To investigate the application of biochemical markers' and small-sample methods using whole-wheat flours for screening in early generation in Korean wheat breeding system, 74 Korean wheats, including cultivars, local breeding lines and experimental lines, were analyzed. Seed storage protein and amylose contents of grains were evaluated. Biochemical makers, including granule bound starch synthase (GBSS), high molecular weigh glutenin subunits (HMW-GS) and friabilin were also evaluated by using one-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacryla-mide gel electrophoresis with a single kernel. The smallsample methods, including modified SDS-sedimentation test (MST), micro-alkaline water retention capacity (AWRC) and whole-wheat flour swelling volume (WSV) were also tested in this study. Protein content, MST and AWRC was $11.0 - 15.8\%$, 2.7 - 26.2 ml and $71.9 - 109.7\%$, respectively. Apparent and total amylose content and WSV was $20.6 - 25.0\%$, $26.1 - 32.4\%$ and 9.0 - 16.9 ml, respectively. There were highly significant correlations between MST and AWRC (r=0.592, P<0.001), but Korean wheats showed no significant difference in protein content, amylose content and small-sample methods. In the biochemical markers, Korean wheats contained all three GBSS encoded by Wx loci, except for Suwon 252. Korean wheats showed the high frequency ($58.1\%$) of 1Dx2.2 + 1Dy12 subunits of HMW-GS. Friabilin band was present in 46 lines ($62.2\%$) and absent in 28 lines ($37.8\%$). Friabilin-absence lines showed the higher MST (14.9 ml) and AWRC ($92.1\%$) value than friabilin-presence lines (8.5 ml and $82.4\%$, respectively).
This study was carried out to identify the changes of EC during desalinization due to flooding in newly reclaimed saline soil. To do this, experimental plots were made of rotary tillage+water exchanging plot, flooding plot and rainfall flooding plot. In rotary tillage+water exchanging plot, drainage, rotary tillage and flooding were conducted at the interval of 7 days. In rotary tillage+water exchanging plot and flooding plot, plots were irrigated at the height of 10 cm. After 38 days desalinization, changes of EC values at top soil (0~20 cm) were as follows. In rotary tillage+water exchanging plot, EC decreased from $21.38dS\;m^{-1}$ to $2.16dS\;m^{-1}$ and in flooding plot, EC decreased from $13.97dS\;m^{-1}$ to $2.22dS\;m^{-1}$. In rotary tillage+water exchanging plot and flooding plot, EC values decreased below the EC criterion ($4.0dS\;m^{-1}$) of saline soil. In rainfall flooding plot, EC values decreased or increased according to amounts of rainfall and rainfall time. After 38 days, EC decreased from $16.7dS\;m^{-1}$ to $12.35dS\;m^{-1}$. In flooding plot, changes of EC due to soil depth were investigated. After 38 days desalinization, changes of EC due to soil depth were as follows. At 0~10 cm depth, EC value decreased from $13.08dS\;m^{-1}$ to $0.74dS\;m^{-1}$ (94.3% of salt was desalinized). At 10~20 cm depth, EC value decreased from $14.80dS\;m^{-1}$ to $3.69dS\;m^{-1}$ (75.2% of salt was desalinized). At 20~30 cm depth, soil was desalinized slowly compared with upper soil, EC value decreased from $13.57dS\;m^{-1}$ to $6.93dS\;m^{-1}$ (48.9% of salt was desalinized).
This study was conducted to predict reduction of soybean yield as affected by different densities of Cuscuta pentagona. All data were fitted to Cousens' rectangular hyperbola model to estimate parameters for predicting soybean yield loss. The yield of soybean in the various densities (1 to 48 plants $m^{-2}$) of C. pentagona reduced by 80.3 to 99.7%, respectively. Among yield components, number of pods was the most significantly influenced by weed interferences. The prediction model for soybean yield as affected by weed competition was as follows: Y= 274.6783/(1+4.3522X), $r^2$=0.999 in C. pentagona. Economic threshold levels calculated using cousens' equation was 0.004 plants $m^{-2}$ in C. pentagona.

This study was carried out to analyze winter cereal crops for harvest time, proper drying time and haylage quality in order to investigate the possibility of the production of good quality haylage substitute for hay. As a result, in case of productivity and feed value, dry matter yield and TDN yield was increased with late harvest and crude protein and NDF, ADF was decreased (p<0.05). To make haylage for whole crop barley, oats, triticale, whole crop wheat need more than 32 hour wilting time in the milk ripe stage, yellow ripe stage need about 8~24 hour, and wilting time did not need the full ripe stage. Rye does not suitable for making haylage because of difficulty pre-wilting time. In case of fermentative quality on haylage, pH was increased with late harvest on all winter cereal crop forage. Lactic acid content was decreased with late harvest (p<0.05), and highest in the milk ripe stage. Acetic acid was also decreased with late harvest, and butyric acid was not detected. In conclusion, to harvest sooner of winter cereal crops could be an efficient way when making haylage in terms of protein content and fermentation quality. Ray can used as fresh and silage, because difficulty for pre-wilting time in Korea. Whole crop barley, oats, triticale, wheat can be used haylage when harvested yellow ripen stage and pre-wilting time for 8~24 hours.

A field study was conducted from 2007 to 2008 at Department Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, NICS, RDA, to evaluate the effects of harvest time and cultivar on forage yield and quality. Four whole crop barley cultivars ('Youngyang', 'Wooho', 'Yuyeon' and 'Dami') were selected and harvested on five separate growth stages (heading, and intervals of 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks after heading) in split plot design with three replications. Results from this experiment indicated significant differences due to harvest time and cultivar in dry matter yield and total digestible nutrients (TDN) yield for forage. The interaction between harvest time and cultivar was not significant. The TDN yield trends were increasing with later harvest time due to higher dry matter yield and TDN content. This experiment provides some interesting results with respects to optimum harvest time, feed value and ultimately yield for the different whole crop barley cultivars.

This study was carried out to establish the optimum organic fertilization and microbial compost on wheat cultivation in order to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and improve the quality of wheat. The tests resulted in a yield of organic fertilization of 2~6% lower than the yield of standard 4.16 Ton/ha (a yield more than that of microbial compost). The recession was not statistically significant. The trial which involved organic fertilizer that had a yield of 800 kg/ha and microbial compost which had a yield of 2,000 kg/ha resulted in 96% yield of standard trial. The quality of flour in the manure was 50% less during the trial and was not making a good result. In protein content and SDS-sedimentation volume, standard trial had the highest yield in test trial (standard > miccompost > organic fertilization). However, Ash content was not statistically significant.
This study was to investigate the effects of rice straw incorporation by cutting height on paddy soil fertility. The average residual amount of rice straw by cutting height were showed 1,420 kg $ha^{-1}$, 1,850 kg $ha^{-1}$, and 2,400 kg $ha^{-1}$ for depths of 10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm, respectively. For soil physical properties, soil hardness and bulk density were decreased while porosity was increased by rice straw incorporation. But soil organic matter (SOM), available silicate content, and cation exchange capacity (CEC) were significantly decreased when rice straw was removed from the field. These results indicated that the SOM as residual amount of rice straw was influenced by level of cutting height. Milled rice yield was increased by 28% and 32% for cutting heights of 15 cm and 20 cm, compared with that of control, respectively. The number of spikelets per square meter and the percentage of ripeness were increased with increasing incorporation by lower level of cutting height of rice straw. Therefore, incorporation of rice straw practices under cutting method influenced soil improvement and rice yield in paddy field.
The process of establishing domestic standards on hazardous substances in food safety regulations requires harmonization with standards from the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC). For this purpose, food classification by the CAC (Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds) also needs to be clearly understood. Therefore, this paper aimed to introduce the Codex Classification on cereal grains, nuts/seeds and herbs/spices because revisions of the Codex were completed in 2017 for cereal grains and in 2018 for nuts/seeds and herbs/spices. The revised Codex Classification on those foods is briefly summarized as follows. Cereal grains in the domestic food classification by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Korea (MFDS) corresponds to the Codex Group 020 cereal grains with six subgroups. The MFDS's nuts and seeds classification corresponds to three groups in the Codex, namely, Group 022 (tree nuts with no subgroups), Group 023 (oilseeds and oilfruits with 5 subgroups), and Group 024 (seeds for beverages and sweets with no subgroups). The food commodities of herbs and spices are included in two Codex groups, Group 027 (with 3 subgroups) and Group 028 (with 9 subgroups). The number of Codex commodity codes assigned to food commodities was 27 for Group 020, 32 for Group 022, 46 for Group 023, 4 for Group 024, 127 for Group 027 and 138 for Group 028. In between the Codex Classification and the MFDS's classification, some differences are shown. For example, the MFDS did not create a subgroup under groups of cereal grains and herbs. The MFDS classified peanuts into the nut group, though a separate group for oilseeds is present, while the Codex classified peanuts into the oilseed and oilfruit group. In addition, there is also a separate group of "plants, others" present in the MFDS's classification. Therefore, care is needed in using the Codex Classification.

This experiment was undertaken to develop triple cropping systems for winter cereal crops for forage, early maturing rice and oats, and to select a winter forage crop in order to determine rice transplanting time at paddy fields in the southern region. Also, the productivity and feed value of the resulting forage crops were examined. When winter cereal crops used for forages are first harvested at the early maturing rice transplanting period, and again harvested during the winter forage crop harvesting period, the fresh yield and dry matter yield of rye were 32.0, 42.3 ton/ha and 5.8, 16.5 ton/ha, respectively, demonstrating higher yields than other winter crops. The early maturing rice, 'Jopyeong', transplanted on June 4 had a lower percentage of ripened grain compared to those transplanted on May 6, and milled rice yield transplanted on June 4 was also decreased by 22%. Thus, the results showed that early transplanting was profitable. Regarding the oats grown during the fall cropping season, the heading date for the oats sown first was on October 10, but the heading was not observed in those sown later. Dry matter yield and TDN yield of the second sowing was less than 50% compared to the first. Consequently, rye may be the most suitable winter forage crop for triple cropping systems. Early transplanting of 'Jopyeong' after rye harvesting before April 30 in addition to timely sowing of oats in the fall season would be profitable for rice and forage production using triple cropping systems in the southern region.
