  • Machines that normally operate under fluid film lubricated condition also experience surface damage. This is largely due to the failure of the lubricant film which leads to boundary lubrication. Thus, it is important to have a good understanding of boundary lubrication behavior. In this paper the major tribological parameters that influence the boundary lubrication properties are evaluated. It is shown that disk roughness, hardness and normal load affect the friction and wear of metals in boundary lubrication. Also, the mechanism of surface damage is attributed to abrasion and wear particle interaction.

  • The present work examines the influence of surface coating on the temperature and the thermo-mechanical stress field produced by friction due to sliding contact. A two-dimensional transient model of a layered medium submitted to a moving heat flux is prsented. A solution technique based on the boundary element method employing the multiregion technique is utilized. Results are presented showing the influence of coating thickness, thermal properties, Peclet number, and mechanical properties. It has been shown that the mechanical properties and thickness of coating have a significant influence on the stress field, even for low temperature increase. The effects of the ratios of shear modulus become more important for low temperature increase than the effects of the ratios of other mechanical properties.

  • In this study, the capacitance-voltage properties of (Sr$_{1-x}$ .Ca$_{x}$)TiO$_3$(0.05$\leq$x$\leq$0.20)-based grain boundary layer ceramics were investigated. The ceramics were fabricated by the conventional mixed oxide method. The sintering temperature and time were 1480~150$0^{\circ}C$ and 4 hours, respectively. The 2nd phase formed by the thermal diffusion of CuO from the surface leads to very excellent dielectric properties, that is, $\varepsilon$$_{r}$>50000, tan$\delta$<0.05, $\Delta$C<$\pm$10%. The capacitance is almost unchanged below about 20[V] but it decreases slowly about 20[V]. The results of the capacitance-voltage properties indicated that the grain boundary was composed of the continuous insulating layers.ulating layers.s.

  • Microstructures and dielectric properties of (Sr$\_$1-x/Ca$\_$x/) TiO$_3$-0.006Nb$_2$O$\_$5/ (0.05$\leq$x$\leq$0.2) boundary layer ceramics were investigated. The samples fired in a reducing atmosphere(N$_2$) were painted on the surface with CuO paste for the subsequent grain boundary diffusion, and then annealed at 1100$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. The metal oxide of CuO infiltrated by thermal diffusion from surface of sample presents continuously in not grain but only grain boundary, and makes up thin boundary phase. The SEM photo, and EDAX revealed that CuO was penetrated rapidly into the bulk along the grain boundaries during the annealing. The average grain sizes is continuously increased as the content of substitutional Ca is increased from 5[mol%] to 15[mol%], but the average grain size of the sample with content of 20[mol%] Ca is slightly decreased. In the samples with content of 10∼15[mol%] Ca, excellent dielectric properties were obtained as follows; dielectric constant <25000, dielectric loss <0.3[%], and capacitance change rate as a function of temperature <${\pm}$10[%], respectively. All samples in this study exhibited dielectric relaxation with frequency as a functior of the temperature.

  • The boundary of a typical period-2 component in the degree-3 bifurcation set is formulated by a parametrization of its image which is the unit circle under the multiplier map, Some properties on the geometry of the boundary are investigated including the root point, the cusp, the component center and the length as well as the area bounded by the boundary curve. An algorithm drawing the boundary curve with Mathematica codes is proposed and its implementation exhibits a good agreement with the analysis presented here.

  • We introduced the concepts of the generalized accumulation points and the generalized density of a subset of the Euclidean space in [1] and [2]. Using those concepts, we introduce the concepts of the generalized closure, the generalized interior, the generalized exterior and the generalized boundary of a subset and investigate some properties of these sets. The generalized boundary of a subset is closely related to the classical boundary. Finally, we also introduce and study a concept of the thickness of a subset.

  • Geometrically nonlinear axisymmetric bending analysis of shear deformable circular plates on a nonlinear three-parameter elastic foundation was made. Plates ranging from "thin" to "moderately thick" were investigated for three types of material: isotropic, transversely isotropic, and orthotropic. The differential equations were discretized by means of the finite difference method (FDM) and the differential quadrature method (DQM). The Newton-Raphson method was applied to find the solution. A parametric investigation using seven unknowns per node was presented. The novelty of the paper is that detailed numerical simulations were made to highlight the combined effects of the material properties and the boundary conditions on (i) the deflection, (ii) the stress resultants, and (iii) the external load. The formulation was verified through comparison studies. It was observed that the results are highly influenced from the boundary conditions, and from the material properties.
