  • The object of this paper is to evaluate SCC(stress corrosion cracking) susceptibility for parent metal and bond line region of weld joints which have the various weld heat input condtions in TMCP(thermo-mechanical control process) steel by SP-SSRT(small punch-slow strain rate test) method. And the SCC test results of TMCP steel are compared with those of the conventional HT50 steel which has te almost same tensile strength level like TMCP steel. The loading rate used was $3\times10^{-4}$mm/min and the corrosive environment was synthetic sea water. According to the test results, in the case of parent metal, TMCP steel showed higher SCC susceptibility than HT50 steel because of the high plastic strain level of ferrite microstructure obtained by accelerated cooling. And in the case of bond line, the both TMCP steel and HT50 steel showed low load-displacement behaviors and higher SCC susceptibility above 0.6. These results may be caused by theembrittled martensite structure on HT50 steel and by the coarsened grain and the proeutectoid ferrite structure obtained by the impart of accelerated cooling effect on TMCP steel.

  • When the low temperature service steels are used as materials for welded structure, some problems-brittleness and weld cracking, etc.-occur in welded part due to the change of mechanical and metallurgical characteristics resulted from the thermal cycle during the welding procedure. In this study, the experiments were conducted to investigate the change of mechanical and metallurgical characteristics of the welded part for the low temperature and high pressure service steels. Moreover, the Static and Dynamic Implant Test Method was introduced to this study in order to find out the mechnism of weld cracking. In addition, the fracture toughnesses of welded bond were inspected under the various low temperature environments. Main results obtained are as follows; 1) The effect of the hydrogen on the fatigue characteristics of the weld bond can be estimated by the new self-contrived Dynamic Implant Test equipment. 2) The fine micro-structure and low hardness in the heat affected zone can be obtained by the small heat input multi-pass welding. 3) The susceptibility of the delayed cracking is largely affected by the condition of used electrode. 4) The transition temperature of the fracture surface in weld bond appears to be higher 20 .deg. C than that in base metal.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete column with lap splice confined by FRP wrapping in the critical hinging zone. The steel stress-slip model derived from the tri-uniform bond stress model presented in the companion paper is included in the nonlinear frame analysis to simulate the response of reinforced concrete columns subjected to cyclic displacement reversals. The nonlinear modeling is based on a fiber discretization of an RC column section. Each fiber is modeled as either nonlinear concrete or steel spring, whose load-deformation characteristics are calculated from the section of fiber and material properties. The steel spring that models the reinforcing bars consists of three sub-springs, i.e., steel bar sub-spring, lap splice spring, and anchorage bond-slip spring connected in series from top to bottom. By combining the steel stress versus slip of the lap splice, the stress-deformation of steel bar and the steel stress-slip of bars anchored into the footing, the nonlinear steel spring model is derived. The analytical responses are found to be close to experimental ones. The analysis without lap splice springs included may result in an erroneous overestimation in the strength and ductility of columns.

  • The extensive use of pretensioned prestressed concrete in the modem construction industry, together with wider application of pretensioned components for structural purposes requires some important consideration on the adequate transfer of prestress force into the concrete, especially around the end zones of pretensioned member. The main objective of this paper is to study the effects of various important parameters on the bond characteristics of prestressing strand around the end zone of high strength pretensioned concrete members. To this end, a comprehensive experimental program has been set up. The principal test variables considered were strand diameter, concrete strength, concrete cover size. The present study provides valuable test data for the realistic and accurate determination of transfer length, which can be efficiently used for improving the design equation of transfer length in pretensioned prestressed concrete members.

  • Adfreeze bond strength is a primary design parameter, which determines bearing capacity of pile foundation in frozen ground. It is reported that adfreeze bond strength is influenced by various affecting factors like freezing temperature, confining pressure, characteristics of pile surface, soil type, etc. However, several limited researches have been performed to obtain adfreeze bond strength, for past studies considered only few affecting factors such as freezing temperature and type of pile structures. Therefore, there exists a limitation of estimating the design parameter of pile foundation with various factors in frozen ground. In this study, artificial neural network algorithm was involved to predict adfreeze bond strength with various affecting factors. From past five studies, 137 data for various experimental conditions were collected. It was divided by 100 training data and 37 testing data in random manner. Based on the analysis result, it was found that it is necessary to consider various affecting factors for the prediction of adfreeze bond strength and the prediction with artificial neural network algorithm provides enough reliability. In addition, the result of parametric study showed that temperature and pile type are primary affecting factors for adfreeze bond strength. And it was also shown that vertical stress influences only certain temperature zone, and various soil types and loading speeds might cause the change of evolution trend for adfreeze bond strength.

  • The seismic performance evaluation of the existing non-seismic detailed RC piers has risen as urgent task for rational and cost-effective seismic retrofitting works as well as development of new seismic design concept. The scale model test has been conducted to investigate nonlinear behavior characteristics and the seismic performance of existing piers with lap-spliced longitudinal reinforcements in the plastic hinge zone which are of the solid circular and the hollow rectangular section. The lap splice in this zone is found to cause premature bond failure. The experimental results show very poor seismic performance of circular section pier but relatively large ductility of the rectangular one.

  • The behavior of corner crack propagation by unidirectional plane bending fatigue was investigated in the butt welded joints of SS41 and SM50 steel plates including an edge through-thickness notch. The properties of fatigue crack propagation were inspected in the weld metal, heat-affected zone, and base metal of the welded joints. Main results obtained are as follows; (1) When a plate with an edge through-thickness notch is loaded by plane bending fatigue in indirection, the 2 variant corner cracks on the upper and lower edge of the plate are initiated and propagated respectively from the notch. (2) In case of a specimen containing a corner crack, it is more reasonable to estimate the crack propagation rate by area of fracture surface than by crack surface length. (3) The rate of fatigue crack propagation becomes faster in the following order; weld metal, heat-affected zone, and base metal. (4) The specimen including reinforcement shape is rapidly failed throughout bond due to effect of its shape when the repeated load exceeds a certain cycle.

  • For the purpose of studying the change of mechanical properties of weld parts, shielded metal are welding, one-pole and two-pole submerged arc welding were accomplished weldability on $60kg/mm^2$ quenched and tempered high strength steel. Charpy impact values of the weld metal in welded parts by SMAW and SAW were lower than those of the heat affected zone and increased in order of bond, coarsened, refined and carbon spheroidized regions in the heat affected zone. Grain size of prior austenite or M-A constituent did not significantly affect toughness of welded parts, but precipitated carbide films which forms at the grain boundaries or within matrix and volume fraction of pearilte were most important factor for toughness.

  • In this study, dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15mm diameter solid bar in chrome molybedenum steel(SCM440) to carbon steel(S45C) to investigate their mechanical properties and the relationship between the weld parameters and the nondestructive coefficients, such as AE counts and ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond of area and heat affected zone. The specimens were tested as-welded and post weld heat treated(PWHT). The tensile strength of the friction welded steel bars was increased up to 100% of the S45C base metal under the condition of all heating time. The ductility of PWHT specimens is higher than as-welded.

  • Evaluating the empirical validity of Modern Monetary Theory, this study implements panel cointegration analysis on annual panel data (2000-2022) of OECD countries. Specifically, the sample countries are divided into groups based on the presence of their own sovereign currencies, and for each group, the long-run equilibrium relation (cointegration) between the ratio of public debt or fiscal deficit and government bond rates is tested and estimated. Main findings are as follows: applying the pooled mean-group estimation for panel cointegration, it is found that both the ratios of public debt and fiscal deficit have significantly positive long-run correlation with government bond rates in countries without sovereign currency such as the Euro-zone or fixed exchange rate regime countries. However, in countries with sovereign currency such as non-Euro-zone or floating exchange rate regime countries, the long-run correlation is either negative or not statistically significant. Particularly, in countries without sovereign currency, the ratio of public debt has significantly positive correlation with the real government bond rates in the short run as well as the long run. These results are consistent with the prediction of Modern Monetary Theory, thus providing a supporting evidence for the empirical validity of the theory.
