The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various cements on the retention of casting crown and the cement film thickness. To evaluate the retention of crown, thirty maxillary premolars were used and prepared to largely same dimension. According to the routine method, Non-precious metal crowns were made. The teeth and the metal crowns were divided into three groups and cemented under 5kg static pressure. Group I was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with zinc phohsphste cement. Group II was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with Panavia-EX cement. Group III was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with All-Bond & composite resin cement. After 5 days, the cemented specimens were mounted and the failure loads were measured by an Instron Universal Testing Machine. To evaluate the cement film thickness. 5 metal teeth and 5metal crowns from a prepared maxillary premolar were made. Two marks were flawed on the margin part of each surface at 4-surfaces of each specimen(one mark : crown, the other : metal tooth) and were measured the width with SEM photograph(80 sheets) before and after cementation(Panavia-EX, All-Bond cement, & ZPC) was made. Differences of the widths of marks between before and after were measured, and differences from 4-surfaces of a specimen cemented with a cement were measured and calculated. The results were as follows ; 1. There was a statistically significant difference between the failure loads of group III and the others(p<0.05). 2. There was a statistically significant difference between the cement film thickness of group III and the others(p<0.05).

This in vitro study compared the remineralization of incipient interproximal caries in the presence of three glass ionomer cements(highly-filled glass ionomer cement, resin-modified glass ionomer cement, compomer) and a resin composite(control). Thirty-two extracted premolars were selected based upon the lack of any visible demineralization. The teeth were coated in a transparent acid resistant nail varnish leaving $3{\times}3$ mm square. The teeth were subjected to the demineralizing buffer for 3 days and quantitative light-induced fluorescence(QLF) images of the subjects were taken. Proximal restoration was simulated by placing tooth specimens and the various glass ionomer cements in closed containers with artificial saliva at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0 with constant circulation. Further QLF images were subsequently taken at 30, 60, and 90 days. The changes of mineral loss(${\Delta}Q$) were evaluated by QLF and the change of ${\Delta}Q$(${\Delta}{\Delta}Q$) were compared between groups in order to evaluate the effects of remineralization. All data were analyzed using ANOVA and the post-HOC Dunnett C multiple comparison test at p<0.05. While ${\Delta}Q$(changes of mineral loss) increased for all treatments, the increases for three glass ionomer groups were significantly higher than that for the resin group at first month period. As time went on, the amount of ${\Delta}{\Delta}Q$ decreased.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strengths between the latest CAD/CAM ceramic inlay and various resin cements which are used primarily for esthetic restoration. Materials and methods: Cylindrical ceramic blocks(Height: 5 mm, diameter: 3 mm) were fabricated by using Cerec3 and bonded on the dentin of the ninety extracted caries-free molars using three different kinds of resin cement(Unicem$^{(R)}$, Biscem$^{(R)}$, and Variolink II$^{(R)}$) according to the manufacturer's instructions. Ninety specimens were divided into 3 groups according to three different kinds of resin cement. Half of each group were conducted thermocycling under the conditions of the $5-55^{\circ}C$, 5,000 cycle but the other half of them weren't. All specimens were kept in normal saline $37^{\circ}C$, for 24 hours before measuring the bond strength. The shear bond strength was measured by Universal testing machine with a cross head speed of 0.5 mm/min. The results were analyzed statistically by t-test and one-way ANOVA. Results: Unicem$^{(R)}$ group showed the highest shear bond strength despite a slight decline by thermocycling. The shear bond strength of Unicem$^{(R)}$ group and ValiolinkII$^{(R)}$ group were significantly influenced by thermocycling, whereas Biscem$^{(R)}$ group was not influenced (P<.05). There were no significant differences in the bond strength between the three groups without thermocycling, but there was significant differences between Unicem$^{(R)}$ group and Valiolink II$^{(R)}$ group with thermocycling(P<.05). Conclusion: It has been shown to be clinically effective when the self-adhesive resin cements Unicem$^{(R)}$ and Biscem$^{(R)}$ were used instead of the etch-and-rinse resin cement Valiolink II$^{(R)}$ during the bonding of CAD/CAM ceramic inlay restorations with teeth.

This in vitro study compared the remineralization of incipient interproximal caries in the presence of three glass ionomer cements (highly-filled glass ionomer cement, compomer, resin-modified glass ionomer cement) and a resin composite(control). The long-term changes in remineralization caused by each material were evaluated by microtomography. Proximal restoration was simulated by placing tooth specimens and the various glass ionomer cements in closed containers with artificial saliva at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0 for 30 days with constant circulation Tomographic images were obtained with a micro CT scanner at 90, 180, and 270 days, and density-measuring software was used to calculate the micro-density of artificial caries lesions in the specimens. The mean density changes were compared between groups in order to evaluate the effects of remineralization. All data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the post-HOC Tukey multiple comparison test at p<0.05. While the density of artificial caries lesions increased for all treatments, the increases for the three glass ionomer groups were significantly higher than that for the resin group in each three month period. As time went on, the amount of density increase of the glass ionomer groups decreased, and significant differences were found between the remineralization effects of the glass ionomer groups.
In order to investigate the hydrogeochemical characteristics and contamination of dissolved major ions and heavy metals in the Tancheon River, river water and sediment samples were collected at 18 locations, along a distance of 69 km, between Yongin-si in Kyunggi-do and Samsung-dong in Seoul on October in 2000 and April in 2001. After appropriate sample preparation, waters were analyzed for the dissolved constituents and sediments. The pH values of river waters were in the range of 7.0 to 9.3 and could be plotted in the area of surface environment. The level of $Ca^{2+}$, , CI-, sol-, N0$_{3}$ and HC0$_{3}$ in the Tancheon River were higher than those in world average river water. Most of dissolved constituents in the river waters increased toward downstream from upstream. In particular, high concentrations of Zn2+, Na$_{+}$, CI$^{-}$, SO$_{4}^{2-}$ and N03- were found near densely residential areas and the Sungnam waste water treatment plant. The relative ion enrichment was caused by the inflow of local domestic and industrial sewages. Also, Ca2+ and HC03- concentrations were enriched in the middle of the Tancheon River due to the dissolution of cements. This indicates that the apartment complexes were built on a large scale in the upriver since these ten years and large amounts of construction materials such as cements were flowed into the Tancheon River. Concentrations of heavy metals (Mn, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn) in sediments from the Tancheon River exceeded the lower limit of tolerence level in bottom sediment established by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (OME) of Canada. In particular, these metals were highly elevated in sediment (TSM-12) collected from near the Sungnam waste water treatment plant. Heavy metals were higher enriched in sediments collected from dry period rather than wet period.
The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of adhesion bridge by various resin cements. One hundred and foully 1st premolars were used. The teeth were cut below 2mm from CEJ and the coronal portions were used. The coronal portions were embeded with the acrylic resin and trimmed with sic paper until the flat plane with ${\phi}$ 4mm above acrylic resin sticks in height 5mm were casted with nonprecious metal and the using surfaces were treated with sic paper from #200 to #1200 and polished with alminum oxide paste. And then, the using surfaces were sandblasted and treated with the electrochemical etching. The teeth were divided into three groups of fourty two each. In group I, teeth and specimens were cemented with Panavia 21 In group II, teeth and specimens were cemented with Superbond In group I, teeth and specimens were cemented with All-Bond & composite resin cement Each group was subdivided into three subgroups according to the storage period ; one-day storage, fifteen-day storage, and thirty-day storage. The special jig was made. Then, the specimen and jig were mounted to Instron Universal Testing Machine and the failure were measured. The results were as follows. 1. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of group I and group II and III after one day storage(P<0.01), 2. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of group II and group I and III and between group I and group III at fifteen day storage(P<0.01). 3. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of group I and II and group III after thirty day storage(P<0.01). 4. There was statisfically significant difference between the failure loads of one day storage and fifteen and thirty days storages in group III (P<0.01).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference in shear bonding strength between resin cements to dental materials when a universal primer (Monobond plus) was applied in place of a conventional primer. Materials and methods: Four groups of testing materials: gold alloy (Argedent Euro, n = 16), non precious metal (T-4, n = 20), zirconia (Cercon, n = 20) and glass ceramic (IPS e.max press, n = 20), were fabricated into discs, which were embedded in an acrylic resin matrix. The gold alloy specimens were airborne-particle abraded, 8 of the specimens were coated with Metal primer II, while the remaining 8 specimens were coated with Monobond plus. The non precious and zirconia specimen were airborne-particle abraded then, the control group received Alloy primer coating, while the other was coated with Monobond plus. Glass ceramic specimens were etched. 10 specimens were coated with Monobond-S and the remaining specimens were coated using Monobond plus. On top of the surface, Multilink N was polymerized in a disc shape. All of the specimens were thermal cycled before the shear bonding strength was measured. Statistical analysis was done with Two sample $t$-test or Mann-Whitney U test (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: There were no significant differences in bonding strength depending on the type of primer used in the gold alloy and glass ceramic groups ($P$>.05), however, the bonding strengths of resin cements to non precious metal and zirconia groups, were significantly higher when the alloy primer was used ($P$<.05). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, improvement of universal primers which can be applied to all types of restorations is recommended to precious metals and zirconia ceramics. But, the bond strengths of non precious metals and zirconia ceramics were significantly lower when compared to a 10-MDP primer. More research is needed to apply universal primers to all types of restorations.
Microbialites are defined as rocks formed by microbial organisms. After their first appearance around 3.5 billion years ago, microbialites occur in various depositional environments throughout geological periods. Microbial organisms form microbialites by trapping and binding detrital sediments and/or precipitating carbonate cements, resulting in formation of various microstructures and mesostructures. Four major types of microbialites are distinguished based on their mesostructures: stromatolite, thrombolite, dendrolite, and leiolite. In the geological records, occurrences of microbialites are influenced by calcium carbonate saturation of seawater and interaction of microbialites with metazoans. Stromatolites mainly flourished during the Precambrian, and diminished as level of atmospheric carbon dioxide declined. On the other hand, thrombolites, mainly formed by calcified microbes, began to flourish from the Neoproterozoic. As metazoans diversified in the Phanerozoic, proportion of the microbialites within sedimentary record declined. Since then, microbialites only occasionally flourished during the Phanerozoic, such as shortly after mass-extinction events. In the Korean Peninsula, microbialites occur in the Neoproterozoic Sangwon System, the Early Paleozoic Joseon Supergroup, and the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Supergroup, which form different shapes according to their age and depositional environments. By performing detailed studies on these Korean microbialites, it is possible to understand how microbes affected geological records and sedimentary environments, as well as their interaction with other organisms.
The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of pit and fissure sealant containing cerium oxide nano particles(CNP). Used to mix with pit and fissure sealant (ConciseTM, USA). CNP was added into liquid (0- 4.0 wt%) of pit and fissure sealant. The specimens for the vickers hardness (VHN; 10 × 2 mm), Three-point flexure (FS; 2 × 2 × 25 mm) with flexure modulus (FM) were obtained from cements at 1, 7, and 14 days after storing in (37±1)℃ distilled water. All mechanical strength tests were conducted using machine (Instron 3344) with a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. Data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Duncan posthoc test(p<0.05). Mechanical properties of conventional pit and fissure sealant could be enhanced by addition of CNP. Three-point flexure and modulus of pit and fissure sealant containing CNP were showed a slightly higher value not significantly with the group(p>0.05). The vickers hardness values were increase significantly with incubation time(p<0.05). Results indicated that CNP can be used considered as potential reinforcing agent for increasing mechanical properties for conventional pit and fissure sealant. Therefore, it was suggest that the additional effects of CNP and research on a wide range of substances.
