Differences in Latent Profile Analyses of Middle School Students' Loner Tendencies and Academic Burnout According to Gender, Ego-resilience, and School Adaptation (중학생의 외톨이 성향과 학업소진의 잠재 프로파일 분류: 성별, 자아탄력성, 학교적응 차이 분석)

  • This study was conducted to identify profiles of loners and those likely to suffer academic burnout among middle school students and to determine whether these profiles differed by gender, ego-resilience, ego-weakness, and school adaptation. The participants in this study were 270 middle school students in Kyung-nam. The results showed that there were four main profiles of students related to their likelihood of being loners and suffering academic burnout: the adaptive group, which had a low tendency towards both loneliness and academic burnout; the burnout group, which had a high tendency towards academic burnout but a low tendency towards loneliness; the lonely group, which had a high tendency towards loneliness but a low tendency towards academic burnout; and the loner-burnout group, which had high tendencies towards both loneliness and academic burnout. Cross-tabulation and one-way ANOVA analyses of the four groups showed that the loneliness-burnout group had a statistically lower level of ego-resilience, higher level of ego-weakness, and lower level of school adaptation than the other groups. This paper discusses the implications for counseling middle school students and presents suggestions for future research.

Effects of Compassion Satisfaction and Social Support in the Relationship between Compassion Fatigue and Burnout in Hospital Nurses (간호사의 공감피로와 소진과의 관계에서 공감만족과 사회적 지지의 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of compassion satisfaction and social support in the relationship between compassion fatigue and burnout among hospital nurses. Methods: The participants were 430 nurses working in general hospitals. Data were collected with self-administrated questionnaires and analyzed by hierarchical multiple regression. Results: (a) Compassion fatigue had a significant positive effect on burnout; (b) social support and compassion satisfaction had negative effects on burnout, and (c) social support and compassion satisfaction did not moderate the effects of compassion fatigue on burnout. Conclusion: These findings provide strong empirical evidence for the importance of compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction and social support in explaining burnout of nurses. Also, it would be of great value to further define compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction even though these concepts are not accepted in the realities of health care.

Child Care Teacher's Job Satisfaction and Burnout (보육교사의 직무만족도와 소진)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate child rare teachers' job satisfaction in relation to their burnout and differences in their job satisfaction by demographic variables. Subjects of this study were 285 child care teachers in Chungnam province. They responded to 'Teachers' Work Satisfaction Scale' and 'Teachers' Burnout Scale.' The collected data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, Pearson's partial correlation, stepwise multiple regression, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test for post hoc test, and Cronbach's a for reliability with SPSS PC program(10.0 version). The results are as follows: First, total job satisfaction was high in teachers with high school diploma and those married. Also, burnout level was high in teachers with high school diploma, those with more than 5 year, those married, and those over 40 years old. Second, the partial correlation coefficient of teachers' job satisfaction in relation to their burnout was -.52. Finally, teachers' burnout and demographic variables explained approximately 31% for total score of job satisfaction and $13{\sim}33%$ for subscales of it.

Burnout and Burden of Family Care-Givers for Caring of Terminal Patients with Cancer (말기암환자 가족원의 부담감과 소진)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between burden and burnout of the family care-givers for caring of terminal patients with cancer. A total of 99 convenience sample was recruited form hospitals. The data were collected by a direct interview with Questionnaire about family burden and burnout. The mean score of burnout of main care-givers was 2.98, and the mean score of burden was 3.03. The care-givers' burnout was significantly different by age, sex, job, duration of treatment, level of acceptance on the stage of death, and ability of daily living activities. The family care-givers' burden was significantly different by the jobs, complication of patients, level of acceptance on the stage of death, and ability of daily living activities. In conclusions, the burnout of family care-givers was highly and positively correlated with the burden.

Influence of Irrational Beliefs on Teacher Burnout (비합리적 신념이 교사 소진에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of irrational beliefs on teacher burnout. Four-hundred twenty-two school teachers participated in this study. Maslach Burnout Inventory and Irrational Belief Test were used to collect data. Collected data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression. Irrational beliefs significantly predicted teacher burnout. High self-expectation, helplessness, problem avoidance, anxious over-concern and frustration reactivity were significant predictors of teacher burnout. Influence of irrational beliefs on teacher burnout differed according to stages of teacher development and school grade of teacher. The implications of this study on education and counseling for teacher were discussed. Finally future research questions were recommended with the limitations of this study.

Relationship between job stress, burnout, and job satisfaction of beauty workers (뷰티 종사자의 직무스트레스와 소진 및 직무만족의 관계)

  • This study examined the relationship between job stress, burnout, and job satisfaction perceived by 185 beauty workers. Analysis and structural model analyses were conducted to derive the main results. The results are summarized and presented as follows. First, the job stress perceived by beauty workers has a statistically significant positive effect on burnout. Second, job stress perceived by beauty workers has a statistically significant negative effect on job satisfaction. Third, burnout felt by beauty workers has a statistically significant negative effect on job satisfaction. Through the above results, job stress and burnout should be lowered in order to increase the job satisfaction of beauty workers, and in particular, job stress must effectively be lowered in consideration of the fact that job stress is a determinant that increases burnout and reduces job satisfaction. A method must be discovered to achieve this end.

Influence of Occupational Stress and Burnout on Turnover Intention of Caregivers in Geriatric Hospitals (노인병원 간병인의 직무 스트레스와 소진이 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was identify the influences of occupational stress and burnout on turnover intention of caregivers in geriatric hospitals. Methods: The data were collected from 176 caregivers working at three geriatric hospitals located in Gyeonggi province. A self-reported questionnaires was used to assess the level of occupational stress, burnout and turnover intention. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression by SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The turnover intention was positively correlated with occupational stress(r=.438, p<.01) and burnout(r=.418, p<.01). The influencing factors of turnover intention were occupational stress(${\beta}$=.290, p<.001), burnout(${\beta}$=.253, p=.001) and education level(${\beta}$=.182, p=.006). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to develop stress management program so that caregivers in geriatric hospitals can reduce occupational stress and burnout.

Relationship among Job Burnout, Organizational Commitment and Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Social Workers using Structural Equation Modeling

  • Burnout is a severe psychological and physical syndrome that occurs in response to prolonged stress at work. It brings enormous costs to both organizations and individuals because it negatively impacts employees' job attitudes and leads to undesirable behaviors. The purpose of this study was to examine the negative effects of job burnout on the organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior of social worker. Organizational citizenship behaviors are efforts by employees above and beyond what is expected. For the research, burnout was consisted of emotional exhaustion(EE), depersonalization(PA) and diminished personal accomplishment(DP) by Maslach and Jackson's MBI. This study analyzed 342 social workers in private social welfare organizations by survey. The results of this study were summarized as follows: Social Workers had negative correlation to burnout on the organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. Especially, EE, PA and DP had a negative effect on the organizational commitment; PA and DP had a negative effect on the organizational citizenship behavior. This study finally discussed theoretical implications for future study and practical implications for burnout strategies on the results.

Factors Affecting Burnout of Caregivers in Geriatric Hospitals (노인요양병원 간병인의 소진에 대한 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting burnout of caregivers in geriatric hospitals. Methods: Data were collected from 266 formal caregivers working at Korean geriatric hospitals using self-report questionnaires between May 16 and June 30, 2016. The measured variables were burnout, emotional labor, job stress, job satisfaction, and self-efficacy experienced by caregivers. T-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were employed for data analysis. Results: The results indicated that emotional labor and job stress significantly influenced burnout of caregivers in geriatric hospitals; the explanatory power of the model was 27.3%. Conclusion: Based on the study results, we suggest further investigation of factors influencing burnout, and the development of strategies to prevent burnout by reducing emotional labor and job stress experienced by caregivers.

Effects of the Counseling and the Working Environment on Burnout in Child Counselor (아동상담자의 의욕상실에 영향을 미치는 상담 및 업무환경 변인)

  • Using an instrument validated in an antecedent study, this study explored the effect of counseling and working environment variables on burnout in child counselors. The 191 counselors of this study worked with children under 18 years of age. Data were analyzed by Cronbach's a, quantification methods I. Counseling and working environment variables have 33% of ad-$R^2$ over the total score of burnout in child counselors. Variables contributing to burnout were workload, position in an institution, income from counseling, theoretical approach, and job stress. Counselors with 1-5 cases per week, working independent of an institution and using a single theory of counseling experienced more burnout, and counselors without challenge on the job, excessive role conflict, role ambiguousness, and excessive workload experienced more burnout.
