The purpose of this study was to show occlusion on the simple hinge articulator optionally mounted. Modelling of upper-lower jaw and simple hinge articulator were developed. This modelling of upper-lower jaw inserting wax bite was mounted imaginary on the modelling of simple hinge articulator by use of the computer simulation. From changes of THA(transverse horizontal axis)-incisor distance, Balkwill angle and THA deviation, eight types were mounted respectively. After removal of wax bite, upper-lower jaw position changing were compared with centric jaw relation. The results were as follows: 1. The change of THA-incisor distance had influence on mostly a vertical shift of upper jaw. 2. The change of Balkwill angle had influence on mostly a horizontal shift of upper jaw. 3. Inferior type in the THA deviations was the least shift of upper jaw. The above results suggest that the simple hinge articulator optionally mounted effect a shift of upper jaw.

Anterior openbite is defined as the lack of contacts between the functional occluding teeth on vertical line at centric occlusion and classified into functional and skeletal anterior openbite based on its causes and characteristics. Anterior openbite causes masticatory, speech, and esthetic problems in the growing children and difficulties in diagnosis, treatment, and the prediction of its prognosis. We are reporting on the treatment of anterior openbite in the growing children and the results follow as : 1. In the growing children with anterior openbite, the overbite could be increased by the treatment according to its causes and characteristics. 2. The prognosis is not determined by the presence or severity of oral habit but the skeletal tendency of the patient.

The occlusal treatment including prosthetic treatment should be considered when the pathologic symptom was observed with the excessive discrepancy between the centric relation occlusion (CRO) and the maximum intercuspal position (MIP). Through careful diagnosis, the malocclusion and interarch relationship can be analyzed, and occlusal adjustment, restorative treatment, orthodontic therapy, or orthognathic surgery can be performed depending on the degree of disharmony. The patient in this case report complained the unstable occlusion and loss of masticatory function that had been occurring for several years. At the time of the visit, the patient showed severe occlusal disharmony, with only the upper right second molar contacting the lower jaw at the maximum intercuspal position. Based on the analysis of the occlusion, it was difficult to solve the problem with just occlusal adjustment or restorative treatment. In addition, the patient had the skeletal class II malocclusion between the upper and lower jaws. Therefore, for resolving the severe skeletal class II malocclusion, pre- and post-orthodontic treatment, bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) was performed. After that, the occlusal adjustment was performed for stable occlusion, and the missing teeth area was restored with dental implants. During the follow-up period, a periodic follow-up visits and additional occlusal adjustments were performed to achieve a stable centric occlusion and harmonious anterior and lateral guidance. As a result, the final prosthodontic treatment was completed, and the patient's masticatory function was restored.
The purpose of this study was to compare the maganitude of the discrepancies of the mounting errors in according to the states of dentitions, and to the superoinferior, anteroposterior, and rightleft driecetions. GROUP I. : Fourteen patients 22 to 26 years of age with a full complement of teeth, were used in the study. The criteria fro patient selection were a complete dentition, sparse restorarive treatment, and adequate posterior and anterior occlusan stops. And they had no sign and sympton at TMG area. GROUPII. : Eigth patients 37 to 62 years of age with bilateral free ends. The criteria for patient selection were Kennedy classification class 1 cases, and adequate posterior and anterior stops. And the opposite dentitions were a full complement of teeth. Irreversible hydrocolloid impresiion of each arch was taken of each patient. These were immediatel poured in stone and mounted on a Denar Mark II. Articulator with the arbitrary slidematic face-bow. With hand articulation th e mandibular cast was mounted to the maxillary cast in centric occlusion. Five types of interocclusal records were taken of each patient : (1) aluwax (2) baseplate wax; (3) znic oxide-eugenol pasts; (4) polyether (Ramitec); (5) modeling compound. All measurement of the five selected recording materials were compared with those of the hand-articulated full arch models in centric occlusion or maximum interdigitation. The results were as follows; 1. There were statistical differences in amount of devitation in according to the materials and the states of dentition. The amount of deviation of compound was the largest. 2. There were statistical differences in amount of deviation in complete dentition at all directions. The amount of diviation of compound was the largest. And at the right-left direction the amount of znic oxide-eugenol paste was larger than that of baseplate wax. 3. There was a statistical difference in amount of diviations in partial edentulous dentition at the superoinferior direction. The amount of deviation of compound was larger than that of znic oxide-eugenol paste. 4. There was as statistical difference in amount of deviations in partial edentulous dentition at the right-left direction. The amount of deviation of baseplate wax was larger that tnat of polyether. 5. There was not a statistical difference in amount of diviation in partial edentulous dentition at the anteroposterior direction.
Temporomandibular joint is a major structure to play an important role in the function & stability of the occlusion as well as the stomatognathic system. Therefore, the TMJ is the structure that requires the complete analysis for diagnosing and planning treatment of pathologic changes by TMJ dysfunction and malocclusion. So, in this study, to evaluate TMJ situation in Korean malocclusion, based on the previous accomplishments, students of the dental college of Won-Kwang Univ. are surveyed and selected in terms of Angle's classification of malocclusion, whose TMJ radiographs were taken in the centric occlusion and centric relation. In each maiocclusion groups, the mean and standard deviation of anterior, posterior and superior joint space of the right, left and both side in CO & CR are evaluated and also those of the fossa height and the articular eminence angle of the right, left and both sides are evaluated. The obtained results were as follows: 1. In the correlation coefficient between the malocclusion groups, no other items except the posterior joint space of the right side in CR between in class I and class III are significant. 2. In the correlation coefficient between the right and left side, the each joint space in class I malocclusion group and class II malocclusion group are significant. 3. In the change of each joint space during the transmit from CO to CR, there is a tendency of increasing anterior joint space and decreasing posterior, superior joint spaces in class I, II malocclusion and increasing superior joint space and decreasing anterior, posterior joint space in class III malocclusion, which is significant in the correlation coefficient, but not significant in the T-test. 4. In each malocclusion group, the correlation coefficient between the posterior joint space and the superior joint space in C.R is highly significant. 5. The fossa height of class II malocclusion group is lesser than that of class I or class III, which is not significant in T-test. 6. In the correlation coefficient between Rt. and Lt. side in the fossa height, it is not significant in class I and class III group, but significant in class II malocclusion group. 7. The articular eminence angle of class II malocclusion group is larger then that of class I or class III groups, which is fairly significant. 8. In the correlation coefficient between Rt. and Lt. side in the articular eminence angle, it is significant in each malocclusion group.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of mandibular movement and muscle activity following orthognathic surgery in patients with mandibular prognathism. Lateral cephalogram, M.K.G., E.M.G. recordings were obtained immediately before surgery, and 2 months and 8 months after surgery. Among the patients who received orthognathic surgery, 19(13 men, 6 women) were selected for this study. Statistical analysis for each time interval differences were performed with the SPSS package. The results were as follows: 1. Compared with the pre-operative group (opening 349.7mm/sec, closing 313.1mm/sec), the mean values of the maximum opening and closing velocity in the skeletal Class III surgery group were significantly decreased in the 2 months post-operative (opening 232.9mm/sec, closing 206.9mm/sec), but the values tended to increase in the 8 months post-operative group (opening 280.9 mm/sec, closing 319.1mm/sec). 2. Compared with the pre-operative group (61.7 mm/sec), the maximum velocity of the terminal tooth contact increased in the 2 months (72mm/sec) and 8 months (105.7mm/sec) postoperative groups. 3. In the mean value of vertical freeway space, there was significant difference between the normal group and the pre-operative group, but not between the normal group and the 8 months post-operative group. 4. In the mean values of the maximum opening, the maximum anterio-posterior movement from centric-occlusion, and the lateral deviation from centric occlusion, there was no significant difference between the normal group and the surgery group (the pre-operative and the 8 months post-operative groups). 5. The mature swallowing pattern was 58% in the pre-operative group, but 90% in the 2 months post-operative group, and 63% in the 8 months post-operative group. 6. In the comparison of muscle activity, there was no significant difference between the normal group and the surgery group during the rest position. However, during cotton roll clenching, there was significant difference between the normal group and the pre-operative group, but not between the normal group and the 8 months post-operative group.
Objectives: This article reported three patients developed anterior open bite seemed to be related to TMJ anterior disc dislocation without reduction(ADD WO R), but no evidence of condylar destructive or collapse and analyzed the craniofacial skeletal structure by means of cephalometric analysis. Results: All patients suddenly developed a centric relation/centric occlusion discrepancy, an increased overjet and an anterior open bite following ADD WO R. All patients had Angle's Class I occlusion and shallow bite, but they had skeletally Class III and Class II pattern and all were vertically significant hyperdivergent type. Conclusions: These 3 patients had characteristics of common facial morphology including:(1)Angle classification Class I and shallow bite,(2)high mandibular plane angle,(3)high gonial angle. Developed anterior open bite resulted from clockwise rotation of the mandible related TMJ ADD WO R, rather than a result from the eruption of posterior teeth. We hypothesize rotation may relate to attached direction of masticatory muscle.

In edentulous patients, implant - supported fixed prosthesis treatment has been proved to be useful, but involves complex treatment process. On the other hand, in the modern dentistry, digital technology has been developed day by day and it has expanded its range to the implant restoration of edentulous patients. In this case, a digital system was used for all stages of diagnosis, surgery, design and fabrication of provisional implants fixed prosthesis restoration in 66-year-old mandibular edentulous patients. In the preoperative diagnosis stage, a provisional restoration was designed based on the mucosal scan using the intraoral scanner and the stable occlusion of prefabricated complete denture of the patient. After flapless implant surgery using the surgical guide, the prefabricated interim restoration was connected to the implant and used as immediate provisional restoration. The final restoration was designed and fabricated by transferring the vertical dimension and the centric relation of the provisional restoration with stable occlusion using digital technology. We report a simple protocol of implant treatment in edentulous patients by using digital techniques to preserve the patient's vertical dimension and occlusion.
Statement of problems: The concept of CR has also changed continuously.?In order to find out the factors that affect the centric slide, studies were carried out to compare the forms of wisdom teeth eruption, lateral movement, premature contact in CR, and anterior movement. Research and statistical methods were based on the report by the 1980 Korean dental association. Material and method: In our study, 403 dentists in their twenties and dentistry students who could understand CR and CO (and who did not receive occlusal, orthodontic treatment, without extreme caries and large prosthodontic care) were compared with the 25 year old results. A segment of line parallel to the upper incisor was marked on the lower incisor. When seen laterally, a line perpendicular to the occlusal plane was drawn on the foremost area of the upper incisor. This line was extended to the lower incisor and the two points (points at the lower and upper incisors) were used as reference points for the CO. After guiding the occlusion to the CR, two lines were marked by using the same method that was used for the CO. The point in which these lines meet became the reference point of CR occlusion Results and conclusions: Results of the experiment completed in 1980 show that all 307 research members had anterior-posterior and upper-lower displacement. Displacement measurements were $0.7{\pm}0.4mm$ for the anterior-posterior displacement, $0.99{\pm}0.50mm$ for the upper-lower displacement,0.18{\pm}0.31 mm for the lateral displacement, and $1.32{\pm}0.67mm$ for the total displacement. Results of the 2006 experiment show that all 409 research members had anterior-posterior and upper-lower displacement. The anterior-posterior displacement was $1.12{\pm}0.86mm$, the upper-lower displacement was $1.02{\pm}0.71mm$, the lateral displacement was $0.61{\pm}0.56mm$, and the total displacement was $1.80{\pm}0.99mm$. No specific differences were found between each group when comparing displacement according to the forms of wisdom teeth eruption. Since 1980, the percentage of unerupted teeth has increased from 35.16% (111/307 people) to 57.5% (236/409 people). Westernization of the Korean cranial form and intraoral structure has brought about these results. In our experiment, 26.7% (109/409 people) of the subjects were cuspid guided, while 7.3% (30/409 people) were mutually guided. No specific differences were found in the amount of displacement between the two groups. Only the subjects with anteriors coming in contact made up the largest percentage group (42.3%, 173/409 people) in our study. No specific differences were found between each group.
The Purpose of this study was to investigate the dentoalveolar compensation according to anteroposterior skeletal discrepancy in normal occlusion and to evaluate cephalometric parameters that quantitatively describe dental compensations. The study consisted of 90 subjects (50 males. 40 females) who were selected among specimens of normal occlusion at Seoul National, University Dental Hospital, Dept. of Orthodontics. Lateral cephalograms in centric occlusion were traced and digitized for each subject. According to the anteroposterior skeletal pattern the sample was divided into three groups. Cephalometric data were analyzed for the three groups using the SPSS program. Independent t-test, correlation analysis and regression analysis were carried out. The results were as fellows: Dentoalveolar compensation was found in upper and lower incisor inclination and occlusal plane inclination. As the mandible located anterior to the maxilla, the maxillary incisors incisors more labially. the mandibular incisors more lingually, and the occlusal plane continued to flatten. The dental parameters most correlated with anteroposterior skeletal discrepancy were L1 to SN and L1 to FH. Among the compensatory dentoalveolar changes, lower incisor inclination was strongly related to the anteroposterior jaw relationship and played au imposrtant role in obtaining a normal incisor relationship U1 to PtGn and L1 to APog were constant irrelevant to anteroposterior skeletal discrepancy.
