  • This paper utilizes computational asymptotic analysis to compute the boundary layer solution for composite beams and validates the findings through a comparison with ANSYS results. The boundary layer solution, presented as a sum of the interior solution and pure boundary layer effects, necessitates a mathematically rigorous formalization for both interior and boundary layer aspects. Computational asymptotic analysis emerges as a robust technique for addressing such problems. However, the challenge lies in connecting the boundary layer and interior solutions. In this study, we systematically separate the principles of virtual work and the principles of Saint-Venant to tackle internal and boundary layer issues. The boundary layer solution is articulated by calculating the Papkovich-Fadle eigenfunctions, representing them as linear combinations of real and imaginary vectors. To address warping functions in the interior solutions, we employed a least squares method. The computed solutions exhibit excellent agreement with 2D finite element analysis results, both quantitatively and qualitatively. This validates the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach in capturing the behavior of composite beams.

  • This paper presents the effects of a virtual mass on the stability boundary of a virtual spring in the haptic system with first-order-hold. The virtual rigid body is modeled as a virtual spring and a virtual mass. When first-order-hold is applied, we analyze the stability boundary of the virtual spring through the simulation according to the virtual mass and the sampling time. As the virtual mass increases, the stability boundary of the virtual spring gradually increases and then decreases after reaching the maximum value. The results are compared with the stability boundary in the haptic system with zero-order-hold. When a virtual mass is small, the stability boundary of a virtual spring in the system with first-order-hold is larger than that in the system with zero-order-hold.

  • The grain boundary effect on the ionic conductivity was investigated using a.c. admittance analysis in (Bi2O3)0.715(CaO)0.285 oxygen-ion conducting solid electrolyte. As a separated arc representing grain boundary polarization was not observed in the admittance plane, bulk conductivity was measrued for samples with various grain sizes in the temperature range from 48$0^{\circ}C$ to 72$0^{\circ}C$ and the conductivity distribution between grain interior and grain boundary was determined by the reported analytical methods. In the above temperature range, grain boundary worked as a high conductive path instead of blocking layer and ionic conduction through grain boundary was significant. The activation energy for conduction through grain and grain boundary was 78 and 106 kJ/mol, respectively.

  • In this paper, a new boundary tracking algorithm for extracting finger area, which may be utilized by a finger crease pattern recognition algorithm, is proposed. Due to noise and irregular illumination, conventional algorithms for boundary tracking such as skeleton-based tracking methods were not suitable for typical boundary image of hand. So we propose a new finger boundary tracking algorithm utilizing a boundary-point-detection mask. We have observed that the proposed method provides stable and optimised boundary tracking.

  • The objective of this study is to verify the secondary flow and the total pressure loss distribution in the boundary layer fence installed linear turbine cascade passage and to propose an appropriate height of the boundary layer fence which shows the best loss reduction among the simulated fences. In this study three different boundary layer fence was installed which have different height. This study was performed by numerical method and the result showed the boundary layer fence which has the height of one third of the inlet boundary layer thickness showed the best loss reduction rate.

  • A new analytical solution based on a third order shear deformation theory for the problem of static analysis of cross-ply doubly-curved shells is presented. The boundary-discontinuous generalized double Fourier series method is used to solve highly coupled linear partial differential equations with the mixed type simply supported boundary conditions prescribed on the edges. The complementary boundary constraints are introduced through boundary discontinuities generated by the selected boundary conditions for the derivation of the complementary solution. The numerical accuracy of the solution is compared by studying the comparisons of deflections, stresses and moments of symmetric and anti-symmetric laminated shells with finite element results using commercially available software under uniformly distributed load. Results are in good agreement with finite element counterparts. Additional results of the symmetric and anti-symmetric laminated and sandwich shells under single point load at the center and pressure load, are presented to provide data for the unsolved boundary conditions, benchmark comparisons and verifications.

  • The vibration shape of the structure with arbitrary boundary condition under excitation is determined by the governing equation and the boundary condition and driving force. In this paper, driving point impedance that is defined by the ratio of the driving force at one point to the velocity of that point is selected as a measure to identify the boundary condition. First, this paper deals with a string with arbitrary boundary condition. It is selected because of its simplicity, but generality of which exhibits the desired physical phenomena. Particularly the relation among the driving point impedance, the boundary condition and the vibration shape is dealt as a primary step to identify the boundary condition by using the driving point impedance.

  • The scattered electric field from a multilayered circular dielectric cylinder is caculated. Approximate boundary condition used in on-surface radiation boundary condition(OSRC) method has been applied to all the boundary surface of N-layered dielectric cylinder. It was assumed that scattered electric field at inner boundary surface in one region transmitted to the adjacent region at outer boundary surface. In the whole region, the unknown coefficients of electric field are acquired by the given incident electric field with ease. Electric field distribution at each boundary surface and the scattered electric field in free space are taken with the calculated unknown coefficients. the results obtainted were compared with those results that were used by regular surface boundary condition.

  • In a computational fluid dynamics, the imposition of open boundary condition has an important part of the accuracy but it is not easy to find the optimal boundary rendition. This difficult is introduced by making artificial boundary in unbounded domairs. Such open boundary requires us to ensure the continuity of all primitive variables because the nature is in continuum. Here we introduce a revised well-conditioned open boundary condition particularly in FEM and apply it to various problems-entrainment, body force, short domains.

  • The method proposed in this paper can improve the performance of the Boosting algorithm in machine learning. The proposed Boundary AdaBoost algorithm can make up for the weak points of Normal binary classifier using threshold boundary concepts. The new proposed boundary can be located near the threshold of the binary classifier. The proposed algorithm improves classification in areas where Normal binary classifier is weak. Thus, the optimal boundary final classifier can decrease error rates classified with more reasonable features. Finally, this paper derives the new algorithm's optimal solution, and it demonstrates how classifier accuracy can be improved using the proposed Boundary AdaBoost in a simulation experiment of pedestrian detection using 10-fold cross validation.
