  • The single layer latticed domes have attracted many designers and researchers's attention all of the world, because these structures as spatial structure are of great advantage in not only mechanical rationality but also function, fabrication, construction and economic aspect. But single layer latticed domes are apt to occur the unstable phenomena that are called "buckling" because of the lack of strength of members, instability of structural shape, etc. In the case of latticed dome, there are several types of buckling mode such as overall buckling, local buckling, and member buckling according to the shape of dome, section type of member, the size of member, junction's condition of member and so on. There are many methods to increase the buckling strength of the single layer latticed dome, that is, with the change of geometrical shape of dome, the reinforcement of buckled member, etc. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to verify the reinforcement effect of buckled member when designers reinforce the buckled member to increase the buckling strength of single layer latticed dome with 3-way grid.

  • There are two basic concepts about concerning the buckling analysis of a buried pipe. One concept considers the soil around the pipe asn elastic continuum mediaum. The other concept holds that the pipe is sup ported by an elastic spring, which replaces the effects of the surrounding soil (the Winkler model). Theise buckling analysis is based on plane analysis, without considering the corrugation effect and the length effect. This paper thus presents a parametric study using the Finite Element Method (FEM) for the Winker model and proposes a buckling strength formula after examining a 3D analysis considering the corrugation effect and the length effect, thatwhichhelp in estimating the critical buckling strength of such CSP

  • Sandwich structure is widely used in various fields of industry due to its excellent strength and stiffness compared with weight. We studied the buckling and bending behavior with respect to the variation of design parameters such as length, height, and thickness of honeycomb sandwich core. We found that as the density and the thickness of core become higher, the value of critical bucking load increased significantly. We found that the effect of bending stress due to critical buckling load resulted in high bending stress and the value of bending stress decreased in half according to the increase of length of core. The effect by bending stress is dominant above the portion of the intersection line between bending stress and the effect of buckling is dominant below the potion of it. We could get proper thickness ratio and density of core according to applied load conditions.

  • In this research work, a simple and accurate hyperbolic plate theory for the buckling analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates is presented. The main interest of this theory is that, in addition to incorporating the thickness stretching effect (${\varepsilon}_z{\not=}0$), the displacement field is composed only of 5 unknowns as the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), instead of 6 like in the well-known "higher order shear and normal deformation theories". Thus, the number of unknowns and governing equations for the present theory is reduced, significantly facilitating engineering analysis. Governing equations are obtained by employing the principle of minimum total potential energy. Comparison studies are performed to verify the validity of present results. A numerical investigation has been conducted considering and neglecting the thickness stretching effects on the buckling of sandwich plates with functionally graded skins. It can be concluded that the present theory is not only accurate but also simple in predicting the buckling response of sandwich plates with functionally graded skins.

  • In this manuscript, buckling response of the functionally graded material (FGM) nanoplate is investigated. Two opposite edges of nanoplate is under linear and nonlinear varying normal stresses. The small-scale effect is considered by Eringen's nonlocal theory. Governing equation are derived by nonlocal theory and Hamilton's principle. Navier's method is used to solve governing equation in simply boundary conditions. The obtained results exactly match the available results in the literature. The results of this research show the important role of nonlocal effect in buckling and stability behavior of nanoplates. In order to study the FG-index effect and different loading condition effects on buckling of rectangular nanoplate, Navier's method is applied and results are presented in various figures and tables.

  • A steel silo traditionally consists of a cylindrical and a conical shell. In order to facilitate emptying operations, the cylinder is placed on local supports. This may lead to dangerous stress concentrations and eventually to local instability of the cylindrical wall. In this contribution, the locally supported cylinder is strengthened by means of ring stiffeners and longitudinal stiffeners and the effect of their dimensions on the buckling stress is investigated. This study leads to a number of diagrams, each of them representing the effect of one of the dimensions on the buckling stress. In each diagram, the failure pattern corresponding to the buckling stress is indicated.

  • This paper describes the collapse characteristics of the rectangular tube under eccentric compressive load. Overall buckling stress and bifurcation criterion (slenderness ration)are investigated. modified secant formula(MSF) is proposed to decide overall buckling stress. The bifurcation criterion which can distinguish between the local and overall buckling mode shapes is suggest by equating the local and overall buckling stresses. Additionally the effect of initial imperfection on bifurcation criterion is investigated.

  • This study deals with buckling analysis with stretching effect of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite beams resting on an elastic foundation. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are aligned and distributed in polymeric matrix with different patterns of reinforcement. The material properties of the CNTRC beams are estimated by using the rule of mixture. The significant feature of this model is that, in addition to including the shear deformation effect and stretching effect it deals with only 4 unknowns without including a shear correction factor. The equilibrium equations have been obtained using the principle of virtual displacements. The mathematical models provided in this paper are numerically validated by comparison with some available results. New results of buckling analyses of CNTRC beams based on the present theory with stretching effect is presented and discussed in details. the effects of different parameters of the beam on the buckling responses of CNTRC beam are discussed.

  • In this study, theoretical models and design procedures of the behavior of thin-walled simply supported steel beams with an open cross section under a large torsional effect are presented. I-sections were chosen as the cross section types. Firstly, the widely used differential equations for the lateral buckling for the pure bending moment effect in a beam element were adopted for the various moment distributions along the span of the beam. This solution was obtained for both mono-symmetric and bisymmetric sections. The buckling loads were then obtained by using the energy method. When using the energy method to solve the problem, it is possible to locate the load not only on the shear center but also at several points of the section depth. Buckling loads were obtained for six different load types. Results obtained for different load and cross section types were checked with ABAQUS software and compared with several standard rules.

  • This paper uses a new type of deformation theory to establish the free vibration and static buckling equations of nanoplates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations, in which the flexoelectric effect is taken into account. The proposed approach used in this work is not only simpler than other higher-order shear deformation theories but also does not need any shear correction coefficients to describe exactly the mechanical responses of structures. The reliability of the theory is verified by comparing the numerical results of this work with those of analytical solutions. The results show that the flexoelectric effect significantly changes the natural frequency and the critical buckling load of the nanoplate compared with the case of neglecting this effect, especially when the plate thickness changes and with some different boundary conditions. These are new results that have not been mentioned in any publications but are meaningful in engineering practice.
