A fast-changing agriculture environment induced by global warming and abnormal climate conditions demands scientific systems for monitoring and predicting crop conditions as well as crop yields at national level. Remote sensing opens up a new application field for precision agriculture with the help of commercial use of high resolution optical as well as radar satellite data. In this study, we investigated the multi-temporal spectral characteristics relative to different agricultural land use types in Korea using RapidEye satellite imagery. There were explicit differences between vegetation and non-vegetation land use types. Also, within the vegetation group spectral vegetation indices represented differences in temporal changing trends as to plant species and paddy types.

As social environment of Korea was changing, the cremation is increased instead of traditional funeral culture. Therefore woodland burial appears new funeral culture in Korea. This research had been executed to find out the problem of soil and vegetation environments of woodland burial forest. The case study was worked at woodland burial in Incheon Family funeral services which was national pilot project. The problem of soil and vegetation environments were surveyed in slope, soil compaction, actual vegetation, vegetation communities, structure of forest communities and so on. The results from this study indicate that woodland burial construction didn't consider the damage and management of vegetation environment in Incheon Family funeral Services. Problems for the Law on funeral facilities of Korea is a lack of natural friendly standards for slope, management on structure of forest communities, facilities for users in it. It had steep topography, soil compaction, reduction of species diversity and poor plant growth on woodland burial in Incheon Family funeral Services. Therefore the users of it increase in the future, vegetation environment of woodland burial will be devastated. And so we need to improve standards of woodland burial construction and management to settle down burial culture of woodland burial in Korea.
The NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index) dataset is unique or main tool to assess the global, multi seasonal, multi annual, and multi spectral changes over the World. These features are useful for environmental studies in particular, for the vegetation coverage monitoring of the country as Mongolia, where are large pastureland and pastoral animal husbandry, which dependent on natural conditions. Pasture vegetation cover is changing accordingly with both of global climate change and anthropogenic effect or human impacts. Using past 20 years (1982-2001) NDVI derived from NOAA satellite, its dynamical trend has been decreased in all natural zones differently. Also applied the method named "Two Years Differences" which could calculate the number of years with increased or decreased NDVI values at the same place. From May to September have occurred the 9 years maximum decreases of NDVI over Mongolia, but it obtained differently in spatial and temporal scale. In 24.4 ? 32.7% of all territory occurred one year decrease of NDVI and in 18% occurred more than 3 years frequent decrease of NDVI. According to the linear trend of NDVI and in 18% occurred more than 3 years frequent decrease of NDVI dynamics over 69% of whole territory of Mongolia NDVI values had been decreased due to both natural and human induced impacts to the pasture condition. In this paper also included some results of the integrated analyses of NOAA/NDVI and ground truth data over Monglia separately by natural zones.
This study was conducted as a restoration research in a mountain stream of hydrologic cycle system, which is a type of microsites purposely changing vegetation. The status of vegetation in the three experimental sites, water purification site, small dammed pole site, and aquatic plant restoration site, and one control site within the area of the mountain forest stream were investigated in three different periods, namely before sites restoration, year of sites restoration, and year after sites restoration. After one year of restoration, number of vegetation was increased in the small dammed pool and control site respectively. Vegetation coverage ratio of Zizania latifolia was increased at the water purification area. The effects of habitats restoration appeared to be good a year after the restoration of the experimental sites, in terms of families and species composition of the introduced vegetation, and stream flow. Therefore, the results of the study strongly suggest that fairly effective ways to restore and reproduce degrading mountain hydroecological habitats are by way of forming pool sites and small dams in intermittent mountain streams and re-vegetating with selected plants.

Aeolian dunes are typical sand dunes which are maintained and developed by interactions of earth surface, wind and vegetation. Developing a model which can predict the changing phenomena of these sand dunes is vital in enhancing the efficiency of understanding and management of terrains such as land degradation. In the existing models, however, there is lack of studies on the long - term behaviors of the sand dunes and application to actual topography. Therefore, this study applied the wind-vegetation model considering vegetation to the actual topography and analyzed the applicability of the wind-vegetation model by analyzing the long-term behaviors and comparing them with actual data. Through analysis, study found out that use of wind-vegetation model and data from unmanned aerial vehicle is effective in analyzing the changes of actual dune topography. Except for the boundary, the error of about 1m was generated compared with the change of the actual dune topography.
The study examined the influence of climate and soil dynamics on vegetation health across the ecological zones in Rivers State, Nigeria. MODIS imagery was used to assess the vegetation health through NDVI and point grid pattern of meteorological data for total precipitation (TP), air temperature (AT), soil moisture (SM) and soil temperature (ST) of 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2015 were used for the study. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Findings showed that NDVI ranged between 0.420 and 0.612 in the freshwater swamp (FWS) while between 0.465 and 0.611 in the rainforest and the NDVI in the mangrove was generally low. The highest mean AT was experienced in the mangrove ecological zone and the least was experienced in the rainforest. The mean SM was generally highest in the rainforest with highest value in 2000 (774.44 m3/m3). The ST was highest in the mangrove and the least was experienced in the rainforest while the TP was highest in the mangrove. NDVI correlated significantly with SM (r=0.720; p<0.05) and ST (r= -0.493; p<0.05). NDVI, SM, TP and ST significantly varied among the ecological zones. Regression analysis showed that vegetation health was significantly related to the combination of soil temperature and soil moisture (R2=0.641; p=0.000). Thus, monitoring the factors that affect vegetation health in a changing climate and soil environments is highly required.
Shoreline armoring is a globally used engineering strategy to prevent shoreline erosion along stream, lake and reservoir coastlines. Armoring alters the land-water interface and has the potential to affect shoreline vegetation by changing nearshore geomorphology, hydrology, sediment composition and water quality. We quantified the effects of the artificial disturbances and alternation of the land-water interface on the community structure and distribution of shoreline vegetation in a large reservoir, Uiam Reservoir, Korea. More than 60% of shorelines were disturbed by armoring with retaining wall of concrete block, riprap and gabion in the Uiam Reservoir. The results of detrended correspondence analysis showed that the vegetation structures of the shoreline modified by armoring changed from hydrophyte-dominated to hygrophyte-dominated ecosystems. The shoreline armoring caused the disruption of gradual continuity in the water-land interface and the biological invasion by alien plants. The changes in distribution area of shoreline vegetation showed that the area of hydrophytic vegetation decreased and that of hygrophytic vegetation increased from 2010 to 2013. In conclusion, the human disturbance such as armoring, road construction, recreation etc. could lead to terrestrialization, the loss of transverse continuity and biological invasion in the shoreline vegetation of the Reservoir Uiam. Our findings suggest that redesigning or removing shoreline armoring structures may benefit nearshore hydrophytic vegetation for the conservation of novel shoreline ecosystems.
An understanding of the hydraulic characteristics in the compound channel with vegetation is important in designing stream restorations or managing the floodplain. A laboratory flume of 16 m long and 0.8 m wide was used for analysis of the hydraulic characteristics in the single section channel and the compound channel with artificial vegetation. Slope of experimental channel is 0.5 %. Discharges are ranged from $0.2\;m^3/s\;to\;$0.4\;m^3/s$. The experiments were done by changing water depth ratio, vegetation density and vegetation location. When water depth ratio in the single section channel with vegetation increase up to 3.5, the results showed that the increment of water depth due to vegetation may be ignored in practice. The maximum increment of water depth was measured up to 6 % in the compound channel with vegetation and the range of velocities increment in the low flow channel was from 25 % to 85 % compared with section average velocities. As the vegetation densities increase and water depth ratios decrease, the velocity of the low flow channel increased. The range of roughness coefficients in the vegetated reaches were estimated from 0.055 to 0.14 in the single section channel and from 0.063 to 0.085 in the compound channel using HEC-RAS and RMA-2 model.
