The change of the chemical structure of graphene oxide (GO) was investigated by periodical sampling of GO during exfoliation by using a sonicator. A significant amount of GO was exfoliated during up to 10 hr of sonication. Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed a continuous increase of the G/D or C=C/C=O peak ratio of GO, as the sonication time increases. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity of each GO sample also decreased as a function of the sonication time. PL excitation spectra with three major peaks indicate that the sizes of $sp^2$ carbon clusters were enlarged by longer sonication. In addition, new excitation at around 300 nm proves the existence of newly developed small clusters of $sp^2$ carbons as the sonication time increased.
We report on the dispersion state of partially reduced graphene oxide (PRGO) in organic solvents, namely methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride, toluene, and xylene, by controlling the carbon to oxygen (C/O) atomic ratio of the PRGOs. A two-phase solvent exchange method is also proposed to transfer PRGO from water to an aprotic solvent, such as methyl ethyl ketone. We achieve relatively good dispersion in aprotic and non-polar solvents by controlling the C/O atomic ratio of the PRGOs and applying the two-phase solvent exchange method. There is an increase in the glass transition temperatures with the dispersion of PRGOs into amorphous polymers, in particular a $4.4^{\circ}C$ increase for poly(methyl methacrylate) and $3.0^{\circ}C$ increase for polycarbonate. Good dispersion of PRGO in a nonpolar polymer, such as linear low density polyethylene, is also obtained.
An imprinted potentiometric sensor was developed for direct and selective determination of gabapentin. Sensor is based on carbon paste electrode adapted by graphene oxide that is decorated with silver nanoparticles and mixed with molecularly imprinted polymers nanoparticles using gabapentin as a template molecule. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Under optimal experimental conditions, the studied sensor exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity with LOD of $4.8{\times}10^{-11}mol\;L^{-1}$. It provided a wide linearity range from $1{\times}10^{-10}$ to $1{\times}10^{-3}mol\;L^{-1}$ and high stability for more than 3 mo. The sensor was effectively used for the determination of gabapentin in pharmaceutical tablets and spiked plasma samples.

In this paper, we investigated the performance of synthetic graphene oxide-functionalized carbon nanotubes (GF) to promote cement hydration and increase the mechanical properties of cement paste. The enhancement effect of GF on the various properties of cement paste was evaluated via the mechanical strength, X-ray diffraction, and heat of hydration of cement paste. The results clearly showed that GF incorporation into cement paste promotes the early hydration of cement paste, generates more hydration products, which results in the mechanical improvement of cement paste. The compressive and splitting tensile strength were increased by 32.17% and 17.31%, respectively, compared to ordinary Portland cement at 28 days of hydration.

In this paper, We have studied internal quality incluiding chemical compositions, microscopic structure and nonmetalic inclusion of test material. We have analyzed dynamic characteristics of cutting resistence and compared chip treatment of the test material. In analyzing internal quality, all of the test material have typical ferrite+pearlite structure. But, nonmetallic inclusion has oxide and sulfide inclusion has oxide and sulfide inclusion in medium carbon steel, mainly sulfide inclusion is existed in S-free cutting steel. In Ca+S-free cutting steel, calcium aluminate and sulfide complex inclusion, had low-melting point, as deformation of sulfide and oxide inclusion is existed. Machining characteristics, cutting resistence is maximum in medium carbon steel. Chip treatement are excellent in S-free cutting steel, similar to the Ca+S free cutting steel and medium carbon steel.

The carbon electrode was modified through manganese-catalyzed hydrogenation method for high energy density vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). During the catalytic hydrogenation, the manganese oxide deposited at the surface of the carbon electrode stimulated the conversion reaction from carbon to methane gas. This reaction causes the penetration of the manganese and excavates a number of cavities at electrode surface, which increases the electrochemical activity by inducing additional electrochemically active site. The formation of the porous surface was confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. Finally, the electrochemical performance test of the electrode with the porous surface showed lower polarization and high reversibility in the cathodic reaction compared to the conventional electrode.
The Carbon Dioxide is the gas, which causes green house effects, unusual changes in the weather, destruction of the life. Almost every nation in the world is trying to search the countermeasure to this poisonous gas. I synthesized $Fe_3O_4$ and NaOH, in order to decompose the Carbon Dioxide. Among the particles synthesizing $Fe_3O_4$, I chose the equivalent ratio 1.00 which can decompose the Carbon Dioxide best, and fixed that equivalent ratio and added the 0.005-3.00 mole percentage of NiCl$_2$ and synthesized $Fe_3O_4$. I studied the decomposition of the Carbon Dioxide and methanized reaction, by measuring its crystal structure, thermochemistrical character and specific surface area. In decomposing the Carbon Dioxide, I used oxygen-deficit Magnetite which I produced by injecting the hydrogen gas into the synthesized sample. I observed the methanization reaction by raising the temperature of sample up to 650$\circ$C and having it reacted with the hydrogen gas. The decomposition of the Carbon Dioxide was added 0.005, 0.03, 0.05 mole percentage of NiCl$_2$ was more effective than pure $Fe_3O_4$. All sample in which the decomposition of the Carbon Dioxide took place produced the methane gas.
The microstructures of the oxide scale developed at high temperature on steels are very complex and their development depends on many factors including time, temperature, oxidation conditions and alloying elements. The classical model of an oxide scale on steel consisting of wüstite, magnetite and haematite layers, is more complicated in reality and its properties change with the factors that affect their development. An understanding of the oxide scale formation and its properties can only be achieved by careful examination of the scale microstructure. The oxide scale microstructure may be difficult to characterise by conventional techniques such as optical or standard scanning electron microscopy. An unambiguous characterisation of the scale and the correct identification of the phases within the scale are difficult unless the crystallographic structure for each phase in the scale is considered and a simultaneous microstructure-microtexture analysis is carried out. In the current study Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) has been used to investigate the microstructure of iron oxide layers grown on low carbon steels at different times and temperatures. EBSD has proved to be a powerful technique for identifying the individual phases in the oxide scale accurately. The results show that different grain shapes and sizes develop for each phase in the scale depending on time and temperature.
Adsorption tower systems based on activated carbon adsorption towers have mainly been employed to reduce the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a major cause of air pollution. However, the activated carbon currently used in these systems has a short lifespan and thus requires frequent replacement. An approach to overcome this shortcoming could be to develop metal oxide photocatalysis-activated carbon composites capable of degrading VOCs by simultaneously utilizing photocatalytic activation and powerful adsorption by activated carbon. TiO2 has primarily been used as a metal oxide photocatalyst, but it has low economic efficiency due to its high cost. In this study, ZnO particles were synthesized as a photocatalyst due to their relatively low cost. Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were deposited on the ZnO surface to compensate for the photocatalytic deactivation that arises from the wide band gap of ZnO. A microfluidic process was used to synthesize ZnO particles and Ag NPs in separate reactors and the solutions were continuously supplied with a pack bed reactor loaded with activated carbon powder. This microfluidic-assisted pack bed reactor efficiently prepared a Ag-ZnO-activated carbon composite for VOC removal. Analysis confirmed that Ag-ZnO photocatalytic particles were successfully deposited on the surface of the activated carbon. Conducting a toluene gasbag test and adsorption breakpoint test demonstrated that the composite had a more efficient removal performance than pure activated carbon. The process proposed in this study efficiently produces photocatalysis-activated carbon composites and may offer the potential for scalable production of VOC removal composites.

Some applications of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as field emitters, such as x-ray tubes and microwave amplifiers, require high current emission from a small emitter area. To emit the high current density, CNT emitters should be optimally fabricated in terms of material properties and morphological aspects including high crystallinity, aspect ratio, distribution density, height uniformity, adhesion on a substrate, low outgassing rate during electron emission in vacuum, etc. In particular, adhesion of emitters on the substrate is one of the most important parameters to be secured for high current field emission from CNTs. So, we attempted a novel approach to improve the adhesion of CNT emitters by incorporating metal oxide layers between CNT emitters. In our previous study, CNT emitters were fabricated on a metal mesh by filtrating the aqueous suspensions containing both highly crystalline thin multiwalled CNTs and thick entangled multiwalled CNTs. However, the adhesion of CNT film was not enough to produce a high emission current for an extended period of time even after adopting the metal mesh as a fixing substrate of the CNT film. While a high current was emitted, some part of the film was shown to delaminate. In order to strengthen the CNT networks, cobalt-nickel oxides were incorporated into the film. After coating the oxide layer, the CNT tips seemed to be more strongly adhered on the CNT bush. Without the oxide layer, the field emission voltage-current curve moved fast to a high voltage side as increasing the number of voltage sweeps. With the cobalt-nickel oxide incorporated, however, the curve does not move after the second voltage sweep. Such improvement of emission properties seemed to be attributed to stronger adhesion of the CNT film which was imparted by the cobalt-nickel oxide layer between CNT networks. Observed after field emission for an extended period of time, the CNT film with the oxide layer showed less damage on the surface caused by high current emission.
