A Novel Carbon Nanotube FED Structure and UV-Ozone Treatment

  • A 10" carbon nanotube field emission display device was fabricated with a novel structure with a hopping electron spacer (HES) by screen printing technique. HES plays a role of preventing the broadening of electron beams emitted from carbon nanotubes without electrical discharge during operation. The structure of the novel tetrode is composed of carbon nanotube emitters on a cathode electrode, a gate electrode, an extracting electrode coated on the top side of a HES, and an anode. HES contains funnel-shaped holes of which the inner surfaces are coated with MgO. Electrons extracted through the gate are collected inside the funnel-shaped holes. They hop along the hole surface to the top extracting electrode. In this study the effects of the addition of HES on emission characteristics of field emission display were investigated. An active ozone treatment for the complete removal of residues of organic binders in the emitter devices was applied to the field emission display panel as a post-treatment.

레이저 증착법에 의한 탄소계 박막의 구조 및 전계방출특성 (Deposition of Carbon Thin Film using Laser Ablation and Its Field Emission Properties)

  • Using laser ablation technique carbon thin films were deposited on Si(100) substrate as a function of substrate temperature. In this study, the surface morphologic, structural and field emission properties of these carbon thin films were investigated using Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and a diode technique, respectively. With increasing of the substrate temperature, the surface morphologies were changed significantly. Moreover, the intensity of D-band and the full width at half maximum of these bands were dependent on substrate temperatures. As the substrate temperature was increased, the field emission properties were improved. As the result, we find that the field emission properties of the films were changed significantly with the substrate temperature and structural features of carbon than films.

  • Carbon dioxide emission trading market would play very important role in the global effort to cope with climate change. In KOREA, the energy consumption and geen house gas emission of various industry would be controlled by the low carbon-green growth law which was established at 2009. The paper industry as one of major industries in terms of energy consumption has been greatly required to prepare action plan for addressing this regulation and reduction of carbon dioxide emission. In this study, the current states of carbon dioxide emission trading market were analyzed in terms of practical responses of the paper industry. And the various action plans including CDM projects for paper industry were suggested.

저탄소도시 구현을 위한 전략수립에 관한 연구 (A Study on Strategy for Embodiment of Low Carbon City)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions on urban areas. This study is made up GHG emission estimation and emission prospect methods, setting of GHG reduction target, GHG reduction plan formulation and feasibility assessment. The significance of this study is as follows. First, this study provides the local government for the overall frame of low carbon strategies. Second, this study contribute to establishment of GHG emission reduction strategies in the local autonomy by providing GHG emission estimation and setting reduction target which is essential elements of reduction strategy. Third, we organize a reduction element for low carbon city embodiment and showed the way to assessment the reduction effect of these elements quantitatively.

이중층 탄소나노튜브 전계전자 방출원의 신뢰성 있는 전계방출 특성 (A Reliable Field Emission Performance of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotube Field Emitters)

  • 촉매 화학기상증착법을 이용하여 합성된 이중층 탄소나노튜브를 가지고 전계전자 방출원을 제작하여 이들의 신뢰성 있는 전계전자 방출특성을 조사하였다. 합성된 탄소 필라멘트들은 TEM, TGA, 그리고 Raman 분석을 통하여 결함이 없고 순도가 높은 이중층 탄소나노튜브가 합성이 되었음을 확인하였다. 이들 이중층 탄소나노튜브 전계전자 방출원은 이전극 구조에서 낮은 턴-온 전계와 높은 전류밀도의 전계전자 방출 특성을 보여주었고, 균질한 전계방출 패턴과 좋은 전계방출 안정성을 나타내었다.

유리화 비정형 탄소의 전계방출 거동 (Characterization of field emission behavior from vitreous carbon)

  • Mo이 코팅된 유리기판 상에 전기영동법으로 도포된 유리화 비정형 탄소분말의 전계방출 특성을 조사하였다. 탄소의 $sp^2$결합만으로 이루어진 유리화 비정형 탄소는 전계방출을 얻기 위한 초기화 공정 없이도 규칙적인 전계방출 거동을 보이고 있었다. 전자의 방출이 시작되는 임계전장의 크기는 3에서 4 MV/m 구간의 값을 가지고 있었으며, Fowler-Nordheim plot로부터 평가된 effective work function은 약 0.06 eV였다. 전류전압거동의 반복측정에 의해 관찰된 바와 같이 전계방출의 안정성 면에서 유리화 비정형 탄소는 Si tip보다 우수하였으며, 도포된 전체면적에서 전면발광의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 탄소계 물질에서 관찰되는 전계방출이 탄소의 $sp^3$결합과 밀접하게 관련되어 있지 않으며, 전자가음극물질의 표면으로 이동하는데 필요한 전기전도성, 혹은 기판과 음극물질 계면에서의 전자이동 등이 전계방출의 거동을 결정하는 중요한 요인임을 보여주고 있다.

도시패턴과 탄소배출량의 관계 분석 (An Analysis of Relationship between Carbon Emission and Urban Spatial Patterns)

  • 전 지구적 기후변화인 지구온난화의 주원인으로 지목되고 있는 온실가스는 공간적으로 주로 도시에서 발생하고 있기 때문에 도시차원에서의 대책이 무엇보다 필요하다. 본 연구는 도시형태와 탄소발생량과의 관계를 분석하여 기후변화에 대응한 탄소배출저감형 도시의 형태를 제시하는 것을 궁극적인 목표로 삼고 있다. 이를 위해, 첫째로 도시형태에 대한 이론고찰을 수행하여 도시공간의 물리적 규모, 이용현황, 활동강도와 관련된 도시형태요소를 선정하였다. 둘째, 서울시를 사례로 전력, 도시가스, 지역난방, 석유, 상수도 사용량 자료를 이용하여 이산화탄소 배출량 지도를 작성하였다. 셋째, 이산화탄소 배출량과 도시형태요소와의 관계를 분석하여 도시공간에서 에너지 사용량에 영향을 주는 도시형태를 밝혀내고, 도시계획 측면에서의 시사점을 도출하였다. 본 연구에서 도시형태 요소와 이산화탄소 배출량간의 관계를 분석한 결과는 실제 에너지 사용량에 기반하여 이산화탄소 배출량을 산정하여 활용하였다는 점에서 기존 연구가 지닌 한계를 극복하고, 사례분석을 통해 구체적이고도 결과를 도출하였다는데 그 의의가 있다.

탄소배출 감축제도하의 녹색기후기금에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Green Climate Fund under the System of the Carbon Emission Reduction)

  • Since the Kyoto Protocol was released in 2005, there has been a number of mechanisms about funding and how to allocate the burdens. The UNFCCC(United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)have discussed establishing an international fund to support the reduction of a greenhouse gas. As the availability of adaption finance for developing countries increase, it's needed for a way of prioritizing countries. This article analyzes the carbon reduction system that includes a emission trading scheme, a carbon tax and examines GCF(Green Climate Fund)'s role and needs. A solution to finance Green Climate Fund is more preferred a harmonized carbon tax that across all nations with carbon tax. Especially the role of industrialized countries is important that based on their historical responsibility for fossil fuel emission. That is, they should get more shares of the global costs than developing countries.

환경보호와 목재의 이용 (Environmental Conservation and Wood Utilization)

  • Environmental conservation has become one of the greatest concerns of all the people in the world. This issue is related to wood utilization in two major view points such as carbon dioxide emitted by the use of manufacturing energy and absorbed during the growth of trees. Wood construction materials require less manufacturing energy, which, in turn, means less carbon dioxide emission. In addition, wood keeps absorbed carbon in itself as far as it is not burnt. Therefore, wood is environmentally superior to other materials in terms of potential effects on atmospheric carbon dioxide. As examples of the environmental effect of wood utilization, the following two results were obtained: 1) If wood construction becomes popular in Korea as in Japan, more than 24% of carbon dioxide emission during construction of residential housings can be reduced: and 2) If aluminum windows are substituted by wood windows, more than 19% of carbon dioxide emission can be reduced. If the principle of "cut and plant" is kept well, wood is the best construction material for environmental protection as well as human residence.

In-situ rf treatment of multiwall carbon nanotube with various post techniques for enhanced field emission

  • Well-aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared at low temperature of 400 $^{\circ}C$ by utilizing a radio frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (rf-PECVD) system. The MWCNTs were treated by an external rf plasma source and an ultra-violet laser in order to modify structural defect of carbon nanotube and to ablate possible contamination on carbon nanotube surface. Structural properties of carbon nanotubes were investigated by using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transformer Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). In addition, the emission properties of the MWNTs were measured for the application of field emission display (FED) in near future. Various post treatments were found to improve the field emission property of carbon nanotubes.
