  • An impervious cover is one of most important factors which effect on a water body environment in a watershed. There are many researches on the impact of an impervious cover on water quality, quantity and ecosystem and most of these researches have been focused on an impervious rate or area in a watershed without considering structure features as like shape, edge, connection of impervious cover. In this study, we focused on a landscape structure which includes shape, density, contiguity, distance, aggregation of land cover type as well as area and rate. The calculation of a landscape indices made to analyse a landscape structure is conducted by applying Fragastats 3.3 program. Osan-cheon watershed where has rapidly urbanized is selected as a study field. Land information for 2002 and 2007 is from land classification maps provided by Ministry of Environment. The result shows that the increasing rate of an impervious cover is more conspicious in Kiheung dam watershed but the fragment of impervious cover areas is shown remarkably in the Osan sub-watershed. The trend of aggregation and connection of impervious covers is increasing. But it was very difficult to say that which type of landscape structure is more beneficial for a watershed management. The implication of this study is to find the need to come over the conventional ways to evaluate landscape structure of a watershed such as rates and areas of impervious cover, and define the importance of landscape feature as like connection, distance, edge density, fragment of impervious covers.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze relationship between the NDVI change pattern and landcover change pattern in the City of Sungnam during 1985 and 1996. The results of this study are as follows; (1) NDVI of the level 6 and 7 is decreased and the level 5 is increased in the area where Forst area changed to the other land cover during 1985 and 1996. (2) In the area where Agricultural-Pasture changed to forest, NDVI level became higher certainly during that time. But in the area where there has been changed from Agricultural-Pasture to Urban or built-up, Agricultural-Pasture to Barren land, the level of NDVI is decreased. (3) In the Urban or built-up to other land, or built-up the level of NDVI is increased. (4) In the area where Barren land changed to other land cover, the level of NDVI is increased.

  • The purpose of this study was to set the boundary of the coastal sand dunes and to analyze the change characteristics of land cover types using aerial photographs on Osan and Dongho coastal sand dunes in Yangyang. The boundaries of sand dunes were established using digital soil map, and land cover maps were made for each year using aerial photographs. As results of analysis, both beach and farmland areas have been decreased, since 1974 and forest area was relatively increased due to planting and forest growth. Facilities and bare land have been greatly increased since 1992. Loss of wetland, and beach due to these changes had an impact on the ecosystem destruction of sand dunes.

  • Efficient spatial planning is one of the necessary factors to successfully respond to climate change. And researchers often use LULC(Land-Use/Cover) data to conduct land use and spatial planning research. However, LULC data has a limited number of grades related to urban surface, so each different urban structure appearing in several cities is not easily analyzed with existing land cover products. This limitation of land cover data seems to be overcome through LCZ(Local Climate Zone) data used in the urban heat island field. Therefore, this study aims to first discuss whether LCZ data can be applied not only to urban heat island fields but also to other fields, and secondly, whether LCZ data still have problems with existing LULC data. Research methodology is largely divided into two categories. First, through literature review, studies in the fields of climate, land use, and urban spatial structure related to LCZ are synthesized to analyze what research LCZ data is currently being used, and how it can be applied and utilized in the fields of land use and urban spatial structure. Next, the GIS spatial analysis methodology is used to analyze whether LCZ still has several errors that are found in the LULC.

  • Five land use change detection methods were applied to 1994 and 1997 Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) images of Pook-Gu, Taegu city to determine the land-cover changes between the two dates. The two images were coregistred to UTM coordinates. A post-classification comparison method was the most commonly used quantitative method of change detection. A pre-classification comparison method was more effective method to change detection of land cover than a post-classification comparison method. Two indices were used to assess the accuracies of the studied methods. A image differencing method was found to be most accurate for detecting change verse no change among five land use change detection methods. The difference image of band 2 was found to be most accurate. The overall accuracy and Kappa index agreement of the difference image of band 2 were 0.810 and 0.447.

  • This study was carried out in the teaching and research forest of the University of Dschang in Belabo, with the aim of analysing land-cover and land-use changes as well as carbon stocks dynamic. The databases used are composed of three Landsat satellite images (5TM of 1984, 7ETM + of 2000 and 8OLI of 2016), enhanced by field missions. Satellite images were processed using ENVI and ArcGIS software. Interview, focus group discussion methods and participatory mapping were used to identify the activities carried out by the local population. An inventory design consisting of four transects was used to measure dendrometric parameters and to identify land-use types. An estimation of carbon stocks in aboveground and underground woody biomass was made using allometric models based on non-destructive method. Dynamic of land-cover showed that the average annual rate of deforestation is 0.48%. The main activities at the base of this change are agriculture, house built-up and logging. Seven types of land-use were identified; adult secondary forests (64.10%), young secondary forests (7.54%), wetlands (7.39%), fallows (3.63%), savannahs (9.59%), cocoa farms (4.28%) and mixed crop farms (3.47%). Adult secondary forests had the highest amount of carbon ($250.75\;t\;C\;ha^{-1}$). This value has decreased by more than 60% for mixed crop farms ($94.67\;t\;C\;ha^{-1}$), showing the impact of agricultural activities on both forest cover and carbon stocks. Agroforestry systems that allow conservation and introduction of woody species should be encouraged as part of a participatory management strategy of this forest.

  • This study has been on detection of land-cover change on Korean peninsula (including the area of north Korean territory) between May of 1990 year and that of 1995 year using NOAA AVHRR data. It was necessary that imagery data should be registered to each other and should not be deviated much in seasonal variation in order to recognize land - cover change. Atmosphic effect such as clould and dirt was erased by maximum NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) method the equation of which was as following $$NDVI(i,j,d)=\frac{ch2(j,j,d)-ch1(i,j,d)}{ch2(i,j,d)+ch1(i.j,d)}$$ Each image of maximum NDVI of '90 year and '95 year was c1assifed onto 8 categories ,using iso-clustering method each of which was water, wet barren and urban, crop field, field, mixed vegetation, shrub, forest and evergreen.

  • Landsat OLI satellite imagery can be applied to various remote sensing applications, such as generation of land cover map, urban area analysis, extraction of vegetation index and change detection, because it includes various multispectral bands. In addition, land cover map is an important information to monitor and analyze land cover using GIS. In this paper, land cover map is generated by using Landsat OLI and existing land cover map. First, training dataset is obtained using correlation between existing land cover map and unsupervised classification result by K-means, automatically. And then, spectral signatures corresponding to each class are determined based on training data. Finally, abundance map and land cover map are generated by using iterative spectral mixture model. The experiment is accomplished by Landsat OLI of Cheongju area. It shows that result by our method can produce land cover map without manual training dataset, compared to existing land cover map and result by supervised classification result by SVM, quantitatively and visually.

  • This study examines the impacts of land cover changes on the East Asia summer monsoon with the National Center for Atmospheric Research Regional Climate Model (NCAR RegCM2), coupled with Biosphere Atmosphere Transfer Scheme (BATS). To assess the goals, two types of land cover maps were used in the simulation of summer climate. One type was NCAR land cover map (CTL) and the other was current land cover map derived from satellite data (land cover: LCV). Warm and cold surface temperature biases of $1-3^{\circ}C$ occurred over central China and Mongolia in CTL. The model produced excessive precipitation over northern land area but less over southern ocean of the model domain. Changes of biophysical parameters, such as albedo, minimum stomatal resistance and roughness length, due to the land cover changes resulted in the alteration of land-atmosphere interactions. Latent heat flux and wind speed in LCV increased noticeably over central China where deciduous broad leaf trees have been replaced by mixed farm and irrigated crop. As a result, the systematic warm biases over central China were greatly reduced in LCV. Strong cooling of central China decreased pressure gradient between East Asian continent and Pacific Ocean. The decreased pressure gradient suppressed the northward transport of moisture from south China and South China Sea. These changes reduced not only the excessive precipitation over north China and Mongolia but also less precipitation over south China. However, the land cover changes increased the precipitation over the Korean Peninsula and the Japan Islands, especially in July and August.

  • Because of the limited land resources, an efficient land use management to reach the sustainable development policy has become an urgent call in Taiwan. A long-term project entitled 'National land use monitoring program-the establishment of a land use change detection system' has been jointly conducted by both National Central University and Ministry of Interior since year of 2001. The main aim of the project is to use the remote sensing images to detect the land use changes on a national scale. This plan has been put into practice and indeed provides an effective assistance for land management.
