  • The purposes of this study were to classify somatotype was obtained from the factor scores of the upper half of body and analyze the somatometric characteristics. The sample group was drawn from boys at the ages 9 to 10 living in Pusan and Kyungsangnam-do. Data from each boy comprised 36 anthropometric measurements and 7 photographic measurements. The study reached following conclusions. 1. According to the analysis to draw somatometric factors, seven indicative factors were obtained from measurements of the upper half of body. The most significant factor "sectional size" and the second most significant factor "longitudinal size" characterized most aspects of body shape. 2. According to the analysis of somatometric characteristics by the upper half of body, they were categorized into four types; Boys in type 1 had high stature, broadest shoulders, average frame, flattest chest and quite protruded shoulder blades and belly; boys in type 2 had shortest stature, smallest frame, most sloping shoulders and flattest shoulder blades and belly; boys in type 3 had quite corpulent with average stature, rising shoulders, most protruded chest and shoulder blades and belly of protrusion close to the average; boys in type 4 had highest stature, biggest frame, broad shoulders and back, and most protruded shoulder blades and belly.

  • This study analyzed the relationships among actual body types, perceived body types, body-image discrepancy(difference between perceived and ideal body), and body satisfaction, and their effects on jacket fit satisfaction at 17 body parts of women in their 20s. To apprehend the actual body type of subjects, total 18 items were measured according to the anthropometric method of the 6th anthropometric survey project. The relationship between body-image discrepancy and body satisfaction was correlated in all body parts. Body-image discrepancy and body satisfaction were more affected by perceived body size than actual body size. The fit satisfaction level of the jacket was found to be lower as the discrepancy between the body type and the ideal body type was recognized. As the waist girth, hip girth, armscye girth, and upper arm girth were smaller, the height was taller, bust girth and breast size were larger, these body sizes were considered as closer to the ideal body shape and the jacket fit of the area was more satisfied. When the perceived body sizes and the actual body sizes were compared, the women in their 20s tended to perceive their waist, abdomen, and hip as larger, their shoulder length and front/back interscye as longer, their breast size as smaller, and their waist height as lower than the actual size.

  • Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc.. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with somato type by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results were obtained three somato type. Also I made skirts in order to analyzed to the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The effect of somato type on the shape of flare skirts was determined by the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape. Results for flare skirts show changes in amplitude and mean with fabrics, somato type. therefore gray-level histogram are correlated with changes out-line space-shape, differences in drape spacing and related fabric properties and their somato type. • The purpose of this study was to provide dress forms and jacket blocks for adult males based on the analysis of their somatotypes. As the result of the research conducted for this study that was based on 1290 males of 20 to 54 years-old, the shapes of adult male were 20 and each body shape was classified by size factor, height and chest girth. Also, master sizes were selected considering appearance frequency. XS type (master size: height 165cm and chest circumference 88cm), Yd type (master size: height 170cm and chest circumference 91cm), YI and AD2 types (master size: height 170cm and chest circumference 94cm) were selected to develop dress forms and their jacket blocks in this study. The procedure and results were follows; 1. The dress forms of XS, Yd, YI and AD2 types were produced base on means of 61 body measurements and cross sections of shoulder, chest, waist, hip of subjects belong to each somatotype. 2. New jacket blocks for XS, Yd, YI and AD2 types were developed based on the body surface developments through draping and the results of comparative investigation on the existing jacket blocks by wearing test. Also the drafting methods of new jacket blocks were provided. 3. The sensory evaluation by wearing test showed that the developed jacket blocks were estimated more highly in terms of chest's allowance, the front width's allowance, neck wrinkle, front allowance and overall appearance's fitness items than existing jacket blocks.

  • This study is to classify the somatotypes of middle-aged women by many critera and figure out he characteristics of each somatotypes. The subjects are 614 middle-aged women between 35 and 59 years old and the research is based on anthropometric and photometric measurement by photographing their body parts. The results are as follows; 1. The result of factor analysis indicated that 11 factors were extracted through factor analysis and orthogonal rotation by the method of varimax and those factors comprised 85.71 percent of total variance. 2. As the result of cluster analysis the group of the middle-aged women is classified as 6 types. Type 1 is short, fat, H type in front and lean-back type on the side. Type 2 is standard in height and weight. Type 3 is standard height, fat, long upper body, bend-forward type and protrude of the hip on the side. Type 4 is tall, thin, short upper body, having clearly protrude of the back and hip and lean-back type on the side. Type 5 is neither short nor tall, slim, X type in front and I type on the side. Type 6 is tall, thin and B type on the side. 3. As the result of observing the mutual corresponding relation between these 6 groups and age/Rohrers Index, the somatotype of the middle-aged women is divided at the age of 45. Accordingly when it comes to progress the study of the middle-aged women in the future, we will have to observe the characteristics for dividing the first half and the second half of age of 45.
