Study of Design & CFD Analysis for Partial DPF Utilizing Metal Foam (금속폼을 이용한 Partial DPF의 설계 및 전산유체해석 연구)

  • DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter)s have been used to reduce the most of PM(particulate matters) from the exhaust emissions of diesel engine vehicles. Metal foam is one of promising materials for the DPFs due to its cost effectiveness, good thermal conductivity and high mechanical strength. It can be fabricated with various pore sizes and struct thickness and coated with catalytic wash-coats with low cost. In order to design metal foam filter and analyze the flow phenomena, pressure drop and filtration experiment are carried out. Partial DPF which has PM reduction efficiency of more than 50 % is designed in this paper. Also, CFD analysis are performed for different configurations of clean filters in terms of pressure drop, uniformity index, and velocity magnitude at face of filter. Filter thickness and the gap between front and rear filters are optimized and recommended for manufacturing purpose.

  • In the cement industry, NOx emission is recognized as an important problem, and NOx reduction technologies can be divided into process change, staged combustion, low NOx burner, selective non-catalytic reduction and selective catalytic reduction method. The operation of the selective non-catalytic reduction method, which is the most used in the cement industry, is expected to make it difficult to meet the emission standards to be strengthened in the future, and it is necessary to improve equipment such as SCR and secure technologies. Recently, we are developing technologies for simultaneous application of SNCR and SCR, dust and denitrification filter technology, and removal technology using NO oxidation.

  • 산업 발전에 따른 대기오염물질의 배출로 인한 대기오염은 날로 심각해지고 있다. 대기오염물질중 NO는 제어에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있는데 NOx의 배연 처리 기술중 가장 보편화되어 있는 기술은 선택적 촉매 환원법(selective catalytic reduction, SCR)이다. 그중 암모니아(NH$_3$)를 환원제로 사용한 SCR법이 가장 널리 사용되고 있는데 이러한 NH$_3$에 의한 탈질공정은 미반응 NH$_3$의 배출, 경제성 등의 문제점이 있어 다른 환원제 즉 urea나 hydrocarbon을 사용하는 탈질기술의 개발이 요구되고 있으며, 특히 hydrocarbon이나 alcohol 계열을 이용한 SCR법에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다.   • A study of the treatment of piggery wastes using a multilayered metal-activated carbon system followed by carbon bed filtration was carried out at bench scale. From the physicochemical properties obtained from samples treated with aqueous solutions containing metallic ions such as Ag$^+$, Cu$^{2+}$, Na$^{-}$, K$^+$ and Mn$^{2+}$, main inspections are subjected to isothem shape, pore distribution with micropore, SEM and EDX. Multilayered metal-activated carbons were contacted to waste water to inwestigate the simultaneous catalytic effect for the COD, BOD, T-N and T-P removal. From these removal performance was achieved. The high efficiency of the multilayered metal-activated carbon bed, satisfactory removal performance was achieved. The high efficiency of the multilayered metal-activated carbon bed was derermined by the properties of this material for trapping, catalytic effect and adsorption of organic solid particles.

  • Diesel particulate filter (DPF) systems are being used to reduce the particulate matter emission of diesel vehicles. The DPF should be regenerated after certain driving hours or distance to eliminate soot in the filter. The most widely used method is active regeneration with oxygen at $550{\sim}650^{\circ}C$. Syngas (synthetic gas) can be used to lower the regeneration temperature of Catalyzed DPF (CDPF). The syngas is formed by fuel reforming process of CPOx (Catalytic Partial Oxidation) at specific engine condition (1500rpm, 2bar) using 1wt.% $Rh/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ catalyst. The oxidation characteristics of PM with syngas supplied to filter were studied using partial flow system that can control temperature and flow rate independently. The filter is coated with washcoat loading of $25g/ft^3$ $Pt/Al_2O_3-CeO_2$, and multi-channel CDPF (MC-CDPF) was used. The filter regeneration experiments were performed to investigate the effect of syngas exothermic reaction on soot oxidation in the filter. For this purpose, before oxidation experiment, PM was collected about 8g/L to the filter at engine condition of 1500rpm, bmep 8bar and flow temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ Various conditions of temperature and concentration of syngas were used for the tests. Regeneration of filter started at 2% $H_2$ and CO concentration respectively and inlet temperature of $260^{\circ}C$. Filter Regeneration occurs more actively as the syngas concentration becomes higher.

Study on Surface Modification of Ti Substrate to Improve the Dispersion of Catalytic Metals on Synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes (탄소나노튜브 합성 시 촉매 금속의 분산도 향상을 위한 Ti Substrate의 표면 개질 연구)

  • This paper describes the surface modification effect of a Ti substrate for improved dispersibility of the catalytic metal. Etching of a pure titanium substrate was conducted in 50% $H_2SO_4$, $50^{\circ}C$ for 1 h-12 h to observe the surface roughness as a function of the etching time. At 1 h, the grain boundaries were obvious and the crystal grains were distinguishable. The grain surface showed micro-porosities owing to the formation of micro-pits less than $1{\mu}m$ in diameter. The depths of the grain boundary and micro-pits appear to increase with etching time. After synthesizing the catalytic metal and growing the carbon nano tube (CNT) on Ti substrate with varying surface roughness, the distribution trends of the catalytic metal and grown CNT on Ti substrate are discussed from a micro-structural perspective.

Numerical Calculations for the Optimal Performance of Regenerative Catalytic Oxidation(RCO) (축열식 촉매 산화(RCO) 반응의 성능 최적화를 위한 전산 해석)

  • The computational fluid dynamics was analyzed for the pressure distribution, stream velocity distribution, stream line field, retention time and temperature distribution which are applied to the catalyst layer in the RCO reactor to derive the optimum operating condition of the heat condensing type catalytic oxidation (RCO) reactor. The results from the computational analysis revealed that the pressure loss due to the ceramic honeycomb in the catalytic bed of the reactor which is operating currently is not significant and the stream velocity (1.8~2.7 m/s) after the ceramic filter is working in stability without big channeling. To improve the stream velocity distribution of the air stream, it is necessary to extension of the connecting range between the plenum and catalytic bed inside the facility. However, the method of attaching the air stream guide vane or the perforated plate inside the reactor was not so effective.
