Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of nurses' psycho-social health and social support from colleagues on patient caring ability. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used and the participants in this study were 422 nurses from 3 general hospitals. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis with the SAS 9.4 program. Results: Total mean score for psychosocial health was $3.15{\pm}0.57$, for social support from colleagues, $3.43{\pm}0.55$, and for caring ability, $4.04{\pm}0.53$. Psychosocial health, social support from colleagues, and married status were identified as significant factors influencing patient caring ability. Conclusion: Findings from this study indicate that psychosocial health and social support from colleagues are related to patient caring ability, and thus, to improve nurses' caring ability for patient and for self, it is important to create a work environment that keeps nurses healthy and promotes collaboration with colleagues.
This study explored a typology (or time allocation), investigated personal and work characteristic differences among time allocation types, and identified determinants of time allocation types of married working women with a preschool child. The data source for this research was the 2014 Time Use Survey conducted by Statistics Korea. We analyzed 368 time diaries (184 for weekdays and 184 for weekends) using frequency, mean, cluster analysis, chisquare, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Duncan's test, and multinomial logistic analysis. The results of this research are as follows. Time allocation of married working women with a preschool child was classified into three different types of 'work-centered,' 'work-family balanced,' and 'family-centered.' The work-centered type accounted for 14.7% of total respondents, and compared with other types, this type of people spent more time working, and less time doing house-work, caring for family, and having leisure. The work-family balanced type represents more than half of the total, and spend more time working on weekdays and house-working, having leisure on weekends. The family-centered type represents 28.8%, and spends most of the time doing house-work and caring for family on both weekdays and weekends. Occupation, employment status, monthly income, and weekly hours of work were different for each type. Occupation, employment status, perception of lack of time, health condition, and weekly hours of work were identified as determinants for each type.
Background: In Japan, more than 60% of employees are reported to suffer from anxiety and stress. Consequently, Japanese society has begun to address such important issues as psychogenic disability and job-related suicide. Furthermore, given the aging of society and the surge in the number of elderly people requiring care, it is necessary to adequately and proactively support employees who care for their elderly relatives. The purpose of the present study was to investigate caregiver burden in caring for elderly relatives and work-related stress factors associated with mental health among employees. Methods: We studied 722 men and women aged 18-83 years in a cross-sectional study. The K10 questionnaire was used to examine mental health status. Results: The proportion of participants with a high K10 score was 15% (n = 106). Having little conversation with their supervisor and/or coworkers significantly increased the risk of depression [odds ratio (OR) 1.8], as did high job overload (OR 2.7) and job dissatisfaction (OR 3.8), compared with employees who frequently conversed with their supervisor and/or coworkers. Caring for elderly relatives as a prominent characteristic of an employee was a significant risk factor for depression (OR 2.1). Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that employees who were caring for elderly relatives were significantly associated with an increased risk of depression. To prevent depressive disorders, it may be important to focus on reducing the work-caregiving role conflict, as well as enhancing employees' job control and better rewarding their efforts in the workplace.

The purpose of this study was to understand family changes and dynamics of and to suggest institutional/policy-level tasks for coping with them, by paying attention to changing family values of single-person households and their caring work performed in everyday life. This study selected 11 single-person households residing in Ulsan by considering their age and marital status, and analyzed their overall daily lives, family values, and the characteristics of household work and caring. The characteristics of these single-person households in Ulsan, not only showed the coexistence of "simplicity, but instability" when maintaining and living their own lives, but also showed the ambivalent characteristics of family values by showing a gap between the perception and reality of diversity. In regard to family life, the participants complained of difficulties in "caring and relationship of family of origin" and the "economic factors", and notably showed the "dual value system". For a more stable life, the single-person households were forming social networks to relieve a sense of isolation and loneliness, and to recover relationships, instead of limiting themselves to only the traditional method of family formation. Thus, it would be possible to respond to family changes when changes are promoted in each area of "the perception of life", "family life", and the "family & social relationship", and this research suggests policy-level tasks based on the results of this study.

The goals of nursing education, and the bases for evaluating them depend on the goals of nursing practice. In order to prepare for the coming twenty first century and the meet changing societal demands and health needs, it is necessary to develop a new conceptual framework for future nursing education. While hospitals will still be in significant components of the health care system, will no longer be central focus or dominant influence. Health care services will be more usually delivered at community base. The nursing education required by that new approach must provide for reconsidered about a concept of caring as nursing curriculum. The changes in health care delivery that have occured, now being proposed, for nursing education undergoing its own changes. So the philosophy and objectives of education meed to reconsidering about the caring concept and general nursing. Nurse educators must prepare students to practic in condition of constant change. At the same time nurse educators must emphasize preparation about that. The practice of science of caring in nursing draws on a basic knowledge of the behavioral knowledge, biophysical processes, pathological processes, nursing skills and procedures and various treatment regimes and problem solving to help decision making in nursing situations. The concept of care is probably one of the least understood ideas used by professional and nonprofessional people, yet it is probably one of the most improtant concepts to be understood by nursing. Human caring and human relationships are closely interrelated. Humn caring remains an essential dimension of professional work and the science of caring as essental to the discipline of nursing. It is expected that the objectives of nursing education will be accomplished when the course and content of the curriculum are based on this conceptual framework. One recurrent education goal with some consistency is that of equipping the student with the necessary skills to live effectively and productivly in the world of tomorrow. In the new vision we are developing, professional education must also include exposure to liberal arts, encouragement of critical thinking, and a moral context for advanced professional education that is based upon a contextual health policy and caring science educational model.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors affecting nursing performance of delirium among general hospital clinical nurses. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study and conducted from July 20 to July 30 2015, with a sample consisting of 167 registered nurses in three general hospitals. Data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0. Results: Nursing performance of delirium had significant positive correlations with knowledge about delirium (r=.25, p=.001), self-confidence in caring for patients with delirium (r=.45, p<.001) and nursing work environment (r=.29, p<.001). In this study, factors affecting nursing performance of delirium were self-confidence in caring for patients with delirium (${\beta}=.33$, p<.001), nursing work environment (${\beta}=.26$, p<.001), experience in nursing education about delirium(${\beta}=.18$, p=.007) and clinical experience (${\beta}=.18$, p=.007). The factors explained 32% of nursing performance of delirium. Conclusion: This study's results can be used as basic data to develope educational programs related to delirium care through continuing education and to improve work environments in developing strategies to enhance nursing performance for patients with delirium.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to have an in-depth understanding of delivery room nurses' experiences of caring for stillborn babies and their parents. Methods: After obtaining approval from the Institutional Review Board, data were collected from March 1 to August 30, 2016. A total of six nurses participated in the study. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted and the data subsequently analyzed. Results: Using thematic analysis, six themes were defined and refined: Emotional distress as a result of encountering stillborn babies; Caring for the deceased baby; Concerns for the mother's pain; Consideration for the father; Conflicts between accepting and dismissing parents' requests; and Strong mindset for the stillborn babies and their parents. Conclusion: The results showed that the nurses' experiences of caring for stillborn babies and their parents might be a difficult and lonely process. However, it could also be a process of attaining maturity by finding meaning and value in one's work. It would be helpful for the delivery room nurses to share examples of effective communication, train through simulation, and learn useful strategies that each nurse can use.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among attitude toward caring for the elderly and geriatric nursing practice and the influencing factors on geriatric nursing practice of nurses in a general hospital. Data were collected from October 1 to October 30, 2017 by questionnaires from 228 nurses who work at a general hospital in B city. The data were analyzed by IBM SPSS statistics 20.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The average score of attitude toward caring the elderly was 3.39 and geriatric nursing practice was 3.21. Significant correlation were found among attitude toward caring the elderly and geriatric nursing practice. According to the research, the significant factors influencing geriatric nursing practice were attitude toward caring the elderly, total clinical careers, elderly education experience influences the attitude toward the elderly, the present working department, have a friendly elderly person, and these factors explained 30.4%. Based on these findings, it is necessary to develop and apply a program to improve positive attitude of care for the elderly to hospital nurses and a program to promote the geriatric nursing practice.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a deeper understanding of the experience of mothers caring for children with epilepsy. Methods: Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews and observation from 12 mothers of children with epilepsy. Data were collected from December, 2014 to February, 2015 and analyzed using van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological methodology to identify essential themes of their experience. Results: The essential themes that fit into the context of the 4-existential grounds of time, body, other people, and space were: Lived time-ongoing influence of the past, living in insecure present, fearful future with no answer; Lived body-bonded body, burned out state; Lived other-burden but also support, shrunken down; Lived space-narrowed range of activity, widened horizon. Conclusion: The findings in this study show in-depth understanding of the hardships of mothers who are caring for children with epilepsy. The beauty and greatness of these mothers are revealed through the analysis of various phenomenological materials such as literary and artistic work reflecting socio-cultural context, as well as vivid care experiences of mothers of children with epilepsy. This will be helpful in increasing understanding of the nature of caregivers' experience for medical professionals dealing with patients and caregivers. Also it helps to improve the understanding of the disease among the general public, followed by a more warming and caring attitude towards patients and family members. Finally, it will enhance psychological well-being and overall quality of life of the epileptic children and their families.
This study is to reveal the effects affecting mother' coping resources on caring stress of mothers caring for adult children with developmental disabilities. The research data was collected from the service users recruited from two disability organizations and the disabled community welfare centers in South Korea. The survey was limited to mothers caring for adult children with developmental disabilities over the age of 18. The samples of the study consisted of 119 mothers. The data were analysed through SPSS statistical program. It was used for the analysis method of Frequency analysis, T-test, ANOVA and Step wise regression. Analysis results are as follows: the family support and friend support of social coping resources is affecting in caring stress of mothers. Also, the mothers who is working are more caring stress than unemployed mothers and the mothers who is between 50age and 54age are more caring stress than the mothers of under 49 age. Based on these results, I proposed the idea of several programs for social work practice for community welfare centers based on the results.
