A multithreaded model is a hybrid one which combines locality of execution of the von Neumann model with asynchronous data availability and implicit parallelism of the dataflow model. Much researches that have been made toward the advanced performance of multithreaded models are about the cache memory which have been proved to be efficient in the von Neumann model. To use an instruction cache or operand cache, the multithreaded models must have cache memories. If cache memories are added to the multithreaded model, they may have the disadvantage of high implementation cost in the mode. To solve these problems, we did not add cache memory but applied the method of executing the caching by using available registers of the multithreaded models. The available register-based caching method is one that use the registers which are not used on the execution of threads. It may accomplish the same effect as the cache memory. The multithreaded models can compute the number of available registers to be used during the process of the register optimization, and therefore this method can be easily applied on the models. By applying this method, we can also remove the access conflict and the bottleneck of frame memories. When we applied the proposed available register-based caching method, we found that there was an improved performance of the multithreaded model. Also, when the available-register-based caching method is compared with the cache based caching method, we found that there was the almost same execution overhead.

In this paper, we propose a fuzzy proxy cache scheme for caching web documents in mobile base stations. In this scheme, a mobile cache model is used to facilitate data caching and data replication. Using the proposed cache scheme, the individual proxy in the base station makes cache decisions based solely on its local knowledge of the global cache state so that the entire wireless proxy cache system can be effectively managed without centralized control. To improve the performance of proxy caching, the proposed cache scheme predicts the direction of movement of mobile hosts, and uses various cache methods for neighboring proxy servers according to the fuzzy-logic-based control rules based on the membership degree of the mobile host. The performance of our cache scheme is evaluated analytically in terms of average response delay and average energy cost, and is compared with that of other mobile cache schemes.
Recently, to achieve high performance of the processor, the cache is splits physically into two parts, one for instruction and one for data. This paper proposes an architecture of asynchronous instruction cache based on mixed-delay model that are DI(delay-insensitive) model for cache hit and Bundled delay model for cache miss. We synthesized the instruction cache at gate-level and constructed a test platform with 32-bit embedded processor EISC to evaluate performance. The cache communicates with the main memory and CPU using 4-phase hand-shake protocol. It has a 8-KB, 4-way set associative memory that employs Pseudo-LRU replacement algorithm. As the results, the designed cache shows 99% cache hit ratio and reduced latency to 68% tested on the platform with MI bench mark programs.

Multimedia streaming data is very large in size and accessed sequentially, making the LRU(Least Recently Used) algorithm widely used to improve I/O performance in traditional caching environments ineffective. Experimental analysis of this has shown the superiority of interval-based caching over LRU, but the theoretical basis has not been proven. In this paper, we design a cache performance model to analyze the optimality of caching for multimedia streaming environments and design a theoretically optimal caching algorithm based on interval caching. Then, we show that the algorithm we design is an optimal algorithm that minimizes cache misses of streaming data based on the proposed model.
This research presents an analytical model to predict the instruction fetch rate on superscalar Processors. The proposed model is also able to analyze the performance relationship between cache miss and branch prediction miss. The proposed model takes into account various kind of architectural parameters such as branch instruction probability, cache miss rate, branch prediction miss rate, and etc.. To prove the correctness of the proposed model, we performed extensive simulations and compared the results with those of the analytical models. Simulation results showed that the pro-posed model can estimate the instruction fetch rate accurately within 10% error in most cases. The model is also able to show the effects of the cache miss and branch prediction miss on the performance of instruction fetch rate, which can provide an valuable information in designing a balanced system.

The recent rapid growth of mobile network traffic places multi-access edge computing in an important position to reduce network load and improve network capacity and service quality. Contrasting with traditional mobile cloud computing, multi-access edge computing includes a base station cooperative cache layer and user cooperative cache layer. Selecting the most appropriate cache content according to actual needs and determining the most appropriate location to optimize the cache performance have emerged as serious issues in multi-access edge computing that must be solved urgently. For this reason, a cache placement algorithm based on comprehensive utility in big data multi-access edge computing (CPBCU) is proposed in this work. Firstly, the cache value generated by cache placement is calculated using the cache capacity, data popularity, and node replacement rate. Secondly, the cache placement problem is then modeled according to the cache value, data object acquisition, and replacement cost. The cache placement model is then transformed into a combinatorial optimization problem and the cache objects are placed on the appropriate data nodes using tabu search algorithm. Finally, to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm, a multi-access edge computing experimental environment is built. Experimental results show that CPBCU provides a significant improvement in cache service rate, data response time, and replacement number compared with other cache placement algorithms.

Existing single cache structure has shown difference of hit-ratio according to individually replacement strategy However. It needs new improved cache structure for reducing network traffic and providing advanced hit-ratio. Therefore, this Paper design push agent model using dual cache for increasing hit-ratio by reducing server overload and network traffic by repetition request of persistent and identical information. In this model proposes dual cache structure to do achievement replace gradual cache using by two caches storage space for reducing server overload and network traffic. Also, we show new cache replace techniques and algorithms which executes data update and delete based on replace strategy of Log(Size) +LRU, LFU and PLC for effectiveness of data search in cache. And through an experiment, it evaluates Performance of dual cache push agent model.

Since large objects consume substantial resources, web proxy caching incurs a fundamental trade-off between performance (i.e., hit-ratio and latency) and overhead (i.e., resource usage), in terms of caching and relaying large objects to users. This paper investigates how and to what extent the current dedicated-server based web proxy caching scheme is affected by large file transfers in a high bandwidth campus network environment. We use a series of trace-based performance analyses and profiling of various resource components in our experimental squid proxy cache server. Large file transfers often overwhelm our cache server. This causes a bottleneck in a web network, by saturating the network bandwidth of the cache server. Due to the requests for large objects, response times required for delivery of concurrently requested small objects increase, by a factor as high as a few million, in the worst cases. We argue that this cache bandwidth bottleneck problem is due to the fundamental limitations of the current centralized web proxy caching model that scales poorly when there are a limited amount of dedicated resources. This is a serious threat to the viability of the current web proxy caching model, particularly in a high bandwidth access network, since it leads to sporadic disconnections of the downstream access network from the global web network. We propose a peer-to-peer cooperative web caching scheme to address the cache bandwidth bottleneck problem. We show that it performs the task of caching and delivery of large objects in an efficient and cost-effective manner, without generating significant overheads for participating peers.
Cache memories are small fast memories used to temporarily hold the contents of main memory that are likely to be referenced by processors so as to reduce instruction and data access time. In this paper, we represent analytical models of instruction fetch process for four types of instruction cache structures that can be used for superscalar processors. In the models, we define various kinds of architectural parameters and take cache miss and branch misprediction into consideration. To prove the correctness of the proposed models, we performed extensive simulations and compared the results with the analytical models. Simulation results showed that the proposed model can estimate the instruction fetch rate accurately within 10% error in most cases. Both analytical model and simulation show that the increase of cache misses reduces the instruction fetch rate more severely than that of branch misprediction does. However, the analytical model can explain the causes of performance degradation which cannot be uncovered by the simulation method only. The model is also able to provide exact relationship between cache miss and branch misprediction for instruction fetch analysis.

Interval caching is one of the representative caching strategies used in multimedia streaming systems. However, there has been no theoretical analysis on interval caching. In this paper, we present an optimality proof of the interval caching policy. Specifically, we propose a caching performance model for multimedia streaming systems and show the optimality of the interval caching policy based on this model.
