This work provides the fundamental knowledge of energy transport characteristics during very short-pulse laser heating of semiconductors from a microscopic viewpoint. Based on the self-consistent hydrodynamic equations, in-situ interactions between carriers, optical phonons, and acoustic phonons are simulated to figure out energy transport mechanism during ultrafast pulse laser heating of a silicon substrate through the detailed information on the time and spatial evolutions of each temperature for carriers, longitudinal optical (LO) phonons, acoustic phonons. It is found that nonequilibrium between LO phonons and acoustic phonons should be considered for ultrafast pulse laser heating problem, two-peak structures become apparently present for the subpicosecond pulses because of the Auger heating. A substantial increase in carrier temperature is observed for lasers with a few picosecond pulse duration, whereas the temperature rise of acoustic and phonon temperatures is relatively small with decreasing laser pulse widths. A slight lagging behavior is observed due to the differences in relaxation times and heat capacities between two different phonons. Moreover, the laser fluence has a significant effect on the decaying rate of the Auger recombination.
The Poly (4-vinyipyridine-co-styrene) membrane containing Pyridine as fixed carrier was synthesized and characterized. And the active transport mechanism of Cl- and $CCl_3COO^-$ with changing concentration of $H^+$ and $OH^-$ was investigated. $CCl_3COO^-$ was transported not only by a symport mechanism with $H^+$ transfer but also by an antiport mechanism with $OH^-$transfer, while $Cl^-$ was transported only by a symport mechanism with $H^+$ transfer. Observing the initial flux of anions, salt formation constant between ions and membrane (K), and diffusion coefficient in membrane (D) were calculated as follows: for $Cl^-, \;K=4.60{\times}10^2\;mol^{-1}{\cdot}\textrm{cm}^3, \;D=1.57{\times}10^{-3}{\textrm{cm}^2/h$ and for $CCl_3COO^-, \;K=1.l0{\times}10^4\;mol^{-1}{\cdot}\textrm{cm}^3, \;D=1.14{\times}10^{-4}{\textrm{cm}^2}/h$.

Ability to transport extracted carriers from NQDs is essential for the development of most NQD based applications. Strategies to facilitate carrier transport while preserving NQDs' optical characteristics include: 1) Fabricating neat films of NQDs with modified surfaces either by adapting series of ligands with certain limitations or by applying physical processes such as heat annealing 2) Coupling of NQDs to one-dimensional nanostructures such as single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) or various types of nanowires. NQD-nanowire hybrid nanostructures are expected to facilitate selective wavelength absorption, charge transfer to 1-D nanostructures, and efficient carrier transport. Even with the vast interests in using NQD-SWNT hybrid materials in optoelectric applications, still, no reports so far have clearly elucidated the optoelectric behavior when they were assembled on the FET mainly because the complexity involving in both components in their preparation and characterization. We have monitored the optical properties of both components (NQDs, SWNTs) from the synthesis, to the assembly, and to the device. More importantly, by using pyridine molecules as a linker to non-covalently attach NQDs to SWNTs, we were able to assemble NQDs on SWNTs with precise density control without harming their electronic structures. Furthermore, by measuring electrical signals from the fabricated aligned SWNTs-FET using dielectrophoresis (DEP), we were able to elucidate the charge transfer mechanism.
Imperatorin, a major bioactive furanocoumarin with multifunctions, can be used for treating neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of imperatorin transport in the brain. Experiments of the present study were designed to study imperatorin transport across the blood-brain barrier both in vivo and in vitro. In vivo study was performed in rats using single intravenous injection and in situ carotid artery perfusion technique. Conditionally immortalized rat brain capillary endothelial cells were as an in vitro model of blood-brain barrier to examine the transport mechanism of imperatorin. Brain distribution volume of imperatorin was about 6 fold greater than that of sucrose, suggesting that the transport of imperatorin was through the blood-brain barrier in physiological state. Both in vivo and in vitro imperatorin transport studies demonstrated that imperatorin could be transported in a concentration-dependent manner with high affinity. Imperatorin uptake was dependent on proton gradient in an opposite direction. It was significantly reduced by pretreatment with sodium azide. However, its uptake was not inhibited by replacing extracellular sodium with potassium or N-methylglucamine. The uptake of imperatorin was inhibited by various cationic compounds, but not inhibited by TEA, choline and organic anion substances. Transfection of plasma membrane monoamine transporter, organic cation transporter 2 and organic cation/carnitine transporter 2/1 siRNA failed to alter imperatorin transport in brain capillary endothelial cells. Especially, tramadol, clonidine and pyrilamine inhibited the uptake of [$^3H$]imperatorin competitively. Therefore, imperatorin is actively transported from blood to brain across the blood-brain barrier by passive and carrier-mediated transporter.

This paper has applied a simple model to the mass transfer mechanism of Cr(VI) with crownether in a batch-type, supported liquid membrane module. Concentration at pH 3 are as follows : 0.012 kmol/$m^3{\le}$18-crown-6${\le}$0.036 kmol/$m^3$ and 20 g/$m^3{\le}$ Cr(VI)${\le}$500 g/$m^3$. The measured values of forward- and backward-reaction rate constants between Cr(VI) and 18-crown-6 were used to simulate the model with the mass conservation equation and associated boundary conditions. Comparison between the experimental and simulated facilitated factor of Cr(VI) transport led to classification of reaction regions.

Valacyclovir is a L-valyl ester prodrug of acyclovir which is a highly effective and selective antiviral agent in the treatment of herpes virus diseases. Valacyclovir is rapidly and almost completely converted to acyclovir and increases the oral bioavailability of acyclovir three to five fold. However, the intestinal absorption mechanism of valacyclovir is not clear. If the improved absorption mechanism of valacyclovir is fully understood, it will provide a rationale of designing the amino acid ester prodrugs of polar drugs containing hydroxyl group. The main objective of our present study is to characterize the membrane transport mechanism of valacyclovir. Methods : Intestinal absorption of valacyclovir was investigated by using in-situ rat perfusion study and its wall permeability was estimated by modified boundary layer model. The membrane transport mechanism was also investigated through the uptake study in Caco-2 cells and in CHO-hPepTl cells. Results : In the rat perfusion study, the wall permeability of valacyclovir was ten times higher than acyclovir and showed concentration dependency, Valacyclovir also demonstrated a D,L stereo-selectivity with L-isomer having an approximately five-fold higher permeability than D-isomer. Mixed dipeptides and cephalexin, which are transported by dipeptide carriers, strongly competed with valacyclovir for the intestinal absorption, while L-valine did not show any competition with valacyclovir. This indicated that the intestinal absorption of valacyclovir could be dipeptide carrier-mediated. In addition, the competitive uptake study in Caco-2 cells presented that dipeptides reduced the valacyclovir uptake but valine did not. Also, in IC$\sub$50/ study, valacyclovir showed strong inhibition on the $^3$H-gly-sar uptake in CHO-hPepTl cells over-expressing a human intestinal peptide transporter. Taken together, the result from our present study indicated that valacyclovir utilized the peptide transporter for the intestinal absorption.

Strategies to facilitate carrier transfer/transport while preserving confined characteristics of isolated nanocrystal quantum dots (NQDs) will be discussed. Specifically, synthesis and characterizations of 1) the fabrication of neat NQD solids (assembled NQD films) with modified surfaces by attaching ligands or by applying physical processes such as heat annealing [J. Phys. Chem. C (2011), 115(3), 607] and 2) coupling NQDs to one-dimensional nanostructures such as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) [ACS Nano, (2010) 4(1), 324] will be presented. Further, recent achievement ours of fabricating NQDs assemblies into photovoltaic devices for elucidating transfer mechanism witll be discussed.
Transporters are membrane proteins that mediate the transfer of substrate across the cellular membrane. In this overview, the characteristics and the toxicological relevance were discussed for various types of transporters. For drug transporters, the overview focused on ATP-binding cassette transporters and solute carrier family 21A/22A member transporters. Except for OCTN transporters and OATP transporters, drug transporters tend to have broad substrate specificity, suggesting drug-drug interaction at the level of transport processes (e.g., interaction between methotrexate and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents) is likely. For metal transporters, transporters for zinc, copper and multiple metals were discussed in this overview. These metal transporters have comparatively narrow substrate specificity, except for multiple metal transporters, suggesting that inter-substrate interaction at the level of transport is less likely. In contrast, the expressions of the transporters are often regulated by their substrates, suggesting cellular adaptation mechanism exists for these transporters. The drug-drug interactions in drug transporters and the cellular adaptation mechanisms for metal transporters are likely to lead to alterations in pharmacokinetics and cellular metal homeostasis, which may be linked to the development of toxicity. Therefore, the transporter-mediated alterations may have toxicological relevance.

We demonstrate the high temperature-dependent electrical behavior at 2D multilayer MoS2 transistor. Our previous reports explain that the extracted field-effect mobility of good device was inversely proportional to the increase of temperature. Because scattering mechanism is dominated by phonon scattering at a well-designed MoS2 transistor, having, low Schottky barrier. However, mobility at an immature our $MoS_2$ transistor (${\mu}m$ < $10cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$) is proportional to the increase temperature. The existence of a big Schottky barrier at $MoS_2-Ti$ junction can reduce carrier transport and lead to lower transistor conductance. At high temperature (380K), the field-effect mobility of multilayer $MoS_2$ transistor increases from 8.93 to $16.9cm^2V^{-1}sec^{-1}$, which is 2 times higher than the value at room temperature. These results demonstrate that carrier transport at an immature $MoS_2$ with a high Schottky barrier is mainly affected by thermionic emission over the energy barrier at high temperature.
Silver species other than the silver ion were formed by UV irradiation on polymer electrolyte membranes containing silver salts and their effect on complexation behavior between the silver and olefin was investigated through the separation performance of olefin/paraffin mixtures. The ideal propylene/propane separation factor reached 350 and the separation coefficient was ca.15 due to the high loading amount of silver ions into poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (POZ) without UV irradiation. On UV irradiation either in air or under nitrogen, the silver-POZ membranes became yellow-brown initially due to the formation of colloidal silver particles, and finally black and metal-like luster. Even when Ag$^{+}$ was converted, to some extent, to Ag$^{\circ}$ by UV irradiation in air at the early stage, the separation coefficient of olefin/paraffin mixtures was maintained. This suggests that silver species other than the silver ion is active for olefin carrier for facilitated transport. Meanwhile the steady decrease of the separation coefficient was observed in the silver/POZ membranes irradiated under $N_2$. It is suggested that the reduction of silver ions in POZ goes through a different photoreduction mechanism with UV irradiation depending on the environment.t.
