  • In this study, we developed hybrid control algorithms in smart base stations (SBSs) along with devised communication, caching, and computing techniques. In the proposed scheme, SBSs are equipped with computing power and data storage to collectively offload the computation from mobile user equipment and to cache the data from clouds. To combine in a refined manner the communication, caching, and computing algorithms, game theory is adopted to characterize competitive and cooperative interactions. The main contribution of our proposed scheme is to illuminate the ultimate synergy behind a fully integrated approach, while providing excellent adaptability and flexibility to satisfy the different performance requirements. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can outperform existing schemes by approximately 5% to 15% in terms of bandwidth utilization, access delay, and system throughput.

  • This paper proposes a novel video delivery scheme that reduces the bandwidth consumption cost from a video server to terminals in Long-Term Evolution networks. This proposed scheme combines optimized hybrid multicast with a segment-based caching strategy for use in environments where the maximum number of multicast channels is limited. The optimized hybrid multicast, allocation of multicast channels, and cache allocation are determined on the basis of a video's request rate, the related video's length, and the variable cost per unit size of a segment belonging to the related video. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces a video's delivery costs. This work is applicable to on-demand TV services that feature asynchronous video content requests.

  • In this paper, for improving the speed of query processing on distributed directory system, we proposed a caching mechanism which is store the queries and their on the remote site objects in the cache of local site. For this, first, cached information which is stored in distributed directory systems is classified as application data and system data. And cache system architecture is designed according to classified information. Second least-TTL replacement mechanism which uses the weighted value of geographical information and access frequency for replacements are developed for each cache. Finally, performance evaluations are performed by comparing the proposed caching mechanism and other mechanisms (LRU, LFU replacement). Our least-TTL mechanism shows a performance improvement of 25% over the LRU and that of 30% over LFU.

  • The software RAID file system is defined as the system which distributes data redundantly across an aray of disks attached to each workstations connected on a high-speed network. This provides high throughput as well as higher availability. In this paper, we present an efficient caching scheme for the software RAID filte system. The performance of this schmem is compared to two other schemes previously proposed for convnetional file systems and adapted for the software RAID file system. As in hardware RAID systems, small-writes to be the performance bottleneck in softwre RAID filte systems. To tackle this problem, we logically divide the cache into two levels. By keeping old data and parity val7ues in the second-level cache we were able to eliminate much of the extra disk reads and writes necessary for write-back of dirty blocks. Using track driven simulations we show that the proposed scheme improves performance for both the average response time and the average system busy time.

  • In this paper, wireless internet proxy server clusters are used for the wireless internet because their caching, distillation, and clustering functions are helpful to overcome the limitations and needs of the wireless internet. A wireless Internet proxy server cluster needs a systematic scalability, simple communication structure, cooperative caching, and serving Hot Spot requests. In our former research, we proposed the CD-A structure which can be scalable in a systematic way and has a simple communication structure but it has no cooperative caching. A hash based load balancing can be used to solve the problem, but it can not deal with Hot Spot request problem. In this paper, we proposed a shared storage based wireless internet proxy server cluster which has a systematic scalability, simple communication structure, cooperative caching, and serving Hot Spot requests. The proposed method shares one cache directory and it has advantages: advantages of the existing CD-A structure, cooperative caching, and serving Hot Spot requests. We performed experiments using 16 PCs and experimental results show high performance improvement of the proposed system compared to the existing systems in Hot Spot requests.

  • In distributed file-systems, cooperative caching algorithm which owns the data cached at each node jointly is used to reduce an expense of disk access. Cooperative caching algorithm is the method that increases a cache hit-ratio and decrease a disk access as it holds the cache information of distributed systems in common and makes cache larger virtually. Recently, several cooperative caching algorithms decrease the message costs by using approximate information of the cache and increase the cache hit-ratio by using local and global cache fields dynamically. And they have an advantage that increases the whole field hit-ratio by sending a replaced block to the idel node on cache replacement in order to maintain the replaced block in the cache field. However the wrong approximate information deteriorates the performance, the concistency maintenance goes to great expense to exchange messeges and the cost that manages Age-information of each node to choose the idle node increases. In this thesis, we propose a cooperative cache algorithm that maintains correct cache information, minimizes the maintance cost for consistency and the management cost for cache Age-information. Also, we show the superiority of our algorithm through the performance evaluation.

  • Due to explosive growth of mobile data traffic, many kind of techniques based on small cell is proposed as solution for phenomenon. However, those techniques essentially demands increase of backhaul capacity and causes performance degradation if not satisfied. Based on that, the approach applying the storage capacity in place of backhaul capacity, which is known as femto-caching, is proposed to reduce data downloading delay of users in system. In this paper, we expanded previous research by proposing file placement strategy with distribution of user position, which is more practical scenario. Simulation results verify that our proposed scheme has better performance gains mainly because when coverage of helpers are overlapped, users get more opportunity to connect various helpers which enables users to download a variety kind of files from helpers, not base station.

  • As VOD service over the Internet becomes popular, a large sealable VOD system in P2P streaming environment has become increasing important. In this paper, we propose a new proxy caching scheme, called P2Proxy, to replace the traditional proxy with a sealable P2P proxy in P2P streaming environment. In the proposed scheme, each client in a group stores a different part of the stream from a server into its local buffer and then uses a group of clients as a proxy. Each client receives the request stream from other clients as long as the parts of the stream are available in the client group. The only missing parts of the stream which are not in the client group are directly received from the server. We represent the caching process between clients in a group and a server and then describe a group creation process. This paper proposes the directory structure to share the caching information among clients. By using the directory information, we minimize message exchange overload for a stream caching and playing. We also propose a recovery method for failures about the irregular behavior of P2P clients. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme and compare the performance with the existing P2P streaming systems.

  • For enhancing network efficiency, various applications/services like CDN and P2P try to utilize content which have previously been cached somewhere. Content-centric networking (CCN) also utilizes data caching functionality. However, dislike CDN/P2P, CCN implements such a function on network nodes. Then, any intermediated nodes can directly respond to request messages for cached data. Hence, it is essential which content is cached as well as which nodes cache transmitted content. Basically, CCN propose for every nodes on the path from the content publisher of transmitted object to a requester to cache the object. However, such an approach is inefficient considering the utilization of cached objects as well as the storage overhead of each node. Hence, various caching mechanisms are proposed to enhance the storage efficiency of a node. In this paper, we analyze the performance of such mechanisms and compare the characteristics of such mechanisms. Also, we analyze content utilization patterns and apply such pattern to caching mechanisms to analyze the practicalism of the caching mechanisms.

  • Mobile Edge Computing(MEC) is considered as a promising technology to effectively support the explosively increasing traffic demands. It can provide low-latency services and reduce network traffic by caching contents at the edge of networks such as Base Station(BS). Although users may associate with the nearest BSs, it is more beneficial to associate users to the BS where the requested content is cached to reduce content download latency. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a mobility-aware joint caching and user association algorithm to imporve the cache hit ratio. In particular, the proposed algorithm performs caching and user association based on sojourn time and content preferences. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the performance in terms of cache hit ratio and latency as compared with existing schemes.
