In synthesis of nano powders, the hard agglomeration for the synthesized powders occurred during the drying processing. In order to avoid hard agglomeration in particles the freeze drying process was used in this experiment. e fabricated the Yttira-Doped Ceria(YDC) nano powder by co-precipitation. Starting materials used in experiments were the cerium(III) nitrate and yttrium(III) nitrate solution with 야-water, which two solutions were mixed and then the precipitated hydroxides were prepared for adding sodium hydroxide. The co-precipitated powders were dried by the thermal drying at 8$0^{\circ}C$ for 24 h and by freeze drying at -4$0^{\circ}C$, 30 mtorr for 72 h. The lattice parameter and crystallite size as a function of calcination temperature was characterized by XRD analysis. The lattice parameter of YDC was decreased with addition amount of yttrium and was estimated as 5.401683 $\AA$ at $700^{\circ}C$. Crystallite size were calculated by XRD-LB method, and morphologies were confirmed with the observation of TEM and SEM. The freeze dried YDC powders had medium diameter of 17 nm with more uniform size distribution than the thermal dried YDC posers, which were mainly ascribed to the difference of agglomerates formation during drying stage.
We fabricated single cells with a cathode consisting of a $LaNi_{0.6}Fe_{0.4}O_3-Ce_{0.8}Sm_{0.2}O_{1.9}$ composite (LNF-S20DC composite) active layer and an LNF current collecting layer on a ${0.89ZrO_2}-{0.10Sc_2}{O_3}-0.01{Al_2}{O_3}$ electrolyte sheet. The cathode layers were prepared by the screen-printing method. The cathode properties of these cells were measured by the AC impedance method at $800^{\circ}C$. The cathodes with the ceria-LNF composite active layer exhibited high power performance prior to current loading. We investigated the influence of the mixture ratio of LNF and S20DC on the cathodes properties. The Sm in the ceria particles of the composite cathode was substituted with other rare-earth elements. Cathodes with Pr and Gd co-doped ceria in the active layer provided the better performance than those with Sm- or Gd-doped ceria.
Cerium oxide nanofibers have been of great interest in fundamental level study. We fabricated polyvinylpyrollidone (PVP) and cerium nitrate nanofibers composite applying a mixed solution of PVP and cerium nitrate hydrate (Ce(NO3)3) with various cerium concentration from 8.87 to 35.5wt% by electrospinning process. Electrospinning method is a simple and cost-effective process to make nanoand submicro nanofiber fabrication. We applied 0.69 kV/cm of electric field between the capillary and a drum collector covered with aluminum foil. Cerium oxide nanofibers were obtained after calcination of PVP/Ce(NO3)3 nanofibers composite at 573, 873 and 1273K, which were chosen by thermal gravimetry analysis. The obtained nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). When the viscosity of the electrospinning solution was high named over 60 cP, only nano and submicro-sized cerium oxide fibers were collected. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was performed for investigation of the chemical nature of the obtained ceria nanofibers. After we calcined the PVP/ceria nanocomposites, metallic cerium was oxidized to cerium oxide including ceria.
The high temperature performance of PEM type electrolyser at $120^{\circ}C$ based on covalently cross-linked sulfonated poly ether ether ketone (SPEEK) composie membrane was investigated. Ion conductivity and other properties of SPEEK membrane were improved by adding heteropoly acid and Ceria. The membrane electrode assemblies were prepared using commercial PtC and nano-sized $IrRuO_2$ catalyst by electro-spraying and decal process. Voltage efficiency of MEA equipped with SPEEK membrane was slightly better than that of $Nafion^{(R)}$ membrane, due to its higher proton conductivity at high temperature. The cell performance of MEA with CL-SPEEK/Cs-TSiA/Ceria is 1.71 V at $1A/cm^2$ and $120^{\circ}C$.

The composite barium strontium cobalt ferrite (BSCF) cathodes were investigated in the intermediate temperature range of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The characteristics and electrochemical performances of composited BSCF/samarium doped ceria (SDC); BSCF/gadolinium doped ceria (GDC); and BSCF/SDC/GDC were compared to single BSCF cathode. The BSCF used in this study were synthesized using glycine nitrate process and mechanically mixing was used to fabricate a composite cathode. Using a composite form, the thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) could be reduced and BSCF/SDC/GDC exhibited the lowest TEC value at $18.95{\times}10^{-6}K^{-1}$. The electrochemical performance from half cells and single cells exhibited nearly the same trend. All the composite cathodes gave higher electrochemical performance than the single BSCF cathode (0.22 $Wcm^{-2}$); however, when two kinds of electrolyte were used (BSCF/SDC/GDC, 0.36$Wcm^{-2}$), the electrochemical performance was lower than when the BSCF/SDC (0.45 $Wcm^{-2}$) or BSCF/GDC (0.45 $Wcm^{-2}$) was applied as cathode ($650^{\circ}C$, 97%$H_2$/3%$H_2O$ to the anode and ambient air to the cathode).
The purpose of this study was to investigate the root cause of adhesion of silica and ceria particles during Poly-Si, TEOS, and SiN CMP process, respectively. The zeta-potentials of abrasive particles and wafers were observed negative surface charges in the alkaline solutions. SAC and STI patterned wafers have intermediate values of their composition surface's zeta potentials. The theoretical interaction force and adhesion force of silica and ceria particle were calculated in solution with acidic, neutral and alkaline pH. A stronger attractive force was calculated for silica and ceria particles on wafers in acidic solutions than in alkaline solutions. The theoretical interaction forces of the SAC and STI patterned wafers have intermediate values of their constitution wafer's values. The adhesion forces is observed lower values in alkaline solutions than in acidic solutions. And the ceria particle has lower adhesion than that of the silica particle.
M-CeO2 (M : noble metal) catalysts have been widely studied as three-way catalysts and methanol synthesis catalysts. Ceria is thought to play a number of roles in these catalysts. The Ce(IV)/Ce(III) redox pair may store/release gases under oxidizing/reducing conditions, extending the operational window. Additionally, metal-ceria interactions lead to several effects, including the dispersion of the active components and promoting the activation of molecules such as CO or NO. Pd is a promising component to current TWC formulations and behaves particularly well when compared with Pt and Rh-based catalysts for low-temperature oxidation of Co and hydrocarbon. However the effect of Pd-ceria interactions on the physicochemical properties of Pd and the redox properties of Ce is not elucidated yet. In order to know exactly about the metal-ceria interactions, the model study are expecting to give a better environment, resulting in the wide use of the surface science tools. The substrate was Si(100) wafer, on which Ta metal was sputtered as a thickness of 100nm. The CeO2 thin film of 30nm was deposited by using the magnetron sputtering. Spin coating and magnetron sputtering methods were used to make the Pd thin film layer. The prepared sample was investigated by in-situ XPS, AES, SEM and AFM analysis.
