The objective of this study was to perform 3D solid modeling from 3D scanned surface images of cotton and silk in order to calculate the thermal heat transfer responses using numerical simulations. Continuing from the previous methodology, which provided 3D surface data for a fabric through optical measurements of the fabric microstructure, a simplified 3D solid model, containing a defined unit cell, pattern unit and fabric structure, was prepared. The loft method was used for 3D solid-model generation, and heat transfer calculations, made for the fabric, were then carried out using the 3D solid model. As a result, comprehensive protocols for 3D solid-model generation were established based on the optical measurements of real fabric samples. This method provides an effective means of using 3D information for building 3D models of actual fabrics and applying the model in numerical simulations. The developed process can be used as the basis for other analogous research areas to investigate the physical characteristics of any fabrics.
This paper presents a numerical study on multiphase flows induced by wall adhesion The CSF(Continuum Surface Force} model is used for the calculation of the surface tension force and implemented in an in-house solution code(PowerCFD). The present method(code) employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with volume capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing As an application of the present method, the effects of wall adhesion are numerically simulated with the CSF model for a shallow pool of water located at the bottom of a cylindrical tank. Two different cases are computed, one in which the water wets the wall and one in which the water does not wet the wall. It is found that the present method simulates efficiently and accurately surface tension-dominant multiphase flows induced by wall adhesion.
In this paper, both theoretical and experimental investigations have been performed to examine the effects of key operating parameters on the cell performance of a DMFCs (i.e., methanol feed concentration and operating temperature). For experiment, the membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) were prepared using a conventional MEA fabrication method based on a catalyst coated electrode (CCE) and tested under various cell temperatures and methanol feed concentrations. The polarization curve measurements were conducted using in-house-made $25cm^2$ MEAs. The voltage-current density data were collected under three different cell temperatures ($50^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, and $70^{\circ}C$) and four different methanol feed concentrations (1 M, 2 M, 3 M, and 4 M). The experimental data indicate that the measured I-V curves are significantly altered, depending on these conditions. On the other hand, previously developed one-dimensional, two-phase DMFC model is simulated under the same operating conditions used in the experiments. The model predictions compare well with the experimental data over a wide range of these operating conditions, which demonstrates the validity and accuracy of the present DMFC model. Furthermore, both simulation and experimental results exhibit the strong influences of methanol and water crossover rates through the membrane on DMFC performance and I-V curve characteristics.
In this study, a 3D numerical model was used to predict nonlinear wave forces on a cylindrical pile installed in a shallow water region. The model was based on solving the viscous and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for a two-phase flow (water and air) model and the volume of fluid method for treating the free surface of water. A new application was developed based on the cut-cell method to allow easy installation of complicated obstacles (e.g., bottom geometry and cylindrical pile) in a computational domain. Free-surface elevation, water particle velocities, and inline wave forces were calculated, and the results show good agreement with experimental data obtained by the Danish Hydraulic Institute. The simulation results revealed that the proposed model can, without the use of empirical formulas (i.e., Morison equation) and additional wave analysis models, reliably predict non-linear wave forces on an offshore wind turbine foundation installed in a shallow water region.
This paper describes the construction of an anisotropic three dimensional ventricular model based on the bidomain model. The cardiac artivation process in the normal cardiac cell and the myocardiac ischemic cell are simulated by the Huygen's principle. The depolarization process in the myocardial ischemia displays the delayed activation compared to the normal state. The repolarization process is simulated by the myocardial potential at the arbitrary ellapsed time after activation process.
The modelling of PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) has been studied in many kinds of methods. But there are some limitations in application of the developed models to analysis transient phenomena of power systems. The PSCAD/EMTDC is very popular simulation tool in power system areas. To analysis power systems interconnected to PEMFCs, the PSCAD/EMTDC model of the PEMFCs is needed. In this paper, we developed a PSCAD/EMTDC model of PEMFC based on electro-chemical characteristic equations of PEMFC. Also, we performed simulations using the developed model in the PSCAD/EMTDC program and tested appropriateness of the proposed the models. The simulations showed good results.

The repolarization process is simulated by the myocardial potential at the arbitrary ellapsed time after activation process. Using the potential data, the equivalent cardiac source at the arbitrary time can be computed. In conclusion, this simulation suggests the possibilities of the depolarization and the repolarization process in the normal and abnormal myocardiac cells.
