This case study aims at investigating the factors which make venture firms successful. It analysedthree high-performance venture firms originated from the government-financed rese arch institute, the company and the university on the viewpoint of 'dynamic capability' theory. In this case study, technology integration capability and administrative innovation capability were identified as success factors of the three venture firms. The study also presented the role of the incubating organizations. Although incubating organizations supported technological and managerial resource-building of the entrepreneurs, there was not active interactive-learning between venture firms and incubating organizations after spin-off.

In design stage of high precision manufacture/inspect ion FAB building, it is necessary to investigate the vibration allowable limits of high precision equipment and to study a structure dynamic characteristics of C/R and Sub-structure in order to provide a structure vibration environment to satisfy thess allowable limits. The aim of this study is to investigate the dynamic characteristics of PC-Type mock-up structures designed for next TFT LCD FAB through vibration measurement and analysis procedure, therefore, to provide a proper dynamic structure design for high precision manufacture/inspection work process, which satisfy thess allowable limits.
This paper presents the dynamic characteristics analysis of the purlin-sheet roofs by the random vibration theories. Results show that the natural vibration frequency of the purlin-sheet roof is low, while the frequencies and mode distributions are very intensive. The random vibration theory should be used for the dynamic characteristics of the roof structures due to complex vibration response. Among the first 20th vibration modes, the first vibration mode is mainly the deformations of purlins, while the rest modes are the overall deformations of the roof. In the following 30th modes, it mainly performs unilateral local deformations of the roof. The frequency distribution of the first 20th modes varies significantly while those of the following 30th modes are relatively sensitive. For different parts, the contributions of vibration modes on the vibration response are different. For the part far from the roof ridge, only considering the first 5th modes can reflect the wind-induced vibration response. For the part near the ridge, at least the first 12 modes should be considered, due to complex vibration response. The wind vibration coefficients of the upwind side are slightly higher than that of the leeward side. Finally, the corresponding wind vibration coefficient for the purlin-sheet roof is proposed.

Most engineers, related to soil and civil dynamic field, have been interested in the dynamic response of building transmitted from soil and rock to structure due to blasting. However it is not easy to estimate the dynamic response of structures and utilities due to blasting by using analytical method because of difficulties of soil modeling, prediction of excitation force and so on. In this paper, dynamic response analysis have been performed to predict vibration levels of structure due to blasting and the semi-empirical method. which is based on vibration measurement data. has been employed to consider blast vibration characteristics.
Physical and chemical factors can cause traditional timber constructions to lose structural integrity. Knowing the dynamic properties of the building components is vital to avoid damage to the buildings from dynamic effects, a subset of physical effects. In this work, spruce and scotch pine wooden beams that had been strengthened in three distinct ways with carbon fiber strengthened polymer (CFRP) were investigated for changes in their dynamic properties. For this, CFRP was used to strengthening unstrengthened wooden beams in the form of bottom confinement, U-shaped confinement, and full confinement after the dynamic parameters of the beams were determined. By using experimental modal analysis with both free-free and fixed-fixed boundary conditions, the beams'initial natural frequencies were identified.

Buildings become complex and diverse with time. It is difficult to extract individual buildings using only an optical image, because they have similar spectral characteristics to objects such as vegetation and roads. In this study, we propose a method to extract building area and boundary through integrating airborne Light Detection and Ranging(LiDAR) data and aerial images. Firstly, a binary edge map was generated using Edison edge detector after applying Adaptive dynamic range linear stretching radiometric enhancement algorithm to the aerial image. Secondly, building objects on airborne LiDAR data were extracted from normalized Digital Surface Model and aerial image. Then, a temporary building areas were extracted by overlaying the binary edge map and building objects extracted from LiDAR data. Finally, some building boundaries were additionally refined considering positional accuracy between LiDAR data and aerial image. The proposed method was applied to two experimental sites for validation. Through error matrix, F-measure, Jaccard coefficient, Yule coefficient, and Overall accuracy were calculated, and the values had a higher accuracy than 0.85.

Seismic control performance of MR dampers, which have severe nonlinearity, differs with respect to the dynamic characteristics of an earthquake such as magnitude, frequency and duration. In this study, the effects of excitation characteristics on the equivalent linear system of a building structure with an MR damper are investigated through numerical analysis for artificial ground motions generated from different response spectrums. The equivalent damping ratio of the structure with an MR damper is calculated using Newmark and Hall's equations for ground motion amplification factors. It is found that the equivalent damping ratio of the structure with the MR damper is dependent on the ratio of the maximum friction force of the MR damper over excitation magnitude. Frequency contents of the earthquake ground motion affects the equivalent damping ratio of long-period structures considerably. Also, additional damping effect caused by interaction between the viscousity and friction of the MR damper is observed.
Numerical simulation of the non-linear behavior of (RC) structural walls subjected to severe earthquake ground motions requires a reliable modeling approach that includes important material characteristics and behavioral response features. The objective of this paper is to optimize a simplified method for the assessment of the seismic response and damage development analyses of an RC structural wall building using macro-element model. The first stage of this study investigates effectiveness and ability of the macro-element model in predicting the flexural nonlinear response of the specimen based on previous experimental test results conducted in UCLA. The sensitivity of the predicted wall responses to changes in model parameters is also assessed. The macro-element model is next used to examine the dynamic behavior of the structural wall building-all the way from elastic behavior to global instability, by applying an approximate Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA), based on Uncoupled Modal Response History Analysis (UMRHA), setting up nonlinear single degree of freedom systems. Finally, the identification of the global stiffness decrease as a function of a damage variable is carried out by means of this simplified methodology. Responses are compared at various locations on the structural wall by conducting static and dynamic pushover analyses for accurate estimation of seismic performance of the structure using macro-element model. Results obtained with the numerical model for rectangular wall cross sections compare favorably with experimental responses for flexural capacity, stiffness, and deformability. Overall, the model is qualified for safety assessment and design of earthquake resistant structures with structural walls.

Pile driving technique has been regarded as the most reliable way of constructing deep foundations. Engineers have long believed that the quality of the installed piles is a simple function of the set values which can easily be obtained from the field pile driving records. Consequently most of the local building codes are based on the dynamic formula. However it has been proven that the quality of the driven pile is influenced not only by the set values but also by various factors, such as hammer performance, helmet characteristics, time dependent geotechnical characteristics of the site, etc., from the results of various researches made during the last two decades. In this paper an appropriate quality control scheme has been proposed by taking various influencing factors into consideration.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the church architecture by Alvar Aalto. General features of Aalto's architecture are the result of accommodating Modern architecture with regional qualities of Finland. The church would be the best example for understanding his architecture because he designed most of his churches in the prime of life. He established architectural types in his 30s through Viipuri public library and Saynatsalo town hall. He developed these types and applied them to his whole design. His type acts as a principle of configuration of his church architecture rather than a copy of form and shows the characteristics in the field of building layout, dynamic space and the effective use of light. Therefore, Aalto's church architecture can be recognized as the representative of Modern Finnish architecture in that they developed the meaning of their specific context including site, region and cultural tradition without losing the concept and technology of Modern architecture.
