FESD II: A Revised Functional Element SNP Database of Human Ethnicities

  • The Functional Element SNPs Database (FESD) categorizes functional elements in human genic regions and provides a set of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located within each area. Users may select a set of SNPs in specific functional elements with haplotype information and obtain flanking sequences for genotyping. Our previous version of FESD has been improved in several ways. We regenerated all the data in FESD II from recently updated source data such as HapMap, UCSC GoldenPath, dbSNP, OMIM, and $TRANSFAC^{(R)}$. Users can obtain information about tagSNPs and simulate LD blocks for each gene from four ethnicities in the HapMap project on the fly. FESD II employs a Java/JSP web interface for better platform portability and higher speed than PHP in the previous version. As a result, FESD II provides its users with more powerful information about functional element SNPs of human ethnicities.

  • 반폐쇄해역에서는 해수교환이 어렵고 육상에서 유입부하와 적조 등의 영향을 강하게 받기 때문에 항상 수질과 저질이 악화되기 쉬운 환경에 처해 있어서 이의 개선을 위한 일환으로 해양식물(잘피)의 서식환경을 복원하여 해양정화에 기여하기 위한 친환경적 접근이 필요하다. 다양한 해상환경조건하에서 잘피의 서식은 변화므로 특히, 파랑의 극한 외력여건에 견디는 친환경 잘피 지지구조물 기술개발이 우선되어야 한다. 본 연구는 잘피장 조성의 기반기술로 해양식생 지지용 바이오 블록을 개발하고 특히, 관광지 및 해양클러스터 단지로 대외적으로 알려져 있는 영도해역에서 영도구가 야심차게 준비해오고 있는 해상낚시터 인근해역에 적용할 수 있는 바이오 블록의 현장시범거치를 통해 잘피 등 해양식생을 유도하기 기반을 마련하기 위한 기초연구로 대상구역에서의 파랑해석과 식생 조성 후에 파랑의 반응특성을 수치모델을 통해 분석하고자 하였다. 계산 결과는 대상지역에 적용할 사면 피복재로 바이오 블록의 규격을 결정하는데 반영될 것이며 후속 연구에서 실제블록의 제작과 현장거치를 수행하고자 한다.

Chaotic Circuit with Voltage Controllability for Secure Communication Applications (암호통신 응용을 위한 전압제어형 카오스 신호 발생회로)

  • This paper presents a chaotic circuit with voltage controllability for secure communication applications. The proposed circuit which has two control voltages consists of the nonlinear function block(NFB) with three MOS transistors, one source follower and non-overlapping two-phase clock generator for sample and hold. By SPICE simulation, chaotic dynamics such as time waveform, frequency analysis and bifurcations were analyzed. SPICE results showed that proposed circuit can make various chaotic signals by control voltage.

Firing Offset Adjustment of Bio-Inspired DESYNC-TDMA to Improve Slot Utilization Performances in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • The wireless sensor network (WSN) is a key technology to support the Internet of things (IoT) paradigm. The efficiency of the MAC protocol in WSN is very important to take scalability with restricted wireless resources. The DESYNC-TDMA has an advantage of simple distributed slot allocation inspired by nature, but there is a critical disadvantage of split slots by firing message. The basic split slot model has less efficiency for continuous packet transmitting because of wasting of the slots less than the packet size. In this paper, we propose a firing offset adjustment scheme to improve the efficiency of slot utilizations, which can manage the slot assigned to each node as a single large block, called the single slot model. The performance analysis models for both the existing and the proposed schemes are also derived. Experimental results show that the proposed method provide better efficiency of slot utilization than the existing schemes without any loss of the nature of the desynchronization.

  • The analysis of variance for randomized block design or two way classification data is well known. In this paper, particularly, we considered two stage nested design in which the levels of one factor is not identical for different levels of another factor. We investigate the structural properties of two stage nested design and the properties of error sum of squares for random effect model. For the application of two way nested design, we consider two-period crossover design which is used commonly for the equivalence test to bio-similar product. The confidence interval estimation of the difference of two population means in the crossover design is discussed based on statistical package SPSS.

  • A motor group control system is developed for continuous manufacturing processes such as rolling process or electrolytic tinning process. The control system consists of four subsystems ; Multi-Function Controller (MFC), Flexible Motor Drive (FMD), Bulky Input/Output (BIO), Graphic Console and Simulator (GCS). A graphic control language, called Function Block Language, is used to configure the control algorithms for each subsystem. All subsystem are linked together thru a field bus to communicate data with each other.

Evaluation of Bacteriophage Supplementation on Growth Performance, Blood Characteristics, Relative Organ Weight, Breast Muscle Characteristics and Excreta Microbial Shedding in Broilers

  • A total of 720 1-d-old male broilers (Arbor Acres) with the initial BW = $45{\pm}2$ g were used in a 32-d experiment. Birds were randomly allotted into 1 of 4 treatments according to a completely random block design. Dietary treatments included: i) CON (basal diet), ii) ANT (CON+0.5 g antibiotics/kg feed (bacitracin methylene disalicylate)), iii) BP1 (CON+0.25 bacteriophage/kg feed), and iv) BP2 (CON+0.5 g bacteriophage/kg feed). The BWG and FI were not affected by dietary treatments throughout the whole experiment, whereas BP2 treatment reduced (p<0.05) the feed conversion ratio compared with the CON treatment during 0 to 14 d. The birds fed bacteriophages at the level of 0.25 g/kg increased (p<0.05) the relative liver weight. The inclusion of antibiotic and bacteriophage significantly reduced (p<0.05) the Escherichia coli and Salmonella concentration in the excreta compared with the NC group. Broilers fed the BP2 treatment had higher (p<0.05) lactobacillus counts compared with those fed NC and PC treatments. In conclusion, dietary supplementation of 0.5 g/kg bacteriophages increased feed efficiency and liver weight without effects on the breast muscle properties; also pathogens were inhibited by addition of bacteriophages.

Screening of the Antigen Epitopes of Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor by Phage Display

  • In order to investigate the epitope of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and its immunogenicity, the epitopes of bFGF were screened from the phage display library with monoclonal antibody GF22, which can neutralize the bio-activity of bFGF. By three rounds of screening, the positive phage clones with bFGF epitopes were selected, which can effectively block the bFGF to bind with GF22. Sequence analysis showed that the epitopes shared a highly conservative sequence (Leu-Pro-Pro/Leu-Gly-His-Phe/Ile-Lys). The sequence of PPGHFK was located at 22-27 of the bFGF. The specific immuno-response of mouse could be highly induced by phage clones with the epitopes. And the anti-bFGF activity induced by LPGHFK was 3 times higher than the original sequence, which showed that the mimetic peptide LPLGHIK might be used as a tumor vaccine in the prevention and treatment of tumor.

  • The success of implants essentially depends on a sufficient volume of healthy bone at the recipient site during implant placement. In patients who have the severe alveolar bone resorption or pneumatized maxillary sinus, it should be performed that bone regeneration procedure before implant placement. Development of barrier membrane makes it possible that predictable result of alveolar bone reconstruction. Many kind of materials used for barrier membrane technique are introduced, non-absorbable or absorbable membranes. But, when operation site was ruptured with membrane exposure, bacterias can be grow up at the bone graft site. Then morphology and migration of fibroblast will be changed. It works as a negative factor on healing process of bone graft site. In oral and maxillofacial department of Chonbuk national university dental hospital, we use variable suture technique like as subgingival suture, vertical mattress suture, simple interrupted suture, if need, tenting suture after GBR or block bone graft. Within these suture technique, wound healing was excellent without complication, so now we take a report of suture technique in reconstruction of alveolar bone surgery.

  • The stitching method for the synthesis of $Fr\acute{e}chet$-type dendrimers was elaborated using click chemistry between an alkyne and an azide. The core building block, 4,4'-(3,5-bis(azidopropyloxy)benzyloxy)bisphenyl, was designed to serve as the azide functionalities for dendrimer growth via click reactions with the alkyne-dendrons. The synthetic strategy involved an 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction between an azide and an alkyne-functionalized $Fr\acute{e}chet$-type dendrons in the presence of Cu(I) species which is known as the best example of click chemistry.
