To clarify the bloom pattern and species succession in phytoplankton community, the population dynamics with the determination of physico-chemical factors have been studies in Masan Bay, the south sea of Korea, for the periods November 2003-October 2004. Concentration of $NH_4-N$ was always higher than that of $NO_3-N$, which was similar level as compared to other costal areas. $PO_4-P$ concentration was lower than those in other coastal areas but similar to oligotrophic environments. Thus, phosphate seems the limiting nutrient rather than nitrogen. $SiO_2-Si$ concentration was also low as compared to other costal areas. Si:P ratio was low from autumn to winter, suggesting silicate and/or phosphate limitation during this period. The cell density of phytoplankton was high in winter 2003 and early autumn 2004. The carbon biomass was high in winter 2003 and summer 2004. And chlorophyll-a concentration was high in late autumn 2003 and summer 2004. Among 78 species of phytoplankton found in the bay during the investigated period, dominant species were two diatoms of Cylindrotheca closterium, Skeletonema costatum, and three dinoflagellates of Heterocapsa triquetra, Prorocentrum minimum, P. triestinum, and one raphidophyte of Heterosigma akashiwo. P. minimum dominated from late autumn to winter, but it was replaced by H. triquetra in late winter. P. triestinum dominated from late spring to early summer. Simultaneously, H. akashiwo cell density steadily increased, and it became dominant with C. closterium in late summer. With decreasing of H. akashiwo and C. closterium, S. costatum became the most dominant species in autumn. The canonical analyses showed that total phytoplankton cell density related to diatom cell density and it was affected by temperature, and concentrations of $NO_3-N\;and\;PO_4-P$. The carbon bio-mass and $chlorophyll-{\alpha}$ concentration related to diatom- and dinoflagellate cell densities and these were affected by flagellate cell density, salinity, and concentrations of $SiO_2-Si\;and\;PO_4-P$. Last six years monitoring data in Masan city obtained from Korean Meteorological Agency indicates gradual increase in air temperature. And the precipitation decreased especially in spring season. The winter bloom found in 2003 may be caused by the increase in the temperature and this bloom subsequently induced the nutrients depletion, which continued until next spring probably due to no precipitation. Therefore, the spring bloom, which had been usually observed in the bay, might disappear in 2004.

In sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) growing there are several severe problem which have to be overcome to produce highly graded fruits because of fruit rots and fruit crackings, if there is frequent precipitation during immature fruit step and picking season. In order to reduce fungicide sprayings and produce qualified fruits in areas with rainy season like as South Korea, rain-sheltered growing is necessary absolutely. Sweet cherry blooms early to medium April in southern area of South Korea. If we depend on honeybees (Apis mellifera) distributed in natural ecosystem, it is not easy to get normal fruit-set every season because of low temperature around blooming time. And also bee keepers seldom sell honeybee hives as a pollinator during spring, instead they keep honeybee hives to get honey. Recently use of B. terrestris as a pollinator of cherry tomato, oriental pumpkin etc. grown in protected cultivation system increase abundantly. Therefore, in this study we studied B. terrestris as an alternate of honeybee to pollinate sweet cherry grown in rain shelter. In part of foraging activity B. terrestris shows staying on a cherry flower for about six second and visiting frequency of 11 flowers per minute. However A. mellifera stayed about 15 second on a flower and visited 4~5 flowers per minute. There were no significant difference in fruit-setting rate and fruit characteristics after using B. terrestris and A. mellifera as pollinators of sweet cherry. Consequently there is no negative effect when we use B. terrestris as an alternate pollinator of A. mellifera in sweet cherry cultivation under rain shelter.
'Secret Pink' was released by National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science in 2008. The cross was made between '03B1-23' and 'Sei-Monaco in 2005'. After the evaluation of the characteristics under shade culture in summer and retarding culture in spring and consecutive selection from 2006 to 2008, 'Secret Pink' was selected finality. The natural flowering time of 'Secret Pink' was the middle of October, and it is possible to flower all year round by shade and light culture. It has single type flowers with pink petals. The growth of plant was very vigorous and response time was 6.5 weeks. The diameter of flower was 6.7 cm. Number of flowers per stem and petals per flower were 14.5 and 25, respectively. Days to flowering under the short day treatment was about 50 and its vase life was 25.5 days in autumn season.
Climate change is recognised as the best serious environmental problem in recent time, and high alpine or high latitudinal organisms especially endangered by its change. Leontice microrhyncha is recorded one of the endangered species by the Ministry of Environment Korea. We surveyed ten L. microrhyncha populations distributed at Taebaek Mountains, high mountain area in Kangwon province. L. microrhyncha is distributed 940m~1350m high altitude which equivalent of Warmth Index $53^{\circ}C{\cdot}month$ to $75^{\circ}C{\cdot}month$, the range of conspicuous cool temperate forest zone. The plant species distributed at slope of $5^{\circ}{\sim}23^{\circ}$ on northeast slopes. The vegetation structure at tree layer of L. microrhyncha distribution area is dominated by Quercus mongolica, Betula costata, Cornus controversa, Acer mono in tree layer, and by Staphylea bumalda, Deutzia glabrata, Stephanandra incisa in shrub layer. The species diversity of herb layer of each L. microrhyncha population showed from 0.21 to 0.98, and the importance value of L. microrhyncha in each population was the highest at blooming time of L. microrhyncha. These results will provide the basic information for the development of conservation strategies for this endangered species.
We investigated whether external environmental factors acted as a trigger for flowering in the draft bamboo (Sasa borealis (Hack.) Makino) blooming area of Mt. Baekwoon located in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province. We then considered the cause for flowering, flowering patterns and life history strategies of the draft bamboo based on the investigation. There were no differences in soil, physical conditions, and light amount between the draft bamboo flowering and non-flowering areas. The precipitation and temperature of the areas in Korea and Japan where it blossomed from 2014 to 2017 were similar to the normal year values (for the past 30 years). Moreover, most of the draft bamboo died after flowering on a large scale, but some did not, or some culms were developed again. In other words, the draft bamboo bloomed simultaneously regardless of external environmental factors, and most of the culms were dead, but some were left alive. Therefore, it is considered that the flowering is triggered by the specific genes (referred as to clock genes) expressed periodically by a biological clock rather than the external environmental factors. Meanwhile, the draft bamboos generally bloom on a large scale by synchronizing with other ones in the distance but may also bloom several times separately on a small scale. It may be a kind of an insurance system established to disperse the risk of failed sexual propagation when flowering once in a lifetime. The results reveal that the long-period monocarpy of the draft bamboo has been strengthened to optimize the sexual propagation to overcome the increased environmental instability caused by the expansion of distribution of tropical bamboos and bamboo species to the temperate regions.
This study was conducted to investigate petal pigmentation and the expression patterns of anthocyanin-related genes in bicolored roses 'Pinky Girl' treated with temporal heat stress (THS). Cyanin accumulation in petals was correlated with floral bud development and started rapidly as floral buds began to open, defined as the $4^{th}$ stage of floral bud development ($S_4$). This stage seems to be most susceptible to petal pigmentation. The total of cyanin pigmentation at blooming was significantly decreased (by 45.5%) with exposure to THS ($39/18^{\circ}C$ for three days at $S_4$) in comparison with control. Meanwhile, the expression of anthocyanin-related genes such as CHS, CHI, F3'H, DFR, ANS, 3GT, and 5GT was relatively promoted by THS. Only F3H was less expressed (by 26.7%) with THS treatment; thus, F3H could be a key gene for bicolor promotion in 'Pinky Girl' among anthocyanin-related genes. Overall, the expression pattern of the most anthocyanin-related genes did not match the trends of cyanin pigmentation in petals. These results suggest that floral pigmentation could be associated with other mechanisms related to anthocyanin biosynthesis such as post-translational effects and regulatory genes.

This is a qualitative study conducted to understand and explain the experience of nursing students' exploring historic sites of independence movement overseas. The study's participants were 24 nursing students in the first and second graders who participated in a program to explore the historic sites of independence movement overseas at a college in C County, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The data collection period was from December 23, 2017 to December 25, 2017. The data collection was carried out in an open self-reporting process, and the collected data were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method of Krippendorff[13]. Based on the analysis of the experience of nursing students' exploring historic sites of independence movement overseas 19 sub-theme, 10 themes, and 4 categories were derived. The four categories are "Our History Represented in the wake of the independence movement", "Footprint projected of an independent activist ", " Rage Boiling But Hope Remaining", "blooming patriotism through reflection". The results of this study provided an understanding of nursing students' experience in exploring the historical sites of independence movement and have shown that nursing students had the opportunity to recognize the history of independence movements, inspire patriotism and reflect on their attitude as nurses. In addition, institutional efforts and resources should be supported to address the lack of policies on the preservation of the historic sites for independence movements overseas, which are dependent on the private sector.
In order to clarify the contents of active principles in floral inhibition cultured Angelica gigas roots, the amounts of crude extract and the contents of decursin and decursinol angelate in the yearly roots were analyzed and compared with respect to the root age, root part and growth stage. The woody cell, weight and width of pith and cortex were also investigated at different growth stage to observe the developmental characteristics of lignification in the roots as bolting and flowering in normal cultured Angelica gigas. The amount of crude extracts did not differ with plant ages, whereas the contents of decursin and decursinol angelate were differed and the highest in 3 year old roots. The contents of decursin in 1, 2 and 3 year old roots were 3.71, 4.76 and 8.20% and those of decursinol angel ate were 2.84, 3.40 and 5.01%, respectively. The amount of crude extracts, and the contents of decursin and decursinol angelate were the highest in fine roots, followed by the lateral roots and the lowest in the primary roots. On the other hand, the amount of the constituents in the cortex were much higher than those in the pith of the root. The amounts of crude extract, and the contents of decursin and decursinol angelate showed the highest value at the vagetative stage and decreased with development to bolting and blooming stage. Woody cells were accumulated in the pith of the root as advancing growth stage, so that the weight and radius of the pith increased, whereas the relative weight and width of the cortex decreased slightly.
This study was carried out to clarify the changes in dry matter weight and physicochemical property of job's tears grain during ripening period. Four varieties of job's tears were seeded at April 20, May 10, and May 30, andgrains were harvested at every 7 days from heading to maturity, The whole seed weight of thick hull varieties, Kimje and Aewon, was higher than that of improved thin hull varieties, Suwon 3 and Suwon 6, from heading to maturity, However, the dehulled grain weight of thin hull variety were higher than that of thick hullvariety from 35 days after heading. The first heading spikelet showed lower 100-grain weight com-pared with the spikelets headed at full blooming stage among the same plant. The increased rate of de hulled grain weight during maturing period was higher in thin hull variety than thick hull one, later seeding date than early seeding, and intermediate headed spikelet than early head-ed one, respectively. As maturing proceeds the protein content of de hulled grain was decreased, alkali digestibility value(ADV) showed a rising trend, and little change was found in gel consistency of milled grain flour. And same trends were found in protein content, ADV and gel consistency as the seeding date was delayed. Among amylogram properties of job's tears flour the maximum, minimum, and final viscosity as well as breakdown were decreased, and set back was increased in later seeding plots
A study has been made on phenomena of fertilization, hair genesis, and development of such forma of cotton flower as Mok Po 5, Red Leaf, Paymaster, Acala 1517w. 1) The pollen occurs to germinat at 4 hrs after its pollination and reaches the base of style 10 hrs. later, when 18 hrs elapsed, it gets enter at micropyle passes through placenta. 2) There may remain only one synergid as another one is occupied by pollen tube when it enters micropyle. 3) The fertilization completed at 18-48 hrs. after pollination. It was observed that Mok Po5 is the fastest, somewhat slower in Red Leaf and the slowest is the case of Paymaster in its speed. 4) Wool hair is formed by development of daughter cell which is. due to epidermal cell division' it starts its way right before blooming. 5) Wool hair is the most in its number covering about 60-80 within one hour ofter pollination and finishes its forming within 4-6 hours. The number is more abunbant at basal portion of ovule and rather at outer surface than at inner one of it. 6) The average length of wool hair checked at different time limit is as follows. 2.7-8.3$^{\mu} m$ 1 hr after pollination. 43.3-263.7$^{\mu} m$ 24-48 hrs. after pollination. The growth speed both of Mok Po 5 and Red Leaf get nearly same value but Paymaster is somewhat slower in its speed.
