. This system is based upon χ-transform matrix, which is obtained by concatenation of discrete Hartley transform (DHT) matrix and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrices into single matrix that is remarkably sparse, so that, as it will be shown in this paper, it only has non-zero entries on its principal diagonal and one below the principle anti-diagonal, giving it shape of Latin alphabet χ. When multiplied with constellation mapped complex transmit vector, each entry of resultant vector is weighted superposition of only two entries of original vector, as opposed to all entries in conventional DFT based OFDM. Such a transmitter is close to single carrier block transmission with frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE), which is known to have no superposition. The DSS-FDE offers remarkable simplicity in transmitter design and yields great benefits in reduced complexity and low PAPR. At receiver-end, it offers the ability to harvest full diversity from multipath fading channel, full coding gain, with significant bit error rate (BER) improvement. These results will be demonstrated using both analytical expressions, as well as simulation results. As will be seen, this paper is Part III of three-paper series on alternative transforms for multicarrier communication (MC) systems.

  • The criterionmaximizing cross-correntropy (MCC) of two different random variables has yielded superior performance comparing to mean squared error criterion. In this paper we present a complex-valued blind equalizer algorithm for QAM and complex channel environments based on cross-correntropy criterion which uses, as two variables, equalizer output PDF and Parzen PDF estimate of a self-generated symbol set. Simulation results show significantly enhanced performance of symbol-point concentration with no phase rotation in complex-channel communication.

  • For the purpose of LAN or data transmission line design with high speed and reliability using power lines, in this paper, we present CSK/SS-DS signal transmission characteristics simulations with changing channel characteristics due to impedance fluctuation. And we also simulated the signal transmissions with a strong impulsive burst noise and with a gaussian random noise. We introduce a simple channel equalization filtering method that solves the synchronization problem of CSK/SS-DS with fluctuating channel characteristics or low S/N ratio.

  • This paper presents and analyzes laboratory test results of Equalization Digital On-Channel Repeater (EDOCR) using ATSC(Advanced Television Systems Committee) terrestrial digital TV broadcasting system. The EDOCR laboratory test, which is done at CRC(Communications Research Centre) Canada, is classified to receiver test, transmitter test, and synchronization test between transmission and reception frequencies. The receiver part includes feedback signal, random noise, single echo, multi-path ensemble, and NTSC/DTV interference test. The transmitter part includes out-of channel emission, quality of transmitting signal, and phase noise test. By the field test results, the receiver part of the EDOCR eliminates average 5.5 dB of feedback or single echo signal in range of 0 to 11 ${\mu}s$ and has average 18.6 dB at TOV(Threshold of Visibility) under random noise environment. Also, the transmitter part of the EDOCR satisfies the specification of US FCC(Federal Communications Commission), and frequency difference between transmitter and receiver is zero.

  • In this study, a modified Fuzzy C-Means algorithm with Gaussian weights (MFCM_GW) is presented for the problem of nonlinear blind channel equalization. The proposed algorithm searches for the optimal channel output states of a nonlinear channel based on received symbols. In contrast to conventional Euclidean distance in Fuzzy C-Means (FCM), the use of the Bayesian likelihood fitness function and the Gaussian weighted partition matrix is exploited in this method. In the search procedure, all possible sets of desired channel states are constructed by considering the combinations of estimated channel output states. The set of desired states characterized by the maxima] value of the Bayesian fitness is selected and updated by using the Gaussian weights. After this procedure, the Bayesian equalizer with the final desired states is implemented to reconstruct transmitted symbols. The performance of the proposed method is compared with those of a simplex genetic algorithm (GA), a hybrid genetic algorithm (GA merged with simulated annealing (SA):GASA), and a previously developed version of MFCM. In particular, a relative]y high accuracy and a fast search speed have been observed.

  • In this paper, a selective coefficient updating (SCU) approach at each branch of the per-tone equalization (PTEQ) structure has been applied for insufficient cyclic prefix (CP) length. Because of the high number of adaptive filters and their complex adaption process in the PTEQ structure, SCU has been proposed. Using this method leads to a reduction in the computational complexity, while the performance remains almost unchanged. Moreover, the use of set-membership filtering with variable step size is proposed for a sufficient CP case to increase convergence speed and decrease the average number of calculations. Simulation results show that despite the aforementioned algorithms having similar performance in comparison with conventional algorithms, they are able to reduce the number of calculations necessary. In addition, compensation of both the channel effect and the transmitter/receiver in-phase/quadrature-phase imbalances are achievable by these algorithms.

  • Blind equalization techniques have been used in broadcast and multipoint communications. In this paper, two criteria of minimizing Euclidian distance between two probability density functions (PDFs) for adaptive blind equalizers are presented. For PDF calculation, Parzen window estimator is used. One criterion is to use a set of randomly generated desired symbols at the receiver so that PDF of the generated symbols matches that of the transmitted symbols. The second method is to use a set of Dirac delta functions in place of the PDF of the transmitted symbols. From the simulation results, the proposed methods significantly outperform the constant modulus algorithm in multipath channel environments.
