  • The UPnP is middleware architecture that supports dynamic distributed computing environment. It has many good features for possible use as middleware in robot system integration. There is a need for bulky binary data transmission between distributed robot S/W components. Since the UPnP utilizes SOAP protocol for message transmission, however, it is not efficient to send bulky binary data. In order to overcome this weak point, this paper proposes UPnP-MTOM, MTOM (Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism) implementation over UPnP, as an efficient way for bulky binary data transmission with UPnP messages. This paper presents our implementation method and experimental results of the UPnP-MTOM implementation.

  • In this paper, we propose a data-driven procedure to segment a binary sequence as an alternative to the popular hidden Markov model (HMM) based procedure. Unlike the HMM, our procedure does not make any distributional or model assumption to the data. To segment the sequence, we suggest to minimize the least square distance from the observations under total variation regularization to the solution, and develop a polynomial time algorithm for it. Finally, we illustrate the algorithm using a toy example and apply it to the Gemini boat race data between Oxford and Cambridge University. Further, we numerically compare the performance of our procedure to the HMM based segmentation through these examples.

  • In this paper, we study Bayesian estimation for the finite population proportion in binary data under selection bias. We use a Bayesian nonignorable selection model to accommodate the selection mechanism. We compare four possible estimators of the finite population proportions based on data analysis as well as Monte Carlo simulation. It turns out that nonignorable selection model might be useful for weekly biased samples.

  • Microcontrollers (MCUs) for endpoint smart sensor devices of internet-of-thing (IoT) are being implemented as system-on-chip (SoC) with on-chip instruction flash memory, in which user firmware is embedded. MCUs directly fetch binary code-based instructions through bit-line sense amplifier (S/A) integrated with on-chip flash memory. The S/A compares bit cell current with reference current to identify which data are programmed. The S/A in reading '0' (erased) cell data consumes a large sink current, which is greater than off-current for '1' (programmed) cell data. The main motivation of our approach is to reduce the number of accesses of erased cells by binary code level transformation. This paper proposes a built-in write/read path architecture using binary code inversion method based on hot-spot region detection of instruction code access to reduce sensing current in S/A. From the profiling result of instruction access patterns, hot-spot region of an original compiled binary code is conditionally inverted with the proposed bit-inversion techniques. The de-inversion hardware only consumes small logic current instead of analog sink current in S/A and it is integrated with the conventional S/A to restore original binary instructions. The proposed techniques are applied to the fully-custom designed MCU with ARM Cortex-M0$^{TM}$ using 0.18um Magnachip Flash-embedded CMOS process and the benefits in terms of power consumption reduction are evaluated for Dhrystone$^{TM}$ benchmark. The profiling environment of instruction code executions is implemented by extending commercial ARM KEIL$^{TM}$ MDK (MCU Development Kit) with our custom-designed access analyzer.

  • This paper proposes RCBT(Reduced Compact Binary trie) to correct faults of CBT (Compact Binary trie). First, in the case of CBT, a compact structure was tried for the first time, but as the amount of data was increasing, that of inputted data gained and much difficulty was experienced in insertion due to the dummy nodes used in balancing trees. On the other hand, if the HCBT realized hierarchically, given certain depth to prevent the map from increasing onthe right, reached the depth, the method for making new trees and connecting to them was used. Eventually, fast progress could be made in the inputting and searching speed, but this had a disadvantage of the storage space becoming bigger because of the use of dummy nods like CBT and of many tree links. In the case of RCBT in this thesis, a capacity is increased by about 60% by completely cutting down dummy nods.

  • We propose a method to add phase-modulation to binary amplitude data pages using a twisted-nematic liquid crystal display as a dynamic phase mask. For this, the phase modulation characteristics of the display were examined both theoretically and experimentally, and an unexpected abnormal phenomenon was found experimentally in which the modulation property changed as the incident beam intensity increased. To investigate the characteristics of holographically storing the binary data images, eight pages of holograms were stored at one spot of in un-thick Dupont's photopolymer with angle multiplexing. When phase-modulation-added pages were stored at the Fourier plane, the uniformity of the signal beam at the plane was improved, and thus more holograms can be recorded with our method, compared with the conventional case of using only binary amplitude modulation under the same condition.

  • When we apply binary classification to multi-class classification for text categorization, we use the One-Against-All method generally, However, this One-Against-All method has a problem. That is, documents of a negative set are not labeled by human. Thus, they can include many noisy documents in the training data. In this paper, we propose that the Sliding Window technique and the EM algorithm are applied to binary text classification for solving this problem. We here improve binary text classification through extracting noise documents from the training data by the Sliding Window technique and re-assigning categories of these documents using the EM algorithm.

  • Various imbalanced binary classification problems exist such as fraud detection in banking operations, detecting spam mail and predicting defective products. Several sampling methods such as over sampling, under sampling, SMOTE have been developed to overcome the poor prediction performance of binary classifiers when the proportion of one group is dominant. In order to overcome this problem, several sampling methods such as over-sampling, under-sampling, SMOTE have been developed. In this study, we investigate prediction performance of logistic regression, Lasso, random forest, boosting and support vector machine in combination with the sampling methods for binary imbalanced data. Four real data sets are analyzed to see if there is a substantial improvement in prediction performance. We also emphasize some precautions when the sampling methods are implemented.

  • Binary logistic regression analysis is a statistical technique that explains binary response variable by quantitative or qualitative explanatory variables. In the binary logistic regression model, the probability that the response variable equals, say 1, one of the binary values is to be explained as a transformation of linear combination of explanatory variables. This is one of big barriers that non-statisticians have to overcome in order to understand the model. In this study, an educational tool is developed that explains the need of the binary logistic regression analysis using Excel VBA. More precisely, this tool explains the problems related to modeling the probability of the response variable equal to 1 as a linear combination of explanatory variables and then shows how these problems can be solved through some transformations of the linear combination.

  • T-DMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system, is based on the Eureka-147 standard, provides various multimedia data services. However T-DMB system needs upgrades for more various services and better services. Therefore, we proposed advanced T-DMB system using unequal error protection system and hierarchical modulation in this paper while maintaing backward compatibility. And we simulated various bit split methods and double binary turbo code of DVB-RCS standard as method of LP data stream for additional service of advanced T-DMB. As the simulation results, double binary turbo code of proposed advanced T-DMB system have each coding gain of over 2 dB compared to conventional T-DMB.
