  • A batch Process has a multi-way data structure that consists of batch-time-variable axis, so the statistical modeling of a batch process is a difficult and challenging issue to the process engineers. In this study, We applied a statistical process control technique to the general batch process data, and implemented a fault-detection and Statistical process control system that was able to detect, identify and diagnose the fault. Semiconductor etch process and semi-batch styrene-butadiene rubber process data are used to case study. Before the modeling, we pre-processed the data using the multi-way unfolding technique to decompose the data structure. Multivariate regression techniques like support vector regression and partial least squares were used to identify the relation between the process variables and process condition. Finally, we constructed the root mean squared error chart and variable contribution chart to diagnose the faults.

  • Autophagy, which is a process of self eating, has gained interest in the past decade due to its both beneficial and controversial roles in various biological phenomena. The discovery of autophagy genes (ATG) in yeast has led to focused research designed to elucidate the mechanism and regulation of this process. The role of autophagy in a variety of biological phenomena, including human disease, is still the subject of debate. However, recent findings suggest that autophagy is a highly regulated process with both beneficial and negative effects. Indeed, studies conducted using various model organisms have demonstrated that increased autophagy leads to an extended lifespan. Despite these findings, it is still unknown if all pathways leading to extended lifespan converge at the process of autophagy or not. Here, an overview of modern developments related to the process of autophagy, its regulation and the molecular machinery involved is presented. In addition, this review focuses on one of the beneficial aspects of autophagy, its role in lifespan regulation.

  • Concentrations of substrates, glucose, and ammionia in biological processes have been on-line monitored by using glucose-flow injection (FIA) and ammonia-FIA systems. Based on the on-line monitored data the concentrations of substrates have been controlled by an on-off controller, a PID controller, and a neural network (NN) based controller. A simulation program has been developed to test the control quality of each controller and to estimate the control parameters. The on-off controller often produced high oscillations at the set point due to its low robustness. The control quality of a PID controller could have been improved by a high analysis frequency and by a short residence time of sample in a FIA system. A NN-based controller with 3 layers has been developed, and a 3(input)-2(hidden)-1(output) network structure has been found to be optimal for the NN-based controller. The performance of the three controllers has been tested in a simulated process as well as in a cultivation process of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and the performance has also been compared to simulation results. The NN-based controller with the 3-2-1 network structure was robust and stable against some disturbances, such as a sudden injection of distilled water into a biological process.

  • Gonadogenesis is a complicated process which involves multi-gene interactions. A rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) gene spermatogenesis associated 4 (SPATA4) was cloned and characterized from adult rainbow trout testis. The cDNA sequence of rainbow trout SPATA4 contains an open reading frame of 1, 081 nucleatides encoding a putative protein of 259 amino acids. The putative protein from rainbow trout shares a 76.8% homology with zebrafish SPATA4. No trans-membrane regions or signal peptide were detected using bioinformatics methods. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that rainbow trout SPATA4 was a nuclear protein with highest possibility (39.1%). Multi-tissue reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) was performed to examine the distribution of rainbow trout SPATA4 in eleven organs of adult rainbow trout. The result demonstrated that this gene express specifically in testis and slight amount of expression was detected in ovary. Further analysis of SPATA4 characterization and function in rainbow trout may provide insight into the understanding of gonadogenesis process.

  • In this study, the enzymatic process for biodiesel production was optimized using a mixture of immobilized Rhizopus oryzae and Candida rugosa lipases. The optimal temperature and agitation speed for biodiesel production were $45^{\circ}C$ and 300 rpm, respectively. The optimal ratio of R. oryzae and C. rugosa lipases in the mixture was 3:1 (w:w). When 3 mmol of methanol was the initial reaction medium and 3 mmol of methanol was added every 1.5 h during biodiesel production, biodiesel conversion was over 98% at 4 h. In addition, when the immobilized lipase mixture was reused, biodiesel conversion exceeded 80% after 5 reuses.

  • Fibrosis is a pathological condition that is characterized by an abnormal buildup of extracellular matrix (ECM) components, such as collagen, in tissues. This condition affects various organs of the body, including the liver and kidney. Early diagnosis and treatment of fibrosis are crucial, as it is a progressive and irreversible process in both organs. While there are certain similarities in the fibrosis process between the liver and kidney, there are also significant differences that must be identified to determine molecular diagnostic markers and potential therapeutic targets. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), a class of RNA molecules that do not code for proteins, are increasingly recognized as playing significant roles in gene expression regulation. Emerging evidence suggests that specific lncRNAs are involved in fibrosis development and progression by modulating signaling pathways, such as the TGF-β/Smad pathway and the β-catenin pathway. Thus, identifying the precise lncRNAs involved in fibrosis could lead to novel therapeutic approaches for fibrotic diseases. In this review, we summarize lncRNAs related to fibrosis in the liver and kidney, and propose their potential as therapeutic targets based on their functions.

  • In this study, the sludge formation in the wastewater drain from the advanced packaging process mechanisms are revealed as well as the key factors, materials, and sludge prevention methods using surfactant. Compared with that of conventional packaging process, advanced packaging process employ similar process to the semiconductor fabrication process, and thus many processes may generate wastewater. In specific, a large amount of wastewater may generate during the carrier wafer bonding, photo, development, and carrier wafer debonding processes. In order to identify the key factors for the formation of sludge during the advanced packaging process, six types of chemicals including bonding glue, HMDS, photoresist (PR), PR developer, debonding cleaner, and water are utilized and mixing evaluation is assessed. As a result, it is confirmed that the black solid sludge is formed, which is originated by the sludge seed formation by hydrolysis/dehydration reaction of HMDS and sludge growth via hydrophobic-hydrophobic binding with sludge seed and PR. For the sludge prevention investigation, three surfactants of CTAB, PEG, and shampoo are mixed with the key materials of sludge, and it is confirmed that the sludge formations are successfully suppressed. The underlying mechanism behind the sludge formation is that the carbon tails of the surfactant bind to PR with hydrophobic-hydrophobic interaction and inhibit the reaction with HMDS-based slurry seeds to prevent the sludge formation. In this regard, it is expected that various problems like clogging in drains and pipes during the advanced packaging process may effectively solve by the injection of surfactants into the drains.

  • Space separation method that use independent reactor for nitrification and other reactor for denitrification has been commonly used for biological nitrogen removal process like $A^2O$ process. However, this method needs large space and complicate pipelines and time separation method such as SBR process have a difficulty in continuous treatment. Thus biological nitrogen removal process which is capable of continuous treatment, easy opeation and space saving is urgently required. In this research, submerged moving media was used for a biofilm process and suspended sludge was used for biological nitrogen removal at the same time. In particular DO environment by controlling air flow rate was investigated for simultaneous nitrification/denitrification. Total nitrogen removal in aeration rate more than $67L/min{\cdot}m^3$ showed 51~53% and rose to 65%, 70% and 78% in $50L/min{\cdot}m^3$, $58L/min{\cdot}m^3$ and $25L/min{\cdot}m^3$ respectively. Total phosphorus removal was very low about 10~20% more than $67L/min{\cdot}m^3$ aeration rates. But total phosphorus removal roses when reduces aeration rate by $58L/min{\cdot}m^3$ low and it showed total phosphorus removal of 72% in aeration rate $25L/min{\cdot}m^3$.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze secondary school student's brain activity on assimilation, conflict, and accommodation processes of self-regulation. The self-regulation task was presented a biological phylogenetic task, and the brain activity was measured and analyzed with fNIRS. As a result, a significant activation was found in the left DLPFC, OFC, and FP regions in the conflict process compared to the assimilation process, and a significant activation was found in DLPFC and VLPFC in the accommodation process. As the age increase, the DLPFC also increases in the conflict process and VLPFC increases in the assimilation process. In addition, comparing conflict and accommodation process, the 7th grade students show a significant brain activity in the right VLPFC, the 9th grade students show significant brain activity in the left FP and DLPFC areas in the accommodation process. However, the 11th grade students did not show any significant brain activity at this process. These results presumably show that the neurological research method could be applied to educational research in cognitive activity and classroom instructional situation.

  • The number of processes in the manufacture of semiconductors, displays and solar cells is increasing. And as the processes is performed, multiple layers of films and various patterns are formed on the wafer. At this time, substrate warpage occurs due to the difference in stress between each film and pattern formed on the wafer. the substrate warping phenomenon occurs due to the difference in stress between each film and pattern formed on the wafer. We developed a new warpage measurement method to measure wafer warpage during real-time processing. We performed an experiment to measure the presence and degree of warpage of the substrate in real time during the process by adding only measurement equipment for applying additional electrical signals to the existing ESC and detecting the change of the additional electric signal. The additional electrical measurement signal applied at this time is very small compared to the direct current (DC) power applied to the electrostatic chuck whit a frequency that is not generally used in the process can be selectively used. It was confirmed that the measurement of substrate warpage can be easily separated from other power sources without affecting.
