Mechanical stimulation induce the morphological changes in plants. In this study, we investigated the growth changes of tomato seedlings applicated to mechanical stimulation. The brushing treatment was used for mechanical stimulation. The brushing treatment interval was 2 hr using transfer device attached acrylic film from 10 days after sowing. Growth parameter of tomato seedlings were measured 3-day intervals to investigate the growth changes during brushing treatment. The plant height and leaf area were decreased in brushing treatment than the control, and the fresh and dry weights of shoot didn't have significant difference in the control and brushing treatment. The total root length and root surface area were increased in brushing treatment compared than the control, and root volume has no significant difference in the control and brushing treatment. In conclusion, these results suggest that the application of brushing treatment on tomato seedling make shorten plant height and well-development root morphological characteristics.
An experiment was conducted to find out the effect of brushing treatment during cultivation on the postharvest quality of the baby leaf vegetable, specifically tah tasai Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris var. narinosa). The effect of mechanical brushing during cultivation on the postharvest quality was determined in terms of the quality changes in weight loss, gas partial pressure, leaf color, and appearance during storage using a 30-${\mu}m$-thick polypropylene film at $16^{\circ}C$. The brushing treatment included brushing with A4 paper back and forth 50 times a day. The study revealed that the growths on the brushing-treated plant group were less than those on the control group. The structure of the leaf tissue of the brushing-treated plant also tended to be less compact than that of the non-treated plant. The brushing treatment resulted in less growth and denser plant tissues as well as in differences in the gas $O_2$ consumption and $CO_2$ accumulation after packaging. For the gas partial pressure, the $O_2$ consumption and $CO_2$ accumulation of the brushing-treated plant tended to be less than those of the non-treated plant. There were no differences, however, between the brushing-treated plant and control groups in the SPAD value and appearance. The study results also suggested that after packaging, the effects of the brushing treatment during cultivation on the quality of the tah tasai Chinese cabbage baby leaf vegetable was not significant. As such, it is recommended that effective post-harvest methods of improving the product quality of the baby leaf vegetable be further investigated.
This study was conducted to find proper material of brushing stimulation for height suppression of tomato plug seedlings. The tomato seeds were sown in 40-cell plug tray filled with commercial seedling medium and brushing stimulation was started at 18 days after sowing. Acrylic, polypropylene film, and weaving film were used by materials of brushing stimulation and, non-treatment and diniconazole treatment were used as the control. In acrylic treatment, the plant height was the shortest and the stem diameter was the thickest. Leaf growth was the lowest in diniconazole treatment. However, the SPAD value was the greatest in diniconazole treatment. The dwarf rate was the greatest in acrylic treatment. In acrylic treatment, the T/R ratio was the lowest and compactness was the greatest. In conclusion, use of the acrylic as material for brushing stimulation has higher dwarf rate than diniconazole treatment, and has advantages height suppression and seedling quality.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of brushing on overgrowth inhibition, growth, yield and starch content in spring-grown potato in the netted house. The plant growth of aerial parts was inhibited with growth stage and brushing duration. Especially, The number of lateral branches decreased greatly with brushing duration. The stem length and stem diameter were not different significantly between brushing and non-brushing on May 6. But the stem length was long in later growth stage but short in longer brushing duration. Chlorophyll content by SPAD increased with growth stage regardless of non-brushing duration and ranged from 30 to 36 mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The fresh and dry weight of aerial part and tuber were heavy in longer brushing duration. Starch content was higher in brushing treatment as compared to non-brushing and increased with brushing duration.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of height suppression of cucumber and tomato plug seedlings as affected by mechanical stimulus using brushing as environment-friendly method. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. 'Joeunbaekdadagi') and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. 'Mini Chal') seeds were sown in 40-cell plug trays ($54{\times}27.5{\times}5cm$) filled with growing medium on Oct. 9, 2017. The cultivation environment in a venlo-type glasshouse was maintained as cultivation temperature range of $15-25^{\circ}C$ and the relative humidity of $50{\pm}10%$. Nontreatment and diniconazole ($7.5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) application at 15 days after sowing were used as the control. In addition, brushing treatments in cucumber and tomato were applied interval of 2, 4 or 6 hrs for 15 and 20 days, respectively. Plant height, hypocotyl length, and internode length were inhibited for cucumber and tomato in the diniconazole treatment than in the control. The leaf size was reduced, both cucumber and tomato, while the SPAD increased under the diniconazole treatment. However, stem diameter of cucumber was the thickest in the 2 hrs brushing interval treatment. Fresh weights of shoot and root were the significantly lowest in the diniconazole treatment. Application of brushing improved seedlings quality by promoting dry weights of shoot and root, and compactness of tomato seedlings. The chlorophyll fluorescence of tomato seedlings drastically decreased with 2 hrs treatment, indicating that mechanical stress by brushing treatment. The relative growth rate of tomato seedlings was significantly lower in the diniconazole treatment, but cucumber seedlings were not significantly different in all treatments. As a results, height suppression of cucumber and tomato seedlings was best achievement in the diniconazole treatment by the chemical as growth regulator. In an environment-friendly point of view, however, it is considered that 2 hrs brushing interval treatment can be the applicability for replacing the chemical methods in plug seedling growth of cucumber and tomato.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of mechanical stimulation and growth regulators known to control overgrowth in hot temperature tomato transplants on the seedling quality and the growth and yield after planting. Brushing and impedance were applied as mechanical stimulation, and diniconazole and hexaconazole as chemical growth regulator were used in various ways at different concentrations and treatment times. Diniconazole treatment regardless of concentration and treatment times reduced plant height, leaf area and fresh weight of young plant. Though treatments of high concentration and many times reduced the yield of tomato after planting, these of proper amount and proper times maintained the level of control. Hexaconazole treatment controlled less plant height of transplants than diniconazole, and its effect also didn't support continuously after planting. However, hexaconazole treatment reduced the yield due to little fruit number and malformed plants, and also delayed the harvesting time as compared to the control. Both brushing and impedance controlled plant height of transplants. However, impedance treatment reduced the yield due to malformed plants after planting, and also delayed the harvesting time, while brushing treatment didn't reduced growth and yield as compared to the control. From the above results, it was thought that proper application of brushing and diniconazole can control excessive overgrowth without reducing yield.

The aim of this study was to determine the factors contributing to the barrier of dental treatment for special needs patients perceived by the main caregivers of the patients. A questionnaire was developed with three parts: patient-related factors, caregiver-related factors, and factors for treatment barriers. Patient- and caregiver-related factors were analyzed for correlations with the barrier factors. Fisher's exact test and Chi-square test were used at the level of 0.05. A total of 52 caregivers (mean age [SD]=50.2 [11.5] years) for the patients with intellectual and cognitive disabilities (mean age [SD]=38.9 [21.3]) responded to the questionnaires. Oral hygiene status, need for assistance in tooth brushing, and cooperation for tooth brushing were correlated with the level of treatment cooperation of the patients (p<0.05). The above three factors were also correlated with the treatment barrier despite patients presenting oral symptoms (p<0.05). Two thirds of the caregivers felt the treatment cost as severe or a considerable financial burden. For patients, insurance types and need for assistance in tooth brushing, and for caregivers, education levels and financial status were significant factors contributing to financial burden (p<0.05). There were background factors of the patients and their caregivers associated with access to dental treatment for special needs patients. Deficient cooperative skills and financial burdens were the main obstacles to treatment access. Tooth brushing skills and oral hygiene status can be proxy measures to cooperative ability for dental treatment.
In order to investigate correlation between mother's dental ca re for her children and their dental caries, this study was conducted wi th the dental examination record of 365 children who showed the same number of questionnaires with those examined for dental conditions and questionnaires written by mothers among children between three and six years of age and their mothers in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi province in June 2004 to estimate frequency and percentage of general properties of subjects and mother's oral health care behaviors for her children by research items, to carry out cross-tabulation analysis and correlation analysis following Chi-square distribution for the presence of dental caries in deciduous teeth and oral health care behaviors, and to use decision tree analysis among data mining techniques for those factors associated with the presence of dental caries in deciduous teeth, and drew the following conclusions. 1. For mother's oral health care behaviors and attitudes for her children, 225 mothers(61.6%) confirmed their children's teeth-brushing; 278(76.2%) used no fluorine; and 286(78.6%) observed their children's teeth, 322 mothers(88.2%) instructed their children in teeth-brushing while 268 (73.4%) provided dental care, 232 mothers(63.7%) treated their children's cavity; 290(79.4%) believed that their children had good dental conditions; and 294(80.5%) answered that they began to provide their children with dental care in deciduous teeth. 2. As for the presence of dental caries in deciduous teeth and dental health care behaviors, there were statistically significant differences in employment, confirmation after teeth-brushing, teeth observation, instruction in time for teeth-brushing, use of fluorine, cavity treatment, time for dental care, and perception of dental conditions(p<0.05). 3. As for correlation between dental caries in deciduous teeth and oral health care behaviors, mothers who worked, who believed that their children didn't have good dental condition, and who thought that it was necessary to begin to provide dental care in permanent teeth were found to get their children to suffer from dental caries in deciduous teeth. Besides, those who failed to confirm teeth-brushing, who used no fluorine, and who failed to observe teeth and gave no instruction in time for teeth-brushing were shown to get their children to suffer from dental caries in deciduous teeth. 4. Variables to determine the presence of dental caries in deciduous teeth were classified by cavity treatment, mother's employment, time for dental care, and observation of children's teeth. The first node to determine the presence of dental caries in deciduous teeth was found to be cavity treatment; the next criteria for classification after cavity treatment were shown to be mother's employment and time for dental care. In case of children with no cavity, they were found to be mother's employment and teeth observation.

This study was accomplished to investigate the mechanical properties and handle according to treatment processes and brushing condition. For this study, grey fabrics of blended ratio of polyester 65% : cotton 35% were bleached and dyed. These fabrics were then brushed 1, 3, 5 and 7 times. The mechanical properties were measured with a KES-F system and the mechanical data were then transformed into hand values by the conversion equation, that is, KN-201-MDY. The results obtained by the analysis are as follows; 1) The variation of mechanical properties was remarkable in the initial brushing of 1∼ 3 cycles for all of grey, bleached and dyed fabrics. The values of RT, 2HB, B, G, 2HGS, MMD and SMD were decreased and MIU, WC and T were increased with the increase of number of brushing . 2) LT, B, 2HB, G, 2HG, 2HGS, MMD, SMH and W of dyed fabrics which is coincident with the end use showed lower values than those of grey or bleached fabrics, but MIU, WC and T were higher 3) From the variation of hand value, stiffness of dyed fabric showed lower value than that of grey or bleached fabric. On the other hand, smoothness, soft feeling and total hand values of dyed fabric were higher. Especially, dyed fabric showed the highest total value at the 3 cycles of brushing condition.
This study conducted a 'specialist tooth brushing' method against the severely disabled once every other week. The purpose of this study is to analyze and validate the effectiveness of maintaining healthy periodontal management when consistent oral hygiene lasts with minimum stimuli for 24 - months. The conclusions were as follows. Table 2 compares the difference between group 1 and 2 from the 1st to 11th management and verifies the actual difference in measurement of each index. Group 1 used a professional tooth brush while Group 2 used a general brush. There were found many significant differences in dental index. As for PHP, Oral Malodor index and gingival bleeding, it was found that one or two times of dental care can make substantial differences in dental health condition. These results show that as the number of toothbrush method has been increased, gingival bleeding and periodontal index are significantly improved, not to mention the improvement of gingivitis and periodontal disease. This is because periodontal tissue is affected by brushing method, brushing time and consistency of dental care. During the 6-month period, 20 minutes of active periodontal care was intensively conducted, and for 18-months the effect of consistent care was verified by 10-minute periodontal care once every other week. As a result of the test, it was found that there was no complete regression in the basic periodontal treatment and the periodontal health condition had been maintained for 24 months. Also this test shows that, despite of inconsistent dental hygienic care, regular plague control can prevent dental diseases and maintain the dental health. This study proved that periodontal condition can be maintained by periodontal care once every other week as the tooth brushing properly stimulates the gums with positive effect. Therefore, professional dental healthcareworkers should be designated for each facility for the disabled, and dental health of the disabled should be professionally cared on a regular basis, and consistent and repetitive management by the dental care specialist are required.
