Effect of Drug Substances on the Microviscosity of Lipid Bilayer of Liposomal Membrane

  • The microviscosites of the lipid bilayers of liposomal membranes of phospholipids were measured by the intermolecular excimer, formation method employing pyrene as a fluorescence probe, and the effects of n-alkanols and other local anesthetics on the microviscosity were investigated. The results showed that the n-alkanols and the ohter local anesthetics effectively lowered the microviscosity of the lipid bilayer of the dipalmitoyl phosphatidycholine liposomal membrane in proportion to the concentration of the additives. Moreover, there was a fairly good correlation between the ocal anesthetic activities and the microviscosity-lowering activities of these drugs. This results suggests that the nerve blocking activity of local anesthetics might have some relation with their activity fluidizing the lipid bilayer of biomembrane.

Inhibiting Effect of Nicotinic Acid Hydrazide on Corrosion of Aluminum and Mild Steel in Acidic Medium

  • The corrosion behavior of aluminum and mild steel in hydrochloric acid medium was studied using a nicotinic acid hydrazide as inhibitor by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique and gravimetric methods. The effects of inhibitor concentration and temperature were investigated. The experimental results suggested, nicotinic acid hydrazide is a good corrosion inhibitor for both aluminum and mild steel in hydrochloric acid medium and the inhibition efficiency increased with increase in the inhibitor concentration. The polarization studies revealed that nicotinic acid hydrazide exhibits mixed type of inhibition. The inhibition was assumed to occur via adsorption of the inhibitor molecules on the aluminum and mild steel surface and inhibits corrosion by blocking the reaction sites on the surface of aluminum.

  • Medical imagies with high resolution are coded to be archived and communicated in MPACS. In this paper, we have studied on coding of Cardio-Angiography. Our coding technique is Subband-Vecter Quantization. This techniquec is irreversible coding method. This technique's advantages are removing blocking effect and edge degradation, adapting for drastic image change because of dye injection and fast decoding. We achieved good results fur Cardio-Angiography data, but the study on more sophiscated motion estimation techniques and VQ techniques must be performed.

  • Naringenin, major one of the citrus flavonoids, have been identified that exert antioxidative, anticancer effects. The present study investigated the effects of naringenin on tumor invasion and matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) activities. Naringenin inhibited cell invasion of HT-1080 fibrosarcoma cells in a dose-dependent manner. The activities of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were inhibited by naringenin as demonstrated by gelatin zymography assay. Furthermore, the amounts of MMP-2, MMP-9, and MT1-MMP mRNA were analyzed in the cells. MMP-2, MMP-9, and MT1-MMP mRNA expression were suppressed by naringenin with time and dose-dependent. These results demonstrate that anti-metastatic activities of naringenin resulted from blocking of invasion of the HT-1080 cells. Taken together, the results of this studies provide evidence that naringenin possess an anti-metastatic activity.

Influence of Intraventricular Bethanidine on the Renal Function of the Rabbit (가토의 신장 기능에 미치는 측뇌실내 Bethanidine의 영향)

  • Bethanidine was administered into the lateral ventricle of the rabbit brain for the investigation of the effect on the renal function in doses ranging from 0.1 to 1.0mg/kg. In a dose of 0.1 mg/kg, bethanidine did not exhibit significant changes on the renal function of the rabbit, on the other hand, in the doses of 0.3 and 1.0mg/kg bethanidine elicited the reduction of renal plasma flow and glomerular filtration rate with a marked antidiuresis, at the same time bethanidine produced the decrement of urinary sodium and potassium excretion. After intravenous pretreatment of phentolamine, intraventricular bethanidine in a dose of 0.3mg/kg did not produced the antidiuresis and the decrement of urinary sodium and potassium excretion, wherease renal plasma flow and glomerular filtration rate reduced as before of phentolamine pretreatment although the durations of their reduction were shortened. These observations suggest that bethanidine induces the antidiuresis through the centrally mediated mechanism which interposed other factors in addition to sympathetic stimulation affected by phentolamine, alpha adrenergic blocking agent.

Multi-resolution hierarchical motion estimation in the wavelet transform domain (웨이브렛 변환된 다해상도 영상을 이용한 계층적 움직임 추정)

  • In this paper, a new hierarchical motion estiamtion scheme using the wavelet transformed multi-resolution image layers is proposed. Compared with the full search motion estimation method, the existing hierarchical methods remarkably reduce the amount of the computation but their efficiencies are depreciated by the local minima problem. In order to solve the local minima problem, the multi-resolution image layers are composed using the wavelet transform and the number of layers participated in the motion estimation for a block is determined by considering of its low band energy and higher band energy on the first wavelet transformed layer. The ratio between higher band energy and low band energy of each block is evaluated and in the case of the blocks which include relatively large higher band energy, the motion estimation is carried out in the high resolution layer. Otherwise, all layers are used. The final motion vectors are obtained in the first wavelet transformed layer. So less bits for motion vectors are transmitted, and the decomposition of received image using inverse wavelet transform decreases the blocking effect.

  • 정보통신 기술이 급격히 발달함에 따라 영상처리 및 압축 기술에 대한 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 현재 정지 압축 영상 표준인 JPEG과 동영상 압축 표준인 MPEG에서는 통계적 특성에 기반한 DCT 방법을 이용하여 압축을 수행하고 있다. 최근에는 웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 영상신호 처리 및 압축에 관한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있는데, 이는 기존의 DCT 방법과는 달리 속도와 압축률이 뛰어나며 블록화 현상(Blocking Effect)이 발생하지 않기 때문이다. 또한 웨이브렛 자체가 함수이고 이러한 함수에 다른 스케일과 해상도를 적용하는것이므로, 영상을 확대하거나 축소하더라도 이미지에 손상을 주지 않고 복원할 수 있다. 스테레오 이미지는 사람의 시각에서 물체를 보는 것처럼, 카메라에서 같은 장면을 약간의 차이를 두어 찍은 것이다. 따라서 오른쪽과 왼쪽의 두 이미지로 나누어지게 되는데, 이 두 이미지 사이에서 공통 부분이 많다는 특징을 가지게 된다. 따라서 두 이미지의 공통 부분을 찾아 내고, 이를 이용하여 압축을 할 수 있다면 압축률을 높일 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 웨이브렛 변환을 이용하여 스테레오 이미지에서의 공통 부분을 찾고 영상을 효율 岵막\ulcorner 압축하는 방법에 대하여 연구한다.

  • JPEG은 정지 영상의 압축 표준으로 8$\times$8 블록을 기반으로 DCT 변환을 한 후 양자화 및 엔트로피 부호화 과정을 통해 압축이 이루어진다. DCT는 이미지를 공간 영역에서 주파수 영역으로 변환하는 기법으로 대체로 저주파 성분은 저주파 성분끼리, 고주파 성분은 고주파 성분끼리 모아준다. 이러한 형태는 필요 없는 성분들을 쉽게 제거할 수 있어 압축이 효율적으로 이루어지도록 한다. 블록 기반의 압축 기법을 적용할 때 흔히 나타나는 문제점은 블록 기반으로 인해 발생하는 블?킹 현상으로서 이는 양자화로 인한 정보의 손실에서 비롯되며 그 기본이 되는 8$\times$8 블록 단위로 나타난다. 본 연구세어서는 작은 블록 단위를 16$\times$16의 매크로블록으로 확대한 개념을 이용하여 매크로 블록 내의 수직 및 수평 방향으로 1:2단위로 샘플링한 4개의 8$\times$8블록 간의 블록킹 경계로 없애 주도록 하고자 한다. 또한 16$\times$16의 DCT 블록 대신 16$\times$16 블록내의 8$\times$8 블록들을 이용함으로써 표준 기법에서 이용되는 8$\times$8 단위의 양자화 테이블이나 RLE기법 등을 그대로 적용할 수 있다.

Effect of Soft Handoff Area on the Blocking Rate of DS-CDMA System (소프트 핸드오프 영역이 DS-CDMA 시스템의 블록킹 확률에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • DS-CDMA 이동통신 시스템에서 소프트 핸드오프는 간섭을 감소시켜, 역방향 링크 용량을 증대시키고 통화 절단율을 감소시켜 시스템 성능을 향상시킨다. 반면에 무선 채널 자원 측면에서는 공간 다이버시티를 위해 다수 개의 무선자원을 사용하기 때문에 시스템 성능을 저하시킬 수도 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 무선자원 활용 측면에서 DS-CDMA 이동통신 시스템의 소프트 핸드오프에 대한 성능을 분석하였다. 분석 결과에서 무선 채널 자원이 한정된 경우에 소프트 핸드오프 영역이 증가하면 소프트 핸드오프 빈도와 평균 채널 점유시간이 증가하여 채널 블록킹율을 상당하게 증가시키는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 핸드오프 영역이 증가되기 전과 동일한 블록킹율을 유지시키기 위해서는 증가되는 영역에 비례하여 추가적인 무선 채널 자원이 제공되어야 한다.

Influence of Debrisoquine on Renal Function of Dogs (Debrisoquine이 개의 신장기능에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the action of debrisoquine, a sympathetic blocking agent presently employed in treating hypertension, on renal function and to elucidate the mechanism of its action. Debrisoquine, given intravenously, elicited increased urine flow, osmolar and free water clearances, along with marked increases in excretion of both sodium and potassium. Glomerular filtration rate also increased, but renal plasma flow tended to decrease, so that the filtration fraction tended to increase. Rates of reabsorption of sodium and potassium in renal tubules were also significantly diminished. The diuresis induced by debrisoquine was completely blocked by treatment with phentolamine and reserpine, and also markedly inhibited by acute renal denervation. Debrisoquine, when injected directly into a renal artery, produced antidiuretic effect and a reduction in urinary excretion of sodium and potassium, along with diminished renal plasma flow and increased filtration fraction. The above observations indicate that debrisoquine, when given intravenously, induces diuresis in the dog as a result of both diminished tubular reabsorption of electrolytes and of renal hemodynamic changes, which seem to be related to its inhibitory action of catecholamine-release from the sympathetic nerve endings.
