Core Technology for Prominent COT (Color Filter On TFT Array) Structure

  • To get rid of cell assembly margin and have more process room of upper substrate, we developed truly COT (Color Filter On TFF Array) LCDs in that B/M (Black Matrix) as well as C/F (Color Filter) layer is located on TFT substrate. Novel B/M material is also developed for this COT structure. Difficulty in making contact hole through C/F layer was solved by making each C/F pattern isolated from others. We think this configuration will be core technology for prominent COT LCDs.

  • Si-carbon composites as anode materials for lithium rechargeable batteries were prepared simply by mixing Si nanoparticles with carbon black and/or graphite through a solution process. Si nanoparticles were well dispersed and deposited on the surface of the carbon in a tetrahydrofuran solution. Si-carbon composites showed more than 700 mAh/g of initial capacity under less than 20% loading of Si nanoparticle in the composites. While the electrode with only Si nanoparticles showed fast capacity fading during continuous cycling, Si-carbon composite electrodes showed higher capacities. The cycle performances of Si nanoparticles in composites containing graphite were improved due to the role of the graphite as a matrix.

  • In this paper, we have investigated water content of semiconductive shield materials for power cables, EEA(Ethylene Ethyl Acrylate) is used polymer matrix. And filler is used CNT(Carbon Nanotube) and CB(Carbon Black). EEA, CNT and CB is favor moisture. In case of EEA, it has polyolefin resin that strong polarity combination. To research water content, experimental method used KF(Karl Fischer). KF method is Electrochemical titration based on chemical reaction. As a result, specification by KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) is lower than 800ppm. CNT and CB ratio of 80 versus 20 is best specimen that had lowest moisture content. It seem likely to increase crosslinking rate, CNT between CB.

석탄폐석을 이용한 콘크리트의 특성 연구 (Evaluation for Characteristics of Coal-mine Waste Concrete)

  • This study deals with coal-mine waste (CMW) for use in concrete as a replacement of normal aggregates. The CMW was collected from Sabuk region. Ganwon-do. Fine and coarse aggregates from CMW were prepared by using a crusher and separating debris with #4 sieve. CMW aggregates showed good physical and mechanical properties with having specific gravity over 2.65, absorption less than 1%, and abrasion ratio below 20%. However, particle shape of CMW was poor because of non-isotropic nature of matrix which cause particles to be long or flat. Since irregular particles caused a poor workability, to make workability better, a 1/4 of coarse aggregate was replaced with normal aggregate together with a superplasticizer. Compressive strength and other mechanical properties of CMW concrete were very good. Color of the concrete was darker than normal concrete due to black color of CMW. In conclusion, characteristics of CMW concrete was acceptable for use as a structural concrete material.

  • We were evaluated from organic insulator of low dielectric constants, This organic insulator material is not only conservate TFT chanel but also used to insulator material to data line and pixel ITO electrod. This organic insulator material is possessed high platness and we can coat by Spin-On-Glass type. And we can make high aperature device because minimized black matrix width from coupling cap to data line and pixel ITO electrod, This evaluation with acryl over coat and PFCB(perflorecyclobutine) and we got good results.

대전입자형 디스플레이의 제조 및 어드레싱 방법 (Fabrication and Addressing Method of Charged Particle Type Display)

  • The charged particle type display is a kind of electronic paper showing information images using positive and negative charged particles ($<10{\mu}m$). In this work we used yellow(-) and black(+) particles which are respectively addressed to the cells of a upper and a rear substrate by using electric field. Our independent addressing method has strong points compared to the mixed particle putting method. The packaging with two orthogonal substrates and the aging process is followed by addressing process. The panel is sequentially driven by matrix method for each 4-unit cells. Layers of particles are controlled by barrier ribs and must be addressed to minimum 2 layers.

  • For finding the optimal strategy in Blackout game which was introduced in the homepage of popular movie "Beautiful mind", we have developed and generalized a mathematical proof and an algorithm with a couple of softwares. It did require only the concept of basis and knowledge of basic linear algebra. Mathematical modeling and analysis were given for the square matrix case in(Lee,2004) and we now generalize it to a generalized $m{\times}n$ Blackout game. New proof and algorithm will be given with a visualization.

  • Reflective paper-like display (PLD) using two types of particles having different electric polarity has been developed. A positive-charged particle has $TiO_2$, polymer and charge control agent (CCA), while a negative-charged particle consists of carbon black, polymer and CCA. We achieved fast response time (${\sim}0.2$ msec) and passive matrix driving addressing. These methods can easily be adapted to complete a large area display and flexible display.

  • Effect of contamination of liquid crystal on the electrical behavior of liquid crystal display (LCD) by spilled components from color filter layer was investigated. It is noted that the level of contamination was different following the kind of liquid crystal and organic layers. Transmittance curve of LCD cell was shifted by spilled components of color filter and BM materials. C-V curve also showed different behavior following color filter type. The results obtained show the image sticking of LCD can be varied by pairing liquid crystal with color filter materials.

A new contrast ratio measurement method using image patterns

  • The contrast ratio is one of the most important performance parameters for display devices. The general method of measuring the contrast ratio is to determine the ratio of the full-screen white pattern to the full-screen black pattern, according to the Video Electronics Standards Association standard. Real TV images seldom have these images, however, and the conventional method does not reflect the true performance of the display in actual use. In this paper, a new contrast ratio measurement method that uses image patterns is proposed, to demonstrate that active matrix organic light-emitting diode TVs have a higher contrast than LED (LCD) TVs.
