일부 지역에 거주하는 영아어머니의 모유수유의 중단이유와 모유수유 지식정도에 관한 조사연구 (A Study on Why Breastfeeding be Interrupted and Knowledge of Breastfeeding)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the reason of interruption and the knowledge of breastfeeding. The samples of 117 mothers who have the babies between age from 1 month to 12 months were selected from one university hospital and one public health care center in J City. The data were collected with the questionnaire during the period from the January. 5. 2002 through January. 30. 2002. Analysis was done by using frequency. percentage. t-test. ANOVA. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. The comparison of the method of feeding by general characteristics. income state(p= .019), rearing supporters(p=.026) and infant age(p=.03) have shown significant difference as the variables affecting breastfeeding practice rate. Breastfeeding rate were 24.8%. mixed- feeding type, 14.5%. milkfeeding type. 60.7%. 2. The major reason which breastfeeding be done was 'for health of baby'. In the period of breastfeeding, a large number of mothers answered' up to. 6 months'. The major reason of breasttfeeding interruption was 'insufficient quantity of breastmilk'. 3. The mean of knowledge on breastfeeding by feeding patterns were the highest in the breastfeeding group(F= 10.228, p= .000). 4. In a grade of each item on knowledge of breastfeeding, over 80% of mothers wrongly answered in two items; components comparison between breastmilk and cow's milk and when the mother fell sick. whether she have to be feed breastmilk. or not. In the conclusion. this study revealed that knowledge of breastfeeding promoted practice of breastfeeding. However we suggest that systemic and supportive breastfeeding program for promoting the knowledge and the practice rate of breastfeeding have to be provided by nurses.

일부 의과대학 4학년 학생들의 모유수유에 대한 태도 및 지식 (Senior Medical Students' Attitudes toward and Knowledge about Breastfeeding)

  • Objectives. This study surveyed medical students attending clerkship to assess their attitude toward and knowledge about breastfeeding, and self-confidence to manage common breastfeeding problems. Methods. A self-report questionnaire was administered to the 323 medical students at four medical colleges in Taegu in May 1997. The response rate was 92.9%, but the respondents used in the final data analysis were 245 (75.8%) due to missing variables. Results. Overall, respondents showed equivocal attitudes toward breastfeeding (mean score 2.9 on a 6-point scale). Knowledge about breastfeeding was substantially low with the median % correct 39.2%. Of nine knowledge areas, weak areas were especially 'contraindications and barriers to breastfeeding', 'use of breastfeeding aids', 'expression and storage of breast milk'. Those reported to be confident to manage common breastfeeding problems were only 25.7%. Correlations between knowledge and self-confidence were not statistically significant except in college A (r=0.35, p<0.05). Correlations between knowledge and attitude were not significant. Conclusions. These results suggest that medical students attending clerkship in Taegu show equivocal attitudes toward breastfeeding, low self-confidence to manage common breastfeeding problems and have substantially limited level of knowledge. There should be more concerted efforts to improve this situation on the part of those involved in breastfeeding education.

여대생의 모유수유 지식 및 태도 조사 (A Survey of Female College Students' Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Breastfeeding)

  • Breastfeeding is an ideal approach for physical and emotional development of babies, as well as recovery of mothers. A breastfeeding education for female students seems to be an effective intervention to increase the Korean women breastfeeding rate. The purpose of this study was to evaluate their knowledge, attitudes, and other related breastfeeding variables for developing a design for a pre-parental breastfeeding educational information for Korean female students of childbearing age. The sample consisted of 205 Korean female college students, ranging in age from 20 to 25 years old. In this study, a self-administered questionnaire included 6 pages with close-ended multiple-choice questions, and included a cover page with 15 questions on demographic characteristics and personal experiences related to breastfeeding. Data analysis was done utilizing inferential statistics using SPSS 12.0 computer program. The findings indicated that breastfeeding education programs should focus on the practical aspect of attitudes toward. breastfeeding, and that educational information design should focus on the practical aspects of breastfeeding for all. levels of students' education by nurses. Therefore, education for female college students seems to be an effective intervention to increase breastfeeding rate. This study is useful for descriptions of educational activities to help female students develop positive attitudes to breastfeed, to help these students have confidence toward breast-feeding in future by providing correct information and practical techniques on breastfeeding.

모유수유지식에 따른 수유형태에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Knowledge of Breast feeding and Practice of feeding pattern)

Analysis was done by using frequency, percentage, t-test, analysis of variance, and scheffe test. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. Income state, rearing (p=.019), rearing supporters(p=.026), infant age(p=.03) have shown significant difference as the variables affecting Breast practice rate. Breastfeeding rate were 24.8%, mixedfeeding type, 14.5%, milkfeeding type, 60.7%. The mean of knowledge on breastfeeding by feeding patterns were the highest in the group of breastfeeding. There was statistical significance between the group of breast feeding and milkfeeding(p=.000). In the conclusion, this study revealed that knowledge of breastfeeding promoted practice of breastfeeding. Therefore, to promote practice of breastfeeding, it is necessary that nurses provide adequate information about knowledge of breastfeeding.

모유수유클리닉 이용군과 비이용군의 모유수유 문제, 지식 및 적응 비교 (Comparison of Lactation Problems, Knowledge, and Adaptation on Breastfeeding between Users and Non-Users of Lactation Clinic)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in characteristics, lactation problems, knowledge, and adaptation of breastfeeding between users and non-users of a lactation clinic. Methods: The descriptive study design was utilized using self-report questionnaires. 446 breastfeeding mothers participated in this study. Data were collected from lactation clinics, postpartum care centers, mother's culture centers, public health centers, pediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology outpatient clinics in Seoul, Gyeonggi province, and Chungcheongnam province from August 20 to September 30, 2011. The questionnaires to measure lactation problems, knowledge and adaptation of breastfeeding were used. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 18.0 for Windows. Results: There was statistically significant differences in the breast feeding problems(t=5.71, p<.001) and breastfeeding knowledge(t=2.87, p=.004) between users and non-users of a lactation clinic. Conclusion: The results of this study may provide a foundation to develop nursing intervention for mothers in breastfeeding, and an evidence to expand the role of nurses as breastfeeding specialists.

대학생의 미래 모유수유계획에 영향을 미치는 요인 (A Study on the Future Plans for Infant Feeding Practice and Its Associated Factors among University Students)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the future plan for infant feeding practice and its associated factors among university students so as to develop focus for nutritional education program for the promotion of breastfeeding. The subjects were 301 students (males 130, females 171). The results obtained were as follows. In this survey, the subjects had a basic knowledge of breastfeeding and lactation, especially of the ingredient of breastmilk. However they were not well informed about the physiology and method of breastfeeding and benefits of breastfeeding for mothers. The average scores far attitude toward breastfeeding and lactation were 3.09 points on a 4 point scale, which indicated a slightly positive attitudes toward breastfeeding. However the participants had a negative attitude toward its emotional and practical aspects. Their future plan for infant feeding was breastfeeding 40.3%, formula feeding 3.0% and mixed feeding 56.7%. A concern was that the students showed a high rate with regard to a mixed feeding plan, and Dey decided this based on an incorrect knowledge of breastfeeding. The group who planned to breastfeed in the future (BF) showed higher scores with respect to knowledge and attitudes than those who planned to formula feed or mixed feed (FF + MF). Therefore, to encourage mothers to breastfeed and support breastfeeding, breastfeeding nutritional education is urgently needed among university students. In addition, nutrition education programs should promote the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and the physiology and practical method of breastfeeding. Also a practical and culturally sensitive course about food and nutrition is recommended to inform participants about breastfeeding. (Korean J Community Nutrition 8(2) : 240∼249, 2003)

모유수유모의 모유수유 건강행위에 관한 연구 (A Study on Breastfeeding and Health Behavior of Breastfeeding Mothers)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the performance level of breastfeeding health behaviors and general characteristics of breastfeeding mothers related to breastfeeding health behaviors. Method: 123 breastfeeding mothers whose infants are between 5-7 months of age participated in this study. Data was collected during a Breastfeeding Infant Contest held in September 2007 in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. Health behaviors related to breastfeeding were measured in Likert scale 5 including 20 questions developed by Park et al., and the collected data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, T-test and ANOVA using SPSS program. Result: The performance level on breastfeeding health behaviors scored $3.73{\pm}.35$ on average (5.0 in full score). The score showed that there were significant statistical differences only in the knowledge of breastfeeding between groups. The score of 'enough' knowledge group was higher than that of 'a little short' knowledge group (t=2.071, p=0.045). Conclusion: The performance level on breastfeeding health behaviors was related to the knowledge of breastfeeding in breastfeeding mothers. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance education on breastfeeding health behaviors for mothers of newborns in the hospital and to have a reevaluation process on their performance at the time of revisiting.

  • This study examined nurses' knowledge about breastfeeding (biological signifiance) and their nursing activities for promoting breastfeeding overall deficiency of knowledge about breastfeeding (an average score 12.8 out of 20) and accordingly many nurses did not promote actively merits (preparation, technique, & frequency). We developed new instruments for the measurements of nurses' knowledge (20 items) and activities (30 items). The self-reports of 203 nurses showed of breastfeeding(average score : 65.5 out of 120). Nurses' Knowledge about breastfeeding was significantly related to age, rank of position, and number of nurse' own children promotion of breastfeeding activities by nurses was related to the size of services nurses working in a small or middle sized hospital promoted more breastfeeding activities than a large hospital other factors, such as number of children, also influneced nursing activities for breastfeeding eighty seven percent of the nurses reported that they did not have any in-service education for the breastfeeding. They ascribed reasons for not actively promoting breastfeeding program to the overload of their services and inadequacy of administrative systems.

Assessing exclusive breastfeeding practices, dietary intakes and body mass index (BMI) of nursing mothers in Ekiti State of Nigeria

  • Breastfeeding is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the infants. The benefits of breastfeeding practices to infants and mothers are well documented. However, information on breastfeeding practices and its effect on body mass index (BMI) of mothers are scarce, particularly in Ekiti State of Nigeria. Therefore, the present study is designed to assess breastfeeding practices and its association with BMI of mothers. A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted among breastfeeding mothers that attended postnatal clinic of the state specialist hospitals and maternity centers in the study location. The specialist hospital and two-third of the nine maternity centers were purposively selected because of their health facilities and personnel. The mother-child pairs (200 respondents) were randomly selected from the study locations. Information on demographic characteristic, socio-economic parameters, nutritional knowledge of breastfeeding and dietary intakes of mothers were collected using questionnaires. BMI of mothers was determined as described by World Health Organization. Age distribution of mothers was between 25-34 years; and almost half of respondents had good educational background and were engaged in different occupations. The respondent monthly income ranged between = N = 3500 - 26000 ($26.92 - $200); and their dietary intakes varied between starchy and protein-based food. The result also showed that the respondent consumed enough nutrients to meet up the recommended daily allowance for protein, carbohydrate, fat, zinc, magnesium, sodium and phosphorous requirements. The BMI classifications showed that over three-fifth of respondents were normal, while the remaining were underweight (6%) and overweight/obese (26.5%). Also, large proportion of respondents engaged in exclusive breastfeeding and with good knowledge of breastfeeding practices. Statistically, exclusive breastfeeding practices had no correlation between the BMI and frequency of breastfeeding. The study, therefore, concluded that mothers had good knowledge of breastfeeding practice; and that there was no association between breastfeeding practices and BMI.

모유수유에 대한 간호대학생의 지식 및 태도에 대한 융합연구 (A Convergence Study on Knowledge and Attitude for Breastfeeding of Nursing Students)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 간호대학생의 모유수유에 대한 지식 및 태도를 파악하여 모유수유율 증진을 위한 교육프로그램을 개발하기 위함이다. 간호대학생 1, 2, 3, 4학년 504명을 대상으로 설문조사하였고, 수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN 20.0버전을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 모유수유 지식은 일반적 특성 중 성별, 학년, 대상자의 성장기 수유형태, 모유수유 관찰 경험, 모유수유 교육받은 경험, 바람직한 정보제공자, 교육요구도에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이(p<.05)를 보였다. 모유수유 태도는 성별, 학년, 모유수유 관찰 경험, 모유수유 교육받은 경험, 교육요구도에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이(p<.05)를 보였다. 모유수유에 대한 지식과 태도 간(r=.237, p<.001)에는 통계적으로 유의한 상관관계를 나타냈다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 간호대학생을 위한 체계적이며 다양한 모유수유교육프로그램 개발이 필요하다.
