  • Generally, in order to maintain high strength in concrete, it needs high cement content and low water-cement ratio.makes internal temperature rising after concrete placing inevitably, and happens temperature stress that makes initial cracks of concrete structure. Therefore, to control the thermal stress of high-strength concrete, we made 3 types of the fineness of ground granulated blast-furnace slag and 4 steps replacement. and then measured an amount of temperature rising and elapsed time of maximum temperature and strength of concrete. Also we considered the test results of heat evolution amount and heat evolution of cement paste made with 5 steps replacement by GGBF slag.As result of this study, in case of the 50% of replacement and the 6,000$\textrm{cm}^2$/g of fineness, we obtained satisfactory results that not only the controlled effect of temperature rising but strength at early ages.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the mechanical properties of high-flowable retaining wall material (RWM) incorporated with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (SG) and steel fiber (SF) based on a comparison with those of ordinary portland cement (OPC). To produce the specimens of RWM, some chemical agents such as superplasticizer (SP), air-entrained agent (AEA) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA) are added in the fresh RWM. The compressive, split tensile and flexural strength measurements were performed on the hardened RWM specimens. Additionally, surface electric resistivity and absorption tests according to ASTM standards were carried out at predetermined periods after water curing. It was found that the mechanical properties of slag cement concrete (SGC) RWM mix are better than those ordinary portland cement concrete (OPC) RWM mix. The effect of SF is remarkable to improve the mechanical properties of RWM mixes. It is noted that the usage of SG shows a beneficial effect to resist water penetration as well as long-term strength development of RWM mixes.

  • In the many kind of construct-material, the concrete which has the high-strength and a durability is sufficient to use with structure-material. but the color of concrete is very monotony, so generally concrete isn't used the out surface. although color concrete is a method of expressing surface, the combination of pigment and cement cause many physical problem such as efflorescence phenomenon, strength degradation and so on. In this study, It attempt to develop the black mortar using the industrial granulated blast furnace slag and to evaluate basic physical properties compare with general color concrete to solve the color concrete problem. The result of experiment showed that the flow dropped mixing of pigment. but flow increased in proportion to the mixing rate in occasion of mortar that mix granulated blast furnace sla and black mortar which was made granulated blast furnace slag has more visible black color than any mortar.

  • Geopolymers have many advantages over Portland cement, including energy efficiency, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, high strength at early age and improved thermal resistance. Alkali activated geopolymers made from waste materials such as fly ash or blast furnace slag are particularly advantageous because of their environmental sustainability and low cost. However, their durability and functionality remain subjects for further study. Geopolymer materials can be used in various applications such as fire and heat resistant fiber composites, sealants, concretes, ceramics, etc., depending on the chemical composition of the source materials and the activators. In this study, we investigated the thermal properties and microstructure of fly ash and blast furnace slag based geopolymers in order to develop eco-friendly construction materials with excellent energy efficiency, sound insulation properties and good heat resistance. With different curing times, specimens of various compositions were investigated in terms of compressive strength, X-ray diffraction, thermal property and microstructure. In addition, we investigated changes in X-ray diffraction and microstructure for geopolymers exposed to $1,000^{\circ}C$ heat.

  • In this study, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference Systems (ANFIS) prediction models for flexural strength of the cement mortars have been developed. For purpose of constructing this models, 12 different mixes with 144 specimens of the 2, 7, 28 and 90 days flexural strength experimental results of cement mortars containing pure Portland cement (PC), blast furnace slag (BFS), waste tire rubber powder (WTRP) and BFS+WTRP used in training and testing for ANN and ANFIS were gathered from the standard cement tests. The data used in the ANN and ANFIS models are arranged in a format of four input parameters that cover the Portland cement, BFS, WTRP and age of samples and an output parameter which is flexural strength of cement mortars. The ANN and ANFIS models have produced notable excellent outputs with higher coefficients of determination of $R^2$, RMS and MAPE. For the testing of dataset, the $R^2$, RMS and MAPE values for the ANN model were 0.9892, 0.1715 and 0.0212, respectively. Furthermore, the $R^2$, RMS and MAPE values for the ANFIS model were 0.9831, 0.1947 and 0.0270, respectively. As a result, in the models, the training and testing results indicated that experimental data can be estimated to a superior close extent by the ANN and ANFIS models.

  • Recently, the cement industry has been using various wastes as raw materials and fuel for cement as an eco-friendly business. However, most of these waste resources contain large amounts of chloride and alkali, which are concentrated in manufacturing facilities and adversely affect cement production products. Accordingly, in the cement production process, the chlorine ion contained in cement is managed by introducing the Chlorine Bypass System (CBS) into the manufacturing facility and releasing the dust. However, the processing volume of CBS-Dust has been limited due to the shortage of domestic processing companies, and the cost has also been raised, requiring measures to be taken in dealing with CBS-Dust. In this study, rheological properties of CBS-Dust incorporated paste are tested. With the increase of CBS-Dust, flow was decreased due to enhanced viscosity.

  • This study was conducted as the basic research for the replacement of Blast Furnace Slag, Red Mud, Silica Fume, etc., with cement as a solution to the problems arising from the global warming caused by the generation of $CO_2$, and conducted the experimental review to examine the feasibility of matrix having properties identical to those of cement by using the Blast Furnace slag, Red mud, Silica fume, and alkali-activator. For this, by using the the inorganic binder, such as Blast Furnace Slag, Red Mud, Silica Fume, etc., and NaOH, $Na_2SiO_3$ and others as the cement substitute material, the strength characteristic according to the mixture time variation was performed in the tentative experiment. Based on the preceding experiment, this study performed the experiment to analyze the strength properties of hardener through the curing by air-dry temperature, curing by temperature in water, coating curing, and Korean paper curing. For the water curing at $80^{\circ}C$, the compressive strength and flexural strength were found to be the most excellent at the age of the 28th day, and furthermore, it was found that the non-cement hardener could be made, which is considered to affect the production of eco-friendly concrete.

  • Recently, the development and field applications of Ternary Blended Cement(TBC), where blast furnace slag and fly ash are recycled in Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC) in order to obtain improvements in the durability and heat of hydration reduction performance in large scale civil structures, have been increasing. Also, there are continuing efforts by construction companies to reduce the construction time with the aim of reducing construction costs. Therefore, there is a need to improve the performance of TBC, which has a relatively slow early strength development. In order to improve the early strength of TBC mortar, the compressive strength, SO3 content, and SEM analysis was determined in this study on mortar with the fineness and content of blast furnace slag and anhydrite regulated. As a result, to secure the early strength of TBC mortar, using blast furnace slag with a fineness of approximately $4,200cm^2/g$, adding 3.5% anhydrite with a fineness of approximately $10,000cm^2/g$, and managing the $SO_3$ content to roughly 3.72% was found to provide the most outstanding early strength properties.

  • The necessity for ground reinforcement of structures has been increasing in South Korea because buildings have encountered constructional problems such as inclined structures and collapses caused by earthquakes or differential settlement of the foundations. With regard to a ground reinforcement method, an increasing number of high-strength concrete piles have been used based on their advantages, including a wide range of penetration depth and a high load-bearing capacity. However, problems such as the destruction of a pile head during on-site placement work can occur when the pile has insufficient strength. For this reason, the strength of such piles should be managed more thoroughly. Thus, this study analyzed the strength properties of high-strength concrete piles using blast furnace slag (BFS) powder as a cement replacement, which was generated as an industrial byproduct. The analysis results indicated that the compression strength of the concrete piles increased when 10% to 20% of the cement was replaced with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS). In addition, the compression strength of the concrete piles was calculated to be 80.6 MPa when 20% of the cement was replaced with GGBS, which was greater by 5% than that of an ordinary Portland cement (OPC) specimen.

  • Recently, ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) has been increasingly used as additive for concrete. Many researchers reported that concrete using GGBFS had a better resistance under severe environments, such as marine or sulfate-rich soils, than Portland type cement concrete. The aim, therefore, of this study is to evaluate on the effectiveness of concrete using GGBFS when the concrete exposes to sulfate-rich environment. The detailed items for experiments show 2 series consisted of sulfate immersion test with mortar and sulfate diffusion test with concrete. The sulfate immersion test was performed for 400 days and contained reduction of compressive strength, length change and XRD analysis. For sulfate diffusion test, sulfate ions diffusivity was calculated on tile consideration of electrochemical theory by the diffusion cell test. As the results of this study, it was found that the concrete using GGBFS as additive was superior to portland type cement concrete. Consequently, the use of concrete with GGBFS for recycling may expect the durable and economical benefits.
