  • There are an increasing number of healthcare facilaties, especially branch offices, in rural areas to serve the aging population living there. However, there has been a gradual decline in the ratios of recognition, satisfaction and utilization by people who live in the regions. A significant reason of declining the ratios should be the population decline, but the most of population hierarchy shows the groups of elderly people over 60. This result appears to be limited to visit the public health centers. According to the result of population hierarchy, a branch office of public health center has been re-established as a complex welfare facility which can be fulfilled in the functions of basic medical supports and cultural supports. This research is focused on collecting the meaningful information of the status of physical facilities and utilization with 15branch offices of public health care centers in the rural regions near the city of Ik-San city. In addition, this research has a purpose of getting fundamental data for future architectural plans of the branch offices in rural regions with the results about the status of facility operation systems and users' needs.

  • Various formulae for estimation of leaf production in mulberry trees were investigated and obtained. Four varieties of mulberry trees were used as the materials, and four characters. namely branch length (X, 1). branch diameter (X, 2). leaf number per branch (X, 3), and leaf area per branch (X, 4). were studies. The formulae to eatimate the leaf yield of mulberry trees are as follows: 1. Y$_1$v$_1$=-115.760+0.068X$_1$+165.756X$_2$ Y$_1$v$_2$=-221.500+1.768X$_1$+38.152X$_2$ Y$_1$v$_3$=-253.826-0.116X$_1$+289.507X$_2$ Y$_1$v$_4$= -157.559+1.063X$_1$+106.088X$_2$ where Y$_1$v$_1$, Y$_1$v$_2$, Y$_1$v$_3$, Y$_1$v$_4$, are showed the estimated yield of the each variety, namely Gaeryang souban, Ilchirye, Nosang. and Suwon Sang No. 4, respectively. X$_1$ and X$_2$ denote the measured values of branch length and branch diameter, respectively. 2. Y$\sub$7/v$_1$=-118.478-0.665X$_1$+184.445X$_2$+2.346X$_3$ Y$\sub$7/v$_2$=-217.432+2.062X$_1$+35.668X$_2$-1.058X$_3$ Y$\sub$7/v$_3$=-206. 249-0.739X$_1$+268.08X$_2$+2.770X$_3$ Y$\sub$7/v$_4$=-153.383+0.009X$_1$+2.024X$_2$+0.171X$_3$where Y$\sub$7/v$_1$, Y$\sub$7/v$_2$, Y$\sub$7/v$_3$, Y$\sub$7/v$_4$, are the estimated yield of the each variety, namely Gaeryang. Souban, Ilichirye, Nosang, and Suwon Sang No. 4, respectively. X$_1$, X$_2$, X$_3$, denote the measured values of each character. branch length, branch diameter and leaf number per branch, respectively. 3. Y$\sub$11/v$_1$=82. 567-1.283X$_1$+15.501X$_2$+0.640X$_3$+3.511X$_4$ Y$\sub$11/v$_2$=136.411+0.311X$_1$+1.921X$_2$-0. 217X$_3$+0.214X$_4$ Y$\sub$11/v$_3$=150.2Z7-0.139X$_1$+11.788X$_2$+0.143X$_3$+0.381X$_4$ Y$\sub$11/v$_4$=160.850+0.323X$_1$+66.076X$_2$-0.794X$_3$+2..614X$_4$ where Y$\sub$11/v$_1$, Y$\sub$11/v$_2$, Y$\sub$11/v$_3$, Y$\sub$11/v$_4$, are the estimated yield values of four varieties, and X$_1$, X$_2$, X$_3$, X$_4$ denote the measured values of four characters. namely branch length, branch diameter. leaf number per branch and leaf area per branch. respectively. The estimation method of mulberry leaf yield by measurement of some characters, branch length. branch diameter. leaf number per branch and leaf area per branch. could be the better method to determine the leaf yield of mulberry trees without destroying the leaves and without weighting the leaves of mulberry trees than the other methods.

  • The inter-relationship and combining abilities of characters for leaf length, leaf width, branch number, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight were studied in the F1 combination of 15 crosses from the partial six-parent diallel cross in Petunia hybrida. The leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight showed high positive correlation together with the other growth characters such as leaf length, leaf width, branch number, leaf number. The mean squares of general combining ability(GCA) and specific combining ability(SCA) were highly significant for all the growth characters. The estimates of variance components of SCA were greater than those of GCA for all the characters, showing preponderance of non-additive gene actions for these characters. GCA effect was high in the lines of D and G for leaf length and fresh weight, and in the lines of C and D for branch number, leaf number, leaf area and fresh weight. The crosses of D×E, D×G, and E×G exhibited high SCA effect for all the growth characters such as leaf length, leaf width, branch number, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight, and dry weight. The broad sense heritability was generally high compared to narrow sense one in the 7 characters. The highest heritability of the broad and narrow sense was shown in the leaf width and dry weight.

  • Given a rooted tree T with profits and node demands, the capacitated subtree of a tree problem (GSTP) consists of finding a rooted subtree of maximum profit, subject to having total demand no larger than the given capacity H. We first define the so-called critical item for CSTP and find an upper bound on the optimal value of CSTP in O(n$^{2}$) time, where n is the number of nodes in T. We then present our branch and bound algorithm for solving CSTP and illustrate the algiruthm by using an example. Finally, we implement our branch-and-bound algorithm and compare the computational results with those for both CPLEX and a dynamic programming algorithm. The comparison shows that our branch-and-bound algorithm performs much better than both CPLEX and the dynamic programming algorithm, where n and H are the range of [50, 500] and [5000, 10000], respectively.

  • This paper presents a branch prediction algorithm and a 4-way set-associative cache for performance improvement of an embedded RISC core and a clock-gating algorithm with observability don’t care (ODC) operation to reduce the power consumption of the core. The branch prediction algorithm has a structure using a branch target buffer (BTB) and 4-way set associative cache that has a lower miss rate than a direct-mapped cache. Pseudo-least recently used (LRU) policy is used for reducing the number of LRU bits. The clock-gating algorithm reduces dynamic power consumption. As a result of estimation of the performance and the dynamic power, the performance of the OpenRISC core applied to the proposed architecture is improved about 29% and the dynamic power of the core with the Chartered 0.18 ${\mu}m$ technology library is reduced by 16%.

  • Nuclei with the spin quantum number not smaller than unity have not only the nuclear magnetic moment but also the electric quadrupole moment. The quadrupole moment couples with the electric field gradient (EFG) to produce the nuclear quadrupole interaction. It is well known that two independent parameters, i.e. the quadrupole coupling constant (QCC) and the asymmetry parameter ($\eta$) together with the principal axis directions can fully describe the interaction and are very sensitive to the local symmetry and structure of the solid. In order to obtain quantitative estimates of the EFG tensor for various simple ionic configurations surrounding the nucleus under consideration, we employ the simple point charge approximation and apply the calculated results to some real crystals. General agreement is rather satisfactory.

  • Semi-supervised learning incorporates unlabeled examples, whose labels are unknown, as well as labeled examples into learning process. Although transductive support vector machine (TSVM), one of semi-supervised learning models, was proposed about a decade ago, its application to large-scaled data has still been limited due to its high computational complexity. Our previous research addressed this limitation by introducing a branch-and-bound algorithm for finding an optimal solution to TSVM. In this paper, we propose three new techniques to enhance the performance of the branch-and-bound algorithm. The first one tightens min-cut bound, one of two bounding strategies. Another technique exploits a graph-based approximation to a support vector machine problem to avoid the most time-consuming step. The last one tries to fix the labels of unlabeled examples whose labels can be obviously predicted based on labeled examples. Experimental results are presented which demonstrate that the proposed techniques can reduce drastically the number of subproblems and eventually computational time.

  • In general, solution of electric networks requires both node and loop analysis, in which node pair voltages and loop currents are treated as network variables, but the conjugate quantities of these variables (the branch currents and node pair voltages respectively) are to be obtained through additional solving operation. In case of networks with magnetic coupling, however, the coupling keeps the conjugate variables mutually dependent and its final solution requires further calculation. In this paper is analyzed the method of obtaining the conjugate quantities through treatment of the problrm in a subspace with dimensions of number of magnetically coupled branches.

  • Dimensional variation of secondary xylem elements, such as vessel element and fiber, was investigated in root, stem and branch of Alnus hirsuta and A. firma. It is clear that vessel diameter in the root is the widest, next in the stem, and the least in the branch. Length of vessel element among them becomes, however, larger in following sequence; stem, root, and branch, whereas fiber diameter and length are the widest in the root, the second in the stem, and the least in the branch. The size of secondary xylem element at any one level in tree increases from the center (pith) of the organs through a number of annual rings to the outer.
