Verified 20-car Model of High-speed Train for Dynamic Response Analysis of Railway Bridges (검증된 고속철도 차량의 20량편성 정밀모형에 의한 철도교량의 동적응답 분석)

  • The dynamic analysis model is developed with the high-speed train (KTX) and a 2-span continuous prestressed concrete box girder bridge with a double track. The analytical results are compared with the dynamic field test results and found to be valid to yield quite accurate dynamic responses. The various trainset models with different number of cars are developed and compared with the results of the regular 20-car trainset model. It is concluded that the reduced trainset models, such as 7-car and 10-car models, cannot exactly produce the dynamic responses of bridges, especially when the train speed is high. Under the coincidence condition of two trains traveling with resonance velocity in the opposite directions, it is found that the impact factor under two-way coincidence is three times larger than that under one-way traffic. Consequently, for the bridge with a double-track it is necessary to check not only the dynamic responses of the bridge with one-way traffic but those with two-way coincidence.

  • Due to many advantages such as lightweight, high durability and speedy construction, increasing number of bridges of various girder types are being built recently with glass-fiber reinforced composite deck. A profile of the composite deck, called 'Delta deck', is developed which has 3 trapezoidal cells of 200mm depth. This paper introduces how to develop 'Delta deck' and its application to the world largest composite-deck bridge, which is 300m long and 35m wide and is currently under construction.

  • This paper presents how to design and construct the Il-sun bridge, the first PSC box girder bridge with Corrugated Steel Web(CSW) in Korea, including 3D analysis results according to construction steps. Also, the 3D analysis for the beams with CSW was performed for the purpose of verifying the role of the flange plate. As the results of this analysis, it is founded that the flange plate plays a role to resist the flexural strength in the nonlinear region. In the near future, we are plan to carry out the load test for these beams with CSW.

  • This paper deals with numerical analysis of static and dynamic wind effects on civil engineering structures. Aeroelastic analysis becomes a prime criterion to be confirmed during the structural design because the long-span suspension bridges are prone to the aerodynamic instabilities caused by wind. If the wind velocity exceeds the critical velocity that the bridge can withstand, then the bridge fails due to the phenomenon of flutter. The aeroelastic simulation is carried out using both Computational Fluid Dynamic(CFD) and Computational Structural Dynamic(SCD) schemes.

Evaluation of Seismic Force Effects on Skew Bridges (사교에 작용하는 지진하중의 영향 평가)

  • This study is focused on evaluation of the structural behavior of skewed bridge during earthquake. The variation of natural frequencies and the lateral forces at pier shoes by the skewness and the rotational effect about vertical axis of skewed bridge due to seismic activity are analytically evaluated and identified through case studies. For this purpose, the composite steel girder highway bridges are selected as case study models. The seismic analyses by response spectrum method and time history method are performed for the selected models. It has been recognized that the frequency of longitudinal model increased as the skew angle decreased, while the lateral mode frequency showed the opposite trends. When the skew angle decreased, longitudina seismic forces of the bridge at the pier were increased but decreased in transverse direction. And it also has been found that the skewed bridges of the case study models showed the rotational behavior about vertical axis due to motion of San Fernando earthquake at Pacoima Dam.

Probabilistic condition assessment of structures by multiple FE model identification considering measured data uncertainty

  • A new procedure is proposed for assessing probabilistic condition of structures considering effect of measured data uncertainty. In this procedure, multiple Finite Element (FE) models are identified by using weighting vectors that represent the uncertainty conditions of measured data. The distribution of structural parameters is analysed using a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) in relation to uncertainty conditions, and the identified models are classified into groups according to their similarity by using a K-means method. The condition of a structure is then assessed probabilistically using FE models in the classified groups, each of which represents specific uncertainty condition of measured data. Yeondae bridge, a steel-box girder expressway bridge in Korea, is used as an illustrative example. Probabilistic condition of the bridge is evaluated by the distribution of load rating factors obtained using multiple FE models. The numerical example shows that the proposed method can quantify uncertainty of measured data and subsequently evaluate efficiently the probabilistic condition of bridges.

  • The study presents the linear dynamic analysis of bridges under vehicular movement to examine the performance characteristics due to the various structural and loading conditions. The road surface roughness and bridge-vehicle interactions are considered. The road surface profiles for the approaching roadway and bridge decks are generated from power spectral density functions for different road roughness conditions. A new filtering method using the wheel trace is proposed to obtain the more rational bridge-vehicle interactions from the randomly generated road surface. The dynamic responses of various bridges designed according to current design practice are examined, in which important structural parameters(such as span length, girder spacing, etc.) are considering systematically. In addition, the traffic conditions of multi-truck traveling either consecutively on the same lane or side-by-side on the adjacent lanes are also evaluated.

  • The topic on today is dynamic response analysis of curved bridge-AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit) vehicle interaction system. Rubber wheel type AGT vehicle is adopted in this study, and the vehicle is idealized as three dimensional eleven DOF model. Three types of composited steel box girder bridges are modelized with F.E. method. And three types of artificially generated surface roughnesses are adopted for analysis. The dynamic equations of curved bridge, AGT vehicle and surface roughness are derived by using Lagrange's equation of motion. And the equations are solved by Newmark-${\beta}$ method. As a result, The dynamic increasement factor is inverse proportional to radius curvature.

  • A number of efforts had been sought to instrument bridges for the purpose of structural monitoring and assessment. The outcome of these efforts, as gauged by advances in the understanding of the definition of structural damage and their role in sensor selection as well as in the design of cost and data-effective monitoring systems, has itself been difficult to assess. The authors' experience with the design, calibration, and operation of a monitoring system for the Kishwaukee Bridge in Illinois has provided several lessons that bear upon these concerns. The systems have performed well in providing a continuous, low-cost monitoring platform for bridge engineers with immediate relevant information.

  • The characteristic of load-distribution is investigated by using nonlinear analysis with a field loading test of existing bridge In this study, nonlinear load-distribution technique for quantitative analysis was adopted. The results were compared with linear solution technique with data from failure test at existing RCT-girder bridge and examine the adequacy of the failure mode. The results of this study showed that the linear solution technique and the proposed nonlinear solution technique agreed well in linear region but did not matched well in nonlinear region because of load-redistribution, and that the effect of load-redistribution was considered to analysis of nonlinear region by linear solution.
