  • The concept of Function is not just a single concept but an integrated concept that includes various mathematic topics such as arithmetics, geometry and so on. Therefore, the concept of function is the basic principal underlying mathematics. Moreover, we should think of function as conceptual expedient for understanding the phenomena in the variously changing real world. Therefore in this article, I would like to consider the concept of an integrated function through historical investigation. Especially, from the middle ages to the 19th century, representation which related to the function has been evolved, and therefore, I will consider function as an integrated concept through changing the concept of function.

  • This students ideas in science are diverse and unique It is realized that children's preconceptions and misconceptions established before lessoning hgve a crucial in fluence on the following education. so it is meaningful to analyse the children's concept of temperature for the better teaching strategy in this study. This survey of the Elementary school children's concept is designed for the subtopics of temperature as the relation between heat and temperature, He relation between volume(size) and temperature, the temperature of change of state on water, the temperature of substances in the condition of thermal equilibrium. Using Clinical method, this research was executed to 306 children at elementary school. The network method or the analyse of questionnaires were used to analyse the children's response. Findings of this survey are as follow. Students are already familiar with such concept as this increase of temperature by geating, but they think every substance is not the case. Many students appears to believe that the temperature of an object(substance) is related to its size(vloume) Qualitative tasks are difficult than qualitative ones. This trend appear highly in the low grade students. Don't know the temperature of change of state on water and it's stability They think that the temperature is determined by the heating time(period) and the temperature of heating source. Students think, in general that temperature of substance in the condition of thermal equilibrium is different.

  • In this study, the researcher tried to find out the effect of using a computer interface in teaching speed concept in the elementary school. The 4th and 5th pupils were sampled for this study. The school is located in a sub-urban agricultural area in Korea. In the study, the subjects were divided into two groups: experimental and comparison group. From the pretest, two groups did not show any difference in the understanding of speed concept. The computer interface and the programs to operate the interface and data analysis were developed by researcher. The interface is a modular type and designed ready to connect to microcomputer. The test items were consisted of (1) comparison of speed, (2) change of motion, (3) acceleration, and (4) deceleration. As the result, the researcher found the following results: 1. In case of speed comparison, no significant difference was found between experimental and comparison group. 2. In case of change of motion, acceleration, and deceleration, the experimental groups showed higher achievement both in 4th grade and 5th grade. However, the 4th graders showed more learning than the 5th graders. In conclusion, this study showed that the use of computer interface seemed to be very effective in teaching and learning speed concept in elementary school.

  • This study was intended to examine the change in the perception of the professionals for the environment-friendly apartments. After result of implementing the question survey against the professionals two times, the degree of importance in the environment-friendly design elements didn't show any significant change. However, it showed the degree of maturity on the concept of environment-friendly development is widely spreaded in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. Based on the description of such results, the conclusion can be deduced as follow; 1) Presumably it would require 5 years for the diffusion of the concept of environment-friendly apartments and 10 years for the construction of developing its materialization and settlement respectively, 2) The proper density would be designed in $150{\sim}200%$ in view of the environmental and economic aspects. 3) It is necessary to change the existing system into the District Unit oriented planning & design method in order to apply the environmental design elements in smooth manner.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the misconception about circulatory / excretional system and to determine the effectiveness of two teaching strategies. The subject was 214 middle school students. The control group was instructed with the traditional teaching method. On the other hand, the experimental group was taught with the concept mapping teaching method. Then the effectiveness of the two teaching strategies were compared in terms with the changes of their conceptions about circulatory/excertional system. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1. The major misconception types were identified. 1) The function of blood is only transportation. 2) The artery is equal to arterial blood. 3) The colon and the anus are also excretional organs. 4) Urine is formed from the bladder. 5) Urine and feces are also excrement. 2. Different conceptional change was observed between control group and experimental group at 0.05 significance level. The concept mapping strategy was more effective than traditional teaching method. 3. No significent difference was found between male and female students in the effectiveness of concept mapping strategy.

  • In this paper function concept is classified in the phenomenological aspect. According to the study, function concept is classified as causality, designation, operation, change, figure, morhism, variables, functional, and operator. This classifications are categorized as pre-level function, basic level function, and upper level function.

  • Objective: Today The human need for health promotion and maintenance is increasing. Health professionals have a great responsibility for helping clients to practice good health behavior. We need to define compliance which is best fit in the philosophy of the health discipline. The purpose of this study is to clarify the concept of compliance. Methods: Concept analysis is the act of examining parts, phenomenon and the interrelated parts of a whole. The process of concept approach described by Walker and Avant (1995). Is this study, a concept analysis of compliance was performed to comprehensively understand and develop effective health intervention methods: Result & Conclusion: The defining attributes of compliance identified in this study are as follows; the ability to complete or perform what is needs, to be malleability, to take initiative, to be adaptability and to be flexibility. 1) Be gentle and easily changeable (Malleability) 2) To take the initiative, a first step, or move towards an end or aim (Initiative) 3) Be able to change their ideas and behavior in order to deal with new situation (Adaptability) 4) Be able to change easily and adapt to different conditions and circumstances (Flexibility) Finally, the implication of these findings for further research and health promotion intervention are discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify change in self-concept of smoking experience in middle school students. Method: The study was a longitudinal survey design and used only the responses on self-concept and smoking state from the data of the Korea Youth Panel Survey (KYPS). The sample for this study consisted of 3,449 middle school students and the data were collected over a two-year period (2003-2004). Results: Self-esteem scores for the first and second year were significantly higher and self-stigma and aggression scores were significantly lower in the non-smoking maintenance group. There was a significant increase in self-esteem scores for students in second year who quit smoking compared to those in first year. There was a significant decrease in scores for attachment to surrounding people and emotional sense of control in second year students compared to those first year for students in the non-smoking maintenance group and the group that quit smoking. Self-intimacy scores were significantly lower in the smoking maintenance group. There was a significant increase in sex-role identity scores in second year students compared to those in first year for students in the group who newly started smoking. Conclusion: Findings from this study can contribute to designing appropriate smoking prevention strategies to improve self-constructs related smoking experiences in adolescents.

  • As a method obtaining linear thrust force for the magnet wheel producing a strong traction torque, the concept of magnetic shield is suggested and compared with the existing approaches. Specially, as the magnet wheel, in which the permanent magnets rotate mechanically instead of ac driving to make traveling field, is physically similar with the rotary induction motor, there is a periodical force ripple in tangential direction as well as normal direction. But, the force ripple can be suppressed from a shape change of the shield plate. Namely, the change brings out a change of entry and exit effect of the circumferential field for the magnet wheel. The feasibility of the shield concept is verified from simulation and experiment.

  • This study examined the types of explanations related to physical change and chemical change in the science textbooks of middle and high school based on the prior study of science teachers' understanding. For this research, the researchers analyzed 44 textbooks of middle school science and high school chemistry. As a result, there were no explanation or property type explanation represented in most of the textbooks related to physical and chemical change concepts. Also, there are few relationship represented between physical change and chemical change, and the examples related to physical change and chemical change were confused. These representations of textbooks can give rise to confusion of understanding of teachers and learners. So, it needs to re-design the explanation types correctly and constantly in science textbooks related to physical change and chemical change.
