Reliability and Validity of Angle of Trunk Rotation Measurement Using Smartphone and 3D Printing Technology in Scoliosis

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the method of measuring the angle of the trunk rotation using a smartphone with 3D smartphone holder compared to a scoliometer, which is a measuring tool used as a method for diagnosing scoliosis in scoliosis patients. Methods: Angle of trunk rotation was measured in 21 subjects diagnosed with scoliosis. scoliometer measurement method, a smartphone measurement method with a 3D smartphone holder, a smartphone blind measurement method with a 3D smartphone holder, a smartphone measurement method without a smartphone holder, a smartphone blind measurement method without a smartphone holder, and a total of five measurement methods were repeated three times for comparison and analysis. Results: The smartphone measurement method with a 3D smartphone holder has excellent intra-rater reliability of angle of trunk rotation (Rater A; ICC3, 2≥0.993, Rater B; ICC3, 2≥0.992). The smartphone blind measurement method with a 3D smartphone holder has excellent inter-rater reliability of angle of trunk rotation (ICC2, 2≥0.968). The scoliometer measurement method had the highest validity (r=0.976) with the smartphone measurement method with a 3D smartphone holder, and the blind measurement method without a smartphone holder had the lowest validity (r=0.886). Conclusion: These findings, the angle of trunk rotation measured by the smartphone measurement method with a 3D smartphone holder in scoliosis patients showed high reliability and validity compared to the scoliometer measurement method.

A Study on the Detection of Marine Debris in Collection Blind Spots using Drones and a Method for Matching Latitude and Longitude (드론을 활용한 수거사각지대 해양쓰레기 탐지 및 위경도 매칭 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Marine debris not only affects the survival of marine life, water pollution, and scenery but also has secondary effects on economic loss and human health. While research on underwater and surface debris is actively ongoing, solutions to marine debris in hard-to-reach blind spots are being developed slowly. To address this problem, we utilize drones to detect and track marine debris in blind spots such as tetrapods. The detected debris is then visualized by calculating its location coordinates using the drone's GPS, altitude, and heading values. The proposed method of using drones for detecting marine debris and matching it with longitude and latitude coordinates provides an effective solution to the problem of marine debris in blind spots.

  • This study examines consumer\` and manufacturers\` perceptions and preference on the bamboo industry and bamboo craft products made in Korea. Also, this study investigates the possibilities of modem bamboo blind production by applying various new materials, techniques, and design patterns. The results of the survey to consumers and bamboo product manufacturers were that ordinary Korean consumers evaluated negatively the quality of bamboo products, particularly the design of them and the manufactures themselves evaluated negatively the design of their products and eagerly desired to team new design techniques for their product improvements. The result of experimental study was that the combinations of fabric materials, natural dyeing, and design techniques in the development of bamboo blinds yielded modernized bamboo blind image that could be appealed by consumers. This study could be judged as a good example for the modem recreation of traditional art. This study proposes the product devolvement and commercialization of traditional culture through the collaborations between bamboo craft industry and Universities.

A Study on Improvement of Standard Criteria for Tactile Walking Surface Indicators (시각장애인 점자블록의 규격기준 개선방안 연구)

  • Purpose : The current tactile walking surface indicators have not been easily accessible to blind and vision-impaired people due to unexpected variation of walking environment and walking behavior of transportation poor. Moreover, those indicators frequently cause the inconvenience to transportation users' walking. Thus, this study aims to investigate the improvement of tactile walking surface indicators, by comparing and analyzing findings from the relevant research. Results from this study contribute to suggest the better standard criteria of tactile walking surface indicators for transportation users, especially blind and vision-impaired people, the handicapped, the child and the elderly and weak, providing the secure and convenient circumstance for walking. Method : This study presents the problems about the standard criteria of tactile walking surface indicators via the examination of finding from the past studies. For example, we examine all standard criteria, focusing on shapes, colors and qualities of materials used for Tactile Walking Surface Indicators. Then, the present study suggests the improvement of standard, which apply to the current walking environment practically and reasonably. Results : To improve the current condition of tactile walking surface indicators, the analysis on international and domestic standard criteria need to be conducted. Findings from these analyses helps to suggest the better criteria for the interval between projecting points of tactile walking surface indicators, effective perceived range of walking road, and the brightness contrast between tactile walking surface indicators and finishing materials. Implication : The suggested standard criteria of tactile walking surface indicators need to be tested by transportation users, and the practical instructions of establishing tactile walking surface indicators should also be developed.

  • Recently, in order to reduce traffic accident related fatalities, increasing number of studies are conducted regarding the vehicle safety enhancement devices. But very few studies about test procedures and requirements for vehicle safety systems are being carried out. Since BSD, as one of the most important safety features, is installed on a new vehicle, its performance test method has to be evaluated. Independent factors irrelevant to the device types including collision position, vehicle speed and closing speed are used to calculate test distance away from the current vehicle. Effect of roadway geometry as radius of curvature is introduced to propose possible misjudgement of following vehicle as adjacent one. The study results would be utilized to enhance the test procedure of BSD performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate and improve the indoor environment of the Atrium in summer. Thermal and daylighting performance was evaluated quantitatively by integrated simulation according to 4 types of shading device.(none shading, opaque shading, translucent shading, internal blind) As a result, with internal blind, the effects of isolating solar radiation and reducing indoor temperature are estimated to be decreased by about 90% and $3.2^{\circ}C$. In the outer shading device which is controled according to solar altitude, the effects of isolating solar radiation and reducing indoor temperature are revealed to be decreased by about 82% and $4.9^{\circ}C$.

  • Personal distance is one of the basic and important concepts in the field of Environmental Psychology in influencing personal space, visible or invisible territoriality and psychological carrying capacity of contemporary urban dwellers. This study aims to analyze the bench users' behaviour and personal distances in urban parks for the first time in Korea, one of the representative landscape spaces in urban areas. For these purposes, this study has adopted a blind observation and pictorial analysis for bench users in Yeouido Park in Seoul. The main results of this study show that the average interpersonal distance between female and male(intimate relationship) is 47.5cm, the distance between female and female is 53.2cm, and the distance between male and male is 70.3cm. These results mostly support the previous western study results, but the interpersonal space and territoriality of Koreans in urban parks may be smaller than that for western societies.

  • This study improves the design of electric pot and cup that can safely pour and drink hot beverages among daily necessities for the blind and the elderly. It looks at the electric pot and cup that people with visual impairments usually use through their use perspective and studies and improves the safety problems that arise when using them based on the principle of universal design. Through this prior study, we study designs that can be used and shared by all disabled and socially disadvantaged people together and improve the design of household goods to expand the scope of use of general products and create new social values. In addition, through this design improvement process, everyone pursues an equal and virtuous life together, forms a well-off inclusive society, and takes advantage of the current position of the disabled and value of life once again.

EVALUATION OF THE THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS OF CARBAMAZEPINE IN AUTISTIC CHILDREN (자폐증 아동에 있어서 Carbamazepine의 치료효과 평가)

  • A double bhad, placebo controlled study was performed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of Carbamazepine in autistic children, 23 boys with the diagnosis of Pervasive Developmental Disorders according to the DSM-IIIR were selected for study subjects, from Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Outpatient Department of Seoul National University Children Hospital during Oct. $1989{\sim}Nov.$ 1991. Subjects with histories of medical disease or psychiatric diseases were excluded and all study subjects had drug free periods more than 2 Months. Study subjects were randomly assigned to Cabamazepine treatment group(N=12) and placebo group(N=11). After the baseline observation periods, the double blind drug treatment and observation were performed for 12 weeks. Several scales (Ritvo-Freedman Real Life atring Scale. Behavior Checklist) were employed to evaluate the effects of drug treatment during baseline observation periods and the drug treatment periods by two raters blind to the study. Interrater reliability of each scales were .4875~.6613, the socrodemographic variables and the rating scores during baseline observation periods were not significantly different between two groups. Reduction of total scores in Autsm Behavior Checklist scale, i.e.. improvement of global autistic symptoms were noted significantly in Carbamazepine treatment group. Improvement in significant social maturations according to Vineland Social Mataration scale were observed in both patient groups after drug treetment periods.

Experimental and CFD Study on the Exhaust Efficiency of a Smoke Control Fan in Blind Entry Development Sites (맹갱도 굴진 작업공간내 방재팬의 화재연 배기효율에 관한 현장실험 및 CFD 연구)

  • The ventilation system plays a crucial role in underground mine safety. The main objective of the ventilation system is to supply sufficient air to dilute the contaminated air at working places and consequently provide tenable environment during the normal operation, while it also should be capable of controlling the fire propagation and facilitate rescue conditions in case of fire in mines. In this study, a smoke control fan was developed for the auxiliary ventilation as well as the fire smoke exhaust. It works as a free-standing auxiliary fan without tubing to dilute or exhaust the contaminated air from the working places. At the same time, it can be employed to extract the fire smoke. This paper aims to examine the smoke control efficiency of the fan when combined with the current ventilation system in mines. A series of the site experiments and numerical simulations were made to evaluate the fan performance in blind entry development sites. The tracer gas method with SF6 was applied to investigate the contaminant behavior at the study sites. The results of the site study at a large-opening limestone mine were compared with the CFD analysis results with respect to the airflow pattern and the gas concentration. This study shows that in blind development entry, the most polluted and risky place, the smoke fan can exhaust toxic gases or fire smoke effectively if it is properly combined with an additional common auxiliary fan. The venturi effect for smoke exhaust from the blind entry was also observed by the numerical analysis. The overall smoke control efficiency was found to be dependent on the fan location and operating method.
